Great video as always, filled with YA books I might be forced to read if I failed my challenge. Have you ever noticed how different YA covers seem to be than adult fantasy books? There, to me, seems to be a certain...aesthetic...that YA books have. I dunno. I heard about Earthsea all the time when I first started reading fantasy, but I never picked up any of the books.

I saw Poison Study in the preview clip on this video and that was the 100000% deciding factor in watching this even though i was just checking updates and not planning on watching anything just yet. I LOVE the Study Series! I love the Chronicles of Ixia which is the extended series part of the series (9 total books and a 6 short stories If I remember correctly) Maria V Snyder's Books are one of the only books that I collect multiple editions of and is my go to book gift for my friends. I will be checking out the channel you recommended because I've only seen it on a few bookshelves of Booktubers but I've only heard it mentioned a few times in all the videos I've watched and I think only two of them had actually read the book. I would love to follow more Study fans! That all said as much as I love the series, I know it's not everyone's favorite and for those who have specific trigger warnings they watch out for I don't recommend this to many.

Also, I know the books are getting new covers on the ebooks, for those who read that way. There might be a sale at time point too. I'm not a fan of the new covers. I understand the relations to the books but I don't think it represents the books well. So please don't judge the book by the cover. Read the first chapter in the synopsis on amazon and let that help you decide.

Incoming (positive) rant. I just finished the third book in The Mirror Visitor (series for A Winter's Promise) and I LOVE it. With all of my soul and being. The characters are sooo well done and complex. At the end of the first book there's characters that you're genuinely not sure if you're supposed to like them or not. The story just keeps getting good as you keep reading. I absolutely love the complexity of Ophelia and Thorn's relationship (not saying romantic, their interactions in general). I also love how, especially in the first two books, there's a lot of politics going on but our main character comes from a place without that, so you can learn it all with the character. It's not like she ever masters it either, she's always having to make uncertain decisions that might not work out for her. You also get to learn more about the lore and fantasy of this world in books 2 and 3. It's just absolutely fantastic and I'm literally dying waiting for the fourth and final book to be translated into English.

It's about which hunt and the trying to stop the day light from vanish completely. the magic system is very cool: emotions based with rules. And characters are very engaging. I read all four books of The Mirror Visitor series in French, the first two are fabulous, I've read them three times each. The last two went a lot more on the esoteric side of the story and lost me a bit but the quartet is definitely worth a read anyway! I think the English synopsis is a little misleading though, it's not heavily time-related but the arcs all have their own atmosphere and people with different abilities (reading the past of an object by touching it, creating illusions, manipulating space, etc...).

My favourite book series is definitely rarely talked about - the Obernewtyn Chronicles by Isobelle Carmody. It's Australian, and while I'm British and so know for sure that it has been released here and in the US, the only time I ever see anyone online talking about it they're Australian. It's actually sci-fi but with fantasy elements and more of a fantasy 'feel' to it. The first book was published in the 80s, the final one in 2015 - the author definitely improved and changed her style over that time, and the books got longer and longer! (In the US/UK editions they actually split some of the longer books into two.) I started reading it when I was about 10 (24 years ago!), but the series gets more mature as it goes on (think Harry Potter). You mentioned in your previous video that you like the tropes of the chosen one, animal companions, prophecy and a looming war... it has all of those, but in an unusual way.

Ooooh you’re definitely selling it very well to me by including all those tropes I love! Definitely adding to my list! ❤️🤩

I finally read all this series last year (I had read the first 4 in school) and they are good, but the last book is over 1000 pages or 40 hours. I do t think it needed to be this long, but by then I was really attached to all the characters so... good and bad

