When I converted to Islam 6 years ago, I didn’t understand very well the meaning of hijab, so for me, as long as I was covering my hair and wearing clothes that hide my skin, I was dressed according to what is expected from a muslim woman. I used to wear very tight clothes but I thought it was ok because I was wearing a headscarf, and many brothers and sisters came to me in a very rude manner to say “you’re dressed but you’re still naked!” And other words like that. I didn’t understand what they meant, I just felt offended and my reaction would be block them or not talk to them anymore, but alhamdulillah, some brothers and sisters had the patience and kindness to explain to me the real meaning of modesty. So what I would like to ask whoever is reading this comment, would you listen to the advice of someone who’s speaking to you in such an aggressive way? If you want to help someone to be a better muslim, so speak to them in a nice way, otherwise if you’re speaking to them in a rude way, you’re just being arrogant and judgmental and probably you’re going to push people away from something good. May Allah guide us all!

A lot people think that most girls wear makeup to attract men or wear certain types of clothing to attract men (maybe some do but not all) when they are just doing it, to boost their own confidence and increase their self love. *when I said they might wear certain type of clothing I didn’t mean to say like wear clothes that are revealing as long as your covered it’s fine what you wear, in my opinion. Tbh I wear makeup because I love to draw and paint my face, I personally do it because it’s fun. Not everything is always about wearing it because you feel insecure about yourself or Islam, I mean I do agree I kind of did word it slightly it wrong off, but hey we are in world where nobody is satisfied with anything.

Exactly, what I found quite ironic was that an Army was agreeing with his message yet had Jimin as their pfp. Like... BTS wear makeup and maybe some have undergone plastic surgery yet she is arguing women should be modest to avoid attracting the opposite sex? Big hit will literally market their looks to get more popularity so I just found it ironic..

@Maria Muhebzada Regardless I don't care if BTS have had plastic surgery but it is undeniable that plastic surgery is common amongst Korean idols and we will never certainly know if they have had any procedures. Many Koreans feel self conscious about themselves when plastic surgery adverts are constantly shown to them, it is unhealthy for young people to see so often.

@Maria Muhebzada Pardon? Sorry I don't quite understand what you're trying to say Edit: I think I understand now, plastic surgery/cosmetic procedures are meant to be discrete and must celebrities undergo them. Since South Korea is the capital for plastic surgery and it is displayed constantly through advertisements there, it is likely that the members have had cosmetic procedures. As they age it is increasingly likely they will have procedures like botox to keep a youthful look. Believe it or not, most celebrities (BTS included) create unrealistic beauty standards which the average person cannot achieve without surgery. Also, their looks will not stay the same forever and they will age since they're human so you never know some may get procedures done in the future. However, they aren't going to gloat if they have had procedures or decide to have a procedure.

If it is mentioned in Quran first we go according to that, if it isn't mentioned in Quran we go to Hadiths.. if it isn't mentioned there we ask the people of knowledge (people who have studied this matter such as a sheikh or scientist/doctor in some other cases) If it is not mentioned in Quran or Hadith, while it is best to ask someone who knows about the subject if we're hesitant, but Allah gave us the ability to think and process 'al hamdu liLah', so this is how I process something that I am not sure if it is permissible or not: 1) Considered as shirk? (A belief in another creator, power or God than Allah) 2) Does it stop you or someone else from worshipping Allah? 3) Does it harm you or others? 4) Does it LEAD to something that is haram? 5) Do you think it could cause any problem? (whether in enviroment, society or for a specific person) As for Art, I personally love art myself and I don't believe it is haram.. but of course some forms of art could become haram, such as those who draw something that now we call NSFW, or create a song about the devil like we saw with Lil Nas X and such. Assuming women only wear makeup to please men is so stupid and small minded. I wear makeup to feel good, because I like wearing it and because I think it's an art. I dont want men to tell me to remove my lipstick because they think they have this sacred mission or whatever. Religion, and how people practice it, is something extremely personel and unique for each person. You cant generalise it

