@@wackyclock shouldn't, but do, specially if you want to get a masters down the road, or you want to break into an industry or company that cares about grades. Admission officers and job recruiters alike love to play down the importance of grades, but at the end of the day they end up asking for "minimum GPA" and transcripts as part of their recruitment process. Students who do well in school, Gohar being one of them I assume, find it easy to play down the importance of GPA because *they* got good grades already, but the statistics speak for themselves.

@Brassard1985
@Brassard1985 2 жыл бұрын
@@PhantomVirus It is meaningless, but that does not mean that it does not matter in the college application process. It is a very important part of the application, and it is used heavily to determine scholarship allocation. However, it is meaningless in the sense that it is not standardized at all. For instance, a 4.0 GPA from an International Baccalaureate (IB) high school is not the same as a 4.0 GPA from a relatively mediocre public high school. However, for all practical purposes, they are treated the same in consideration for admission and scholarships. Also, it is honestly not very difficult to maintain high grades in most American public high schools. Plus, grade inflation is rampant in high school. For instance, AP courses typically more quality points than non-AP courses, and exams in AP courses are typically scaled heavily.

He does ok in school, but he can spend hours talking about the science of cooking and how the mongols were so successful. The thing with school is that when a student is doing bad, it doesn’t mean the student is dumb, most of the time it’s because school is simply not interesting. Math for example. It’s one of the hardest subjects and a lot of people are near asleep due to boredom. Schools don’t put enough effort in trying to make subjects interesting, that’s the problem

I had an ok GPA (maybe high 3.8x) and a pretty bad ACT (26) and I got into Michigan by bs’ing the admissions essay. Once you learn what your audience wants to read (teacher in most cases, but admissions person in this case) it becomes extremely easy to say exactly the kind of things they want to hear. I’m a C Average student. I got a 1440 on the PSAT in 8th grade (currently 10th) and this year I aced it. But here’s the thing: I’m a C average student. Why? Well, I’m in one of the most competitive schools in the country. The fact that I’m taking 4 APs doesn’t help with that either. GPA does matter, but it isn’t a perfect system.

Huh? This video just says that GPA scores vary across different schools which is obvious. Even though not all gpas will be weighted or measured the same doesn’t mean they don’t matter lmao.

For anyone reading that has a bad gpa here’s some advice your HS gpa matters but if you did bad like I did you’re not nearly out of luck. I graduated with like a 2.4 pretty fucking horrible. All you have to do is go to CC and this time give it your all and get out with your associates and a high gpa. Then you can just transfer to a University or wherever and on top of that you’ll spend less in total since you went to CC. Community College is underrated.

I heard a lot of colleges will instead look at class rank but for some reason my senior class is wicked smart so I’m worried. I have a 4.37 but that puts me at 17 when last year a 4.4 would have you top 5. It’s all the girls really, out of the top 17, guys take spots at 8,10,12,15, and 17 making me the 5th smartest guy but there are 12 girls ahead of me. We only have 160 kids so being rank 17 puts me out of the top 10% which might not look good.

Okay, what I believe this video is getting at is that GPA isn’t a well-off indicator when comparing to others. There are different scales depending on the school, the number of classes you’ve taken, how challenging those courses were, extracurriculars during said course, etc. If a college were to choose a 4.0 student who had only easy courses and a student with a 3.4 with difficult courses and extracurriculars, then they would mostly choose the latter.
