It is true that beans fix nitrogen in their root, but they use that nitrogen when they start fruiting. There are many videos that talk about using beans to fix nitrogen, but unless you use them as a cover crop and terminate them before they start fruiting, there will be very little available nitrogen left.

Oh thank you for clearing that up. I guess I have to pivot and do something else now...hmmm

Cheers from North Texas fellow homesteading permaculturists. Thanks for the notes on ammendments. Gonna try the succession legume planting advice and BT as my beds are suffering at a ph of 8. Managed to drop to 7.5 - 7 in a few days with kitchen scraps and chop and drop but still the constant rain this 2024 has been washing the acidity out and drowning sonme plants.

Cheers! Where about in our part of Texas are you? We are in Lamar county & this rain is just a HUGE challenge on all fronts right now!

You reminded me to test our soil here by San Antonio before I start getting seeds in the ground.

I am glad I did. Have you ever heard of Redmond Soil Test Kit?
@AdamLProductions7 ай бұрын
@@TheNakidGardeners No, I had no idea you can do testing via mail until I saw your vid, but all things considered I guess I'm not too surprised.

Lots of good information! Thanks! I'm from Dallas... grew up there. Decided 23 years ago when it was time for my son to start school (definitely didn't want him going to Dallas schools) Decided to move out to a rural area NE of Dallas. There was nothing but cornfields and cattle out here until 2 years ago. Now they are packin em and stackin em. I hate it! 😢

Hey neighbor. We moved from the Dallas area as well to the more rural area in the Northeast Texas now for 3 years.

You should add blood meal, it’s very high in nitrogen and is organic. You said you use bone meal that could explain the high phosphorus and calcium
@TheNakidGardeners7 ай бұрын
True but I didn't use it a lot. I need to check the Kellogg's mix that we use more closely.