The only two reasons people wear makeup publicly is insecurity or trying to look pretty for someone to get approval. Why do you cover that zit? Why do you actively try to erase "imperfections"? All this reduces down to you see yourself as a thing to be judged by humans. This is very sad. Stop lying to yourself.
@monotropa_uniflora6 жыл бұрын
I'm very sorry but i don't think the creators of this video intended that kind of message. Based on my limited knowledge, Islam tries to prevent people from being attracted to others outside of marriage with these guidelines. The overall goal it portrays for both genders, is to go unnoticed in public. Men and women alike aren't supposed to wear flashy clothing that would make them stand out or change their appearance in any other way that makes them better to look at. All of this of course doesn't matter when you are at home. Many Muslim women I know, enjoy fashion and wear the clothes they like. If the clothes emphasize their body or make them stand out, they wear some kind of outer garment above it when they leave their house. Now makeup is a bit tricky because it's not like a nice dress or cute underwear that you can wear under your coat/clothing and no one gets to see. Even if you do it only for yourself, the point why many Muslims think that wearing it is not advised in Islam, is because it makes you look prettier - therefore making it easier to accidentally create attention. Yes, for you it is art, for you its an expression of yourself and you enjoy it. Yes, Muslim men aren't even supposed to look at you so they shouldn't notice you are wearing it. But, truth is people aren't perfect and, even if you don't want it, a man that looks at you is more likely to keep looking if you look nice, that's how we humans are. Islam is about prevention. A person should avoid things that could end up attracting the other gender and at the same time avoid looking at other's to not become attracted themselves. Surely you might say that this seems very focused on women, and there is truth in that, but the reason for this is more culture than islam. In fact, I would say that islam also doesn't recommend a man to 'style' his beard. A shorter, well groomed beard might be what he likes best, but it also makes a man more attractive. In it's ideals, this way of thinking shouldn't discriminate against a gender but count for both equally. I hope I didn't offend you and I don't expect you to agree with this way of thought...but maybe you can see the ideals behind it. The creators of this video didn't want to suggest that all women have this intention, they talked about something that can have a (in their view) negative effect on society, even if that wasn't the intention. I am also aware that Muslims are, just like any other, a very diverse group and that of course not everyone follows these ideas or supports them. Therefore I am happy this video exists because it reminds people to be polite if they feel they should express a personal concern regarding the religion and how it's practiced. If we don't like the advice someone gives us because we don't agree, we can just ignore it - and the whole scenario in general is just much more pleasant if people address us politely.

On my quest to achieve this I have learnt a lot about human nature. It seems to me that those who are not given traits such as beauty or being wealthy are some of the nicest, kindest and generous people. While the "gorgeous" and well off seem to be the most arrogant and greedy people out there. Of course that's not to say there aren't beautiful kind people out there. I've been in the process of change for a while now and I have made some decent changes but don't you just hate it when people can't let go of your past mistakes. I saw your profile and it intrigued me. I wanted to learn more about who you are and what type of path you would like on in life. Can we talk?

this is all perfectly fine! as long as it doesn't result in Tabarruj, which literally means excessive flaunt, tabarruj usually ends up objectifying women for the sake of the male gaze and would undermine the true value of beauty/ self respect and reduce the woman to a laughing stock or the object of satisfying the perverted and depraved needs of unhealthy individuals. if you wear some light and natural makeup to boost up your confidence a little bit , there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. however, one shouldn't go overboard when it comes to caring about their looks and beautifying themselves ( for example wearing overly heavy makeup that would make you look like a clown or putting on flashy and overly revealing outfits ) for it will cause qoroor(vanity and ignorance) and of cource tabarruj, hope that was helpful.

Even Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said to his messenger in surat An-nahl ayah 125 “Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is most knowing of who is [rightly] guided”. Sister, I know that what I was wearing isn’t the right that’s why I described it, but at that time I was only a student and Hijab clothes in my country are quite expensive, I knew it wasn’t a reason to dress like that but Allah yahdina, I now try my best to dress as modest as possible. But the way that man “attacked me” isn’t good either because A : We are stranger to each other, B : why screaming in the middle of the street humiliating me like that ? C : Nobody’s perfect he probably does sins too and no one is correcting him like he did.

