My business coach tells me that if I am so busy and I’m booked out for a week or two that I am too cheap and that I need to raise my prices. If my close rate is 75-80%. I’m too cheap and I need to raise my prices. “Profit First” is a really good book to read. Not everyone is my customer. I am not my customer in some instances. Be the highest priced guy in town. Don’t worry about the competition. There really is no competition that provides near the service and value that you do. Your service predicates that value. Sorry for the unsolicited advice. I did Christmas lights my first year this year as a 60 year old. I only had 5 customers (close rate of about 35%) but my average ticket was $2200. I was not my customer. I would not have paid that to install Christmas lights but I found five that did. 😊. I really look to expand in 2021. Keep up the great work.

Nice video Joe. It is funny how different peoples perspectives can be. When you lifted the conveyor table to expose the inner workings, my immediate thought was just how simple and organized it was built... And that’s a good thing👍🏼 However, I do have a concern regarding the hose. The original hose appears to have failed due to the tight bend as it leaves the elbow of the fitting. If you experience another premature failure of the same line, I would either see if there’s a way to route the factory hose a little differently to allow for a more graceful bend at the fitting or purchase a longer hose. It’s amazing what an extra inch will make. Without having hands-on I cannot say precisely how much longer. A hydraulic hose should last for many thousands of hours, especially one which is routed correctly and protected from sunlight. Bless’ns to ya, Tedd

Totally agree Tedd. I'm a wrencher too. Joe is right, looks complex but very simple. Just gotta have the patience to look at it, n break it down to simply form. A to B. B to C. C to D. U seem handy Joe. If it does happen again, drill 2 small holes in the metal to have a fastener route the line for a better bend. I'd wrap it with a sm pc of pipe foam (plumbing section @ Home depot), n zip it down. Foam will protect from vibration n rubbing. Good luck man n nice repair 👍🏽

Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. The Scandinavians know a thing or two about processing wood. Japa's parent company also owns Hakki Pilke and Palax wood processor manufacturers and I believe they export to over 30 overseas markets. I agree you should keep the old hose (I hold on to everything, recently using 12mm threaded bar on a project that I've had since 1979!), not only as a template as previously recommended but also for reuse if you needed a shorter replacement pipe elsewhere after your warranty expires. A hydraulic expert could easily cut off the faulty end and renew it cheaper that he would make up a completely new one.

I am new to the hydraulic world so I am taking in all the comments. This was my first repair and experience with hoses such as this. Thanks for the heads up and I will certainly apply to my operation and knowledge base. Joe

Hey there, really enjoying your videos, I noticed you had a problem filling the hydraulic fluid. Here’s a tip, when using a drum that is full, turn the can 180 deg first so that the spout is upper-most when pouring, this will give you a more even flow as the air is not trying to rush into the container through the spout. I hope this has been helpful, have a great day!

Good morning Joe, I have to agree with jay and Tedd that the hydraulic hose should be an inch or 2 longer in order to have a gentler bend thus reducing the stress on the hose

Hey Joe, having two left hands, normally I can't give any technical hints. But from my experience of filling up oil at hardly accessible points of turbine engines: To ease filling up the hydraulic fluid fill it into a smaller can before! It's much easier to handle than the heavy container and also more precise in getting the fluid go where you want it to go. Greetings from Germany, Johannes ✌

The way those hoses are run there is a lot of places where the hoses should be secured, the way the hose blew and the way the new one is run the hose is bent at the fitting and it is possible the hose will blow again it should be longer and come from behind it should be straight going into the fitting. Hydraulic hoses seem to vibrate and vibrations can wear hoses. Maybe I’m too fussy I was a heavy duty mechanic for years and saw a lot of hoses not run properly and rubbed through or blown. Nothing like working on equipment in 30 below temperatures and have a failure because of an innocent mistake. Love your videos and like the processor. Handles a lot of wood in a hurry . Stay safe my friend.

Just as a tip: if a dealer has a specific hose not in stock or if it's rather expensive: find a hydraulic shopnear you and let them make it. I know of one here that also comes out with his van, makes a new one in there and changes it for you ON LOCATION. It is very handy for companies having different machines out on jobs everywhere.

Morning Joe, it will be interesting to see if that hose blows out again, could have just been a defect, but if it goes again I think I would see about a longer hose and trying to reroute it to avoid that hard bend right off the fitting. I've worked with some equipment that was quite specialized and I had to rely on support by phone to Kansas and they were great, they could walk me through any repair I ever had to make and were able to overnight parts to the hotel I would be staying at and often tell me how I could bandaid it to get through the day.

I live in Estonia, next to Finland. I can tell that the Finnish make great firewood machines. I have a 2005 year Piko 732 right now. It is heavily used. It is a still great workhorse. But for less handwork in the future, I am calculating to change the Piko machine to Japa, and also want to build a firewood platform with rollers and great strong chains for it. Finnish have HakkiPilke and Pilkemaster machines also, but Japa is the most common machine for renters and bigger firewood producers. So Japa is my number 1 option right now, but first, let's see how my business will run the first year...
