I dont like the "Rite of passage" mentality because it cuts down on talent. Its not unique to Germany but seems ridiculous to me for companies complaining about the shortage of workers but unwilling to pay more for acquiring talent.

Actually there is no labor shortage in Germany. They dont have enough job and most dont get candidate due to low salary offering