As a muslim female, I would be confused, if I get such an E-mail like that. Maybe I like the color red, or maybe I was just in the mood to wear this color. It's just a color and nobody should take it so serious. If I would get this E-mail, I would immediately E-mail him: Dear brother, why are you so driven to tell me that I could possibly change it? Only because you are used to see this color on women who want to stand out doesn't mean that this color is their trademark. Just chill. In the recommended E-mail he carefully critized the way how the sister wears her make up. As a muslim female, who likes to wear make up: Personally, it doesn't make no sense to me when someone make the effort and write an E-mail to somebody in a ''very polite'' way and accpect her to thank him and stop doing the thing which considered as bad. We live in 21 century and make up isn't anymore a thing of attraction. From my experience men like women with little to no make up. Most women don't even wear make up or dress in a certain way to attract the opposite gender. They do it because they want to express their creativeness and don't want to have a boring live. In Islam there is not a lot of ways to express yourself as an induviduall. There is always rules and expections of the Muslim community that a Muslim have to fulfill. You always have to adapt to the people in you environment. Trying to correct someone , focusing on others is wrong, because maybe the things which are considered as bad from your perspective is ok to someone else. That's why I don't think that this is a good idea to critize someones behavoir, because the curtural practice of being a Muslim is worldwide different. So you shouldn't except that all Muslims behaive one way.

The thing is, if you do something that you should not do in the context of religion, a person does have the right to politely suggest you to reconsider, or to you advise you against it, even when you do it on your own body. But it has to be done with the right timing, with utmost respect in a polite manner, with the understanding of the person who is doing the suggestion that he/she himself/ herself may have a lot of mistakes within him/her that others can advise to correct. In Islam we believe, that our body, our wealth and everything that we "own" are not ours but of Allah's and he owns everything. But if you think that that you can do whatever you want with your own body, even when its self harmful and no one has the right to say anything about your actions (even as a polite suggestion) unless you are directly harming someone else then that's an entirely different belief system. For you to understand this video you atleast have to have that precondition of belief as I aforementioned.

But I saw this man looking at me very furiously so I became really afraid. After 10 minutes I wanted to go home because I felt so uncomfortable because of this previous mentioned man, but when I stood up to go he and to other men showed up and surrounded us and looked very aggressive. My heart started pumping so fast and I was soo scared. They confronted me why I was with someone who was the opposite sex and one of them wanted to start a physical fight with that boy. When I calmed them down I saw that the person who was the most aggressive was smoking, what a joke I thought. 2 years passed and I am still scared to go outside and see those men. This situation was a traumatic experience for me and thank Allah I can seperate people who think interfering in someone‘s life and threatening them is right from how Islam really is. But I can say for sure, if I wouldn’t know about Islam that much, I would have started hating religious people.

Subhanallah, such an interactive yet distinctly delivered lecture by Mufti Menk. I admired the way he balanced out between having an egotistical opinion and the right way to address someone without hurting one's dignity. Being a youth on Twitter, often times I witnessed the horrific threads of arguments among the Muslim brothers and sisters reprimanding each other openly. Recently, a Facebook post was brought up in a thread about a sister dress code and the comments were full of (naudzubillah) appalling "Muslim" men wishing "rape" upon the sister. La illaha illallah it was one of the worst thing I could ever witnessed (astaghfirullah) although both parties were at fault. Rebuking others just because they sin openly and differently from you does not make you one step closer to Almighty or being the "right one". Ya Muslim brothers and sisters, learn to reflect your words and the way you think. Take this video as an example to set on others. Alhamdulillah tabarakallah thank you for educating me further with this video.