@@danielleoliver1734 Did you read the US/UK editions? In the original Australian versions the last 3 books are all really long, but they divided 2 of them into 2 books each for the US/UK versions. As with adult, most of my faves are pretty underrated. I think the best, and most underrated are: The Timekeeper trilogy by Tara Sim. An alternate universe steampunk fantasy M/M romance set in a Victorian London where time is controlled by magic clock towers. When the clock towers break, time breaks, and when the clocks stop completely, time in their area stops and it gets sealed off from the rest of the world. It follows a young clock mechanic - someone who can see and repair the strands of time - called Danny Hart, whose dad is trapped in a town where time has stopped. He wants to be assigned to the mission to build a new clock tower and free the stopped town, which has never been attempted before. Unfortunately he is suffering from PTSD after a pretty terrible accident, and the lead mechanic is hesitant to give him any serious responsibilities. So he is assigned to the clock tower in Enfield, where he meets a time spirit, and things progress from there. Meanwhile, terrorists are bombing the clock towers and stopping time. The first book is a very cute and fluffy romance, for the most part (and Danny and his love interest are my favourite book romance of all time), but the second book blows the plot and world wide open, and it becomes a super deep, intricate, dark and serious story. The romance is still adorable though. My favourite book of all time is Wonders of the Invisible World by Christopher Barzak. It's an urban fantasy about a boy called Aidan Lockwood growing up in the small, sleepy town of Temperance, Ohio. Aidan is just sort of drifting through life. He has no friends, or any real hobbies or interests or ambitions. Then his best childhood friend, Jarrod, returns to Temperance after years away, and starts talking about things that Aidan doesn't remember, but definitely should, such as the strange man in the black suit that only he could see. They decide to recover Aidan's memories and along the way they discover the history of the Lockwood family. I'd also recommend The Rules by F. T. Lukens. Very different to my previous recs. The Rules is an urban fantasy M/M romance about a boy called Bridger Whitt, who, in an attempt to get a job, accidentally becomes the apprentice of a wizard who mediates between the magical and non-magical worlds. He has to learn how to mediate, whilst also dealing with a crush on his neighbour, a hot football player named Leo. Much more light-hearted than my other recs, very comedic, but really nails the emotional beats where it needs to. I would say it's in the same vein as Carry On.

Oooh another one to add to my list 😍

I wannted to read Children of blood and bone, but I also heard some bad reviews about the sequel so now, I am not so sure about it, but the it still sounds compelling. 😃😁

Yeah all the hype kinda died around it, but I’m still definitely interested in the first book! 😍

I ám curious if you will like Earthsea I didn't like it. The writing was weird for me and I didn't care about the characters só I only read the forest book.

I liked Poison Study, 3stars. Hated Children of Blood and Bone and the sequel, both 1 star! Ash Princess was 1 star, and the next 2 I didn't like. Fireborne was 1 star lol. Oh yeah, have you read anything by Lauren James? Her Next Together series is awesome! I gave both books 5 stars. It's Sci-Fi historical fantasy. I also loved Anna Dressed in Blood! The second one not so much :D

I polled my audience and asked them what their favorite books are that they wish more people talked about and shared them here! I love trying to find recommendations from subscribers!

Interesting... I think Children of Blood and Bone is rather overhyped. I swear it was everywhere on booktube, book twt, bookstagram, etc
@JessieMaeBooks4 жыл бұрын
I saw the first book everywhere when it first came out!! But then it kinda died down when the sequel came out so I haven’t seen people talk about it in a while, but I definitely want to try the first one still! 😍
@ivingzuniga8414 жыл бұрын
Jessie Mae yeah, apparently the book didn’t live up to the hype :( it had the potential to be the next big thing™️ with all that promo... hopefully the series redeems itself with the next book tho! (I think it’ll be the finale?)
@JessieMaeBooks4 жыл бұрын
Iving Zuniga yes!! I may wait to read it until the final book so I can read the complete series back to back if I end up enjoying and hopefully that third book is amazing 🤩
@wolkcumulus25474 жыл бұрын
I don't really agree with this list. A few of the books are really hyped like ash princes, children of blood and bone, a winters promise etc. also those have a high rating on goodreads and you see a lot of bookstagrammers talk about these books

This was according to my audience when I asked for them to recommend a book that they wish more people would talk about 🤷♀️