In my society *cough* Malaysia, I felt like I'm stuck in the middle. Because the society mainly the Muslim influencers and older generation, tends to always put the fault to the culture around us for the fall of the Muslim People. They say that like, 'This music genre is influencing the youngs with their culture' , 'That culture is bad, don't listen to them' , 'That person is in a bad organisation' , ' That is iluminati, that is a Christian logo, That is bad, this is bad' , 'if you don't follow us you are a bad Muslim'. And sometimes the older generation, follow whatever the social media said about a culture, and remind us youths in terrible way like, scolding us and isn't open for a further discussion about the topic. And sometimes we(teenagers) ask why we need to do this, they would just say, just do it. Without any explanation at all. Its tiring. I mean yes, probably there are some cultures or people that are bad, though there are some people that are non muslim that influence us in a good way and inspires us, but those influencers shut it down and say they are not Muslim, therefore they are bad people ,but its the way they send the reminder to the Muslims are just terrible, and in this specific society has a lot of culture in it. They made the other cultures look down towards us Muslims, they didn't give an impression that Islam is a good religion instead they made us look like people who are ignorant and crazy for power. They always put the fault on others but they themselves are mostly selling the religion's name for to rule the country or to just have followers. I hate it, and to be honest, it made me doubt Islam for a quite a while. I am a teenager, lots of things can influence me, that I understand, but I strongly believe that us Muslims, regardless of age or gender, we need to work together and be smart and professional. Do they need a growing teenager to teach that to those grown old men? But Alhamdulillah, Allah has given me the mind to process this situation. I realize that I, myself need to be a good Muslim. I need to strengthen my own faith to Allah and have passion towards my religion. Almost just like other things in life, if you focus on this one thing, nothing can stop you from parsuieng it. And InsyaAllah, Allah will protect me from getting influence by those real bad people. Thank you to all of you that read all of this. It really means a lot to me, I had a hard time to processing this situation because it's a sensitive and a personal matter to me and i did felt alone, and I'm only just a teenager. I didn't have the power to study everything about Islam, but I do know and actually understand things that is important to secure my faith to Allah. MasyAllah, please du'a for me.

I felt that, really. I too started to doubt islam at one point with all the "do it and don't ask questions" it felt fishy, and all the islamophobes "liberals" started to point out some cultural stuff that had nothing to do with islam and said "that's bad, this is bad that's sexist and that's homophobic" and I started to believe them...when everything was fake, be it the sources those Islamophobes gave me or the "this is haram" stuff I heard my whole life. I feel like, separating culture and religion would be a huge first step. I myself started looking at things differently and asking myself, why would allah order such a thing? Why would Allah allow this thing? Looking us ahadith, verses, explanations, anything that could help me understand. We all are starting to realize how islam is being used these days, it's sad really to see such a beautiful faith being used for some concerning purposes. Congratulations for being one of those who actually ask questions and don't just follow blindly

Still listening. I wish he would correct some folks that think everything is the West fault. I'm from the West and I wish life had been more peaceful thereby allowing Westerners an opportunity to experience life in middle eastern countries. One commenter blames the west for makeup. Make-up is global. Such conclusions r really a sign of ignorant. This video I believe is more about tact than Islam. With the exception of polygamy, I'm interested in the spiritual aspects of Islam.

That makes sense actually, makeup is global, I supposed the message perhaps is that makeup should be applied in moderation. I think more than that, though, the video addresses how many of us Muslims have forgotten how to speak respectfully. And I wish you the best if you wish to explore the more spitirual aspects of Islam. I'd recommend you look into the stories of Sufis such as Hazrat Rumi, Hazrat Shams, Bibi Rabia Basri, Hazrat Nizamuddin, the Naqshbandia muraaqbas, and a book called Embattled Saints. Such sufi practices are an optional part of Islam, and focus on meditation, focusing upon various power points of the body (similar to chakras but not quite) like the Zikr at the Qalb/Heart, and the balancing of the four elements at the Qaalibi point at the crown of the head. Allah's name is recited, silently or out loud upon such Lata'if/points but they must be done under the supervision of a teacher/Murshid/Shaikh (same word different languages) best of luck xx
