Thanks for telling your honest opinion. I just read the book and didn't like it either, mainly the end.

To be fair, I listened to the audiobook, not read it BUT! Misery by Stephen King kept me locked in. Holy moly, I have never wanted a character to escape a situation more fervently than in this novel. Annie Wilks is one of the most terrifying villains I've ever encountered and yes, I saw the movie years before I heard the book and yes, it's even creepier.

I just finished listening to Eye of the World, and started on The Great Hunt. And I am ambivalent about it! There isn’t a lot of character development. Most of the characters blatantly disregard multiple warnings as they make stupid mistakes. I understand a couple blunders, or one fool - but ALL of them, all the time?? And there are too many details ripped straight out of LOTR. It’s not even that original.

A recommendation from an American author that is just a little over a century old: The Turmoil by Booth Tarkington. It too may not be cozy all the way through, but I don’t want to say any more.

[MAJOR SPOILERS!] The scene in question makes perfect sense if you understand the whole dynamic of the Losers Club and It. It exists both in the Macroverse and our universe. In the Macroverse It is pure devouring light, but in our universe it can only take physical shapes that humans give it through their fears. For that to happen, the human has to believe in the reality of the object of their fear. Only children have that level of faith in things like that, and they are subsequently psychologically overwhelmed by that manifestation of their fear. They can't fight back. Adults, on the other hand, refuse to accept the reality of such fears, and in fact lose most of them by the time they are grown. It can influence them and get them to do things without realizing they are serving It (and in the case of particularly deranged adults such as Henry and Tom Rogan It can reveal Its existence to some extent), but because of their lack of childhood faith and imagination, they can't fight It either. The only way It COULD be successfully fought is by combining intellectual and psychological traits of both children AND adults, creating a person who had the imagination to fully accept It's reality, the intellectual and emotional maturity to be able to be strong enough to engage It and use It's own weapons against It, and the faith to believe they COULD win. This is what happens to the Losers Club. It was already happening before they were together, because most of them had already survived an encounter with It by that time, which most children couldn't do. But as they joined together this got stronger. There are several instances where this is observed by adults, but the most striking is the encounter between Eddie and his mother at the hospital, when he cleverly manipulates her into letting him keep his friends. They were all chosen for this to happen to them, so that together they could successfully challenge It. After their encounter with It in It's lair, when they severely injured but didn't kill It, their mission as 11 year olds was done, and as they were trying to get back out, the adult parts of them began to bleed away, and their bond was weakening as a result. Eddie could no longer guide them properly, and as vast and complex as the sewer system was they had virtually no chance of randomly finding an exit. I don't think Beverly fully understood all this, but she did sense that they needed to somehow renew their added maturity and the bond that had come with it if they were to have any real chance of escape. She also knew about the ultimate adult 'activity,' and sensed that if all of the boys did it with her it would lift them back toward adulthood and a full bond again, at least long enough for Eddie to get them back to the surface safely. And of course, it worked. It's not stated, but I believe that if they hadn't done it, even if they had somehow managed to get back out they wouldn't have thought to make the promise that ultimately brought them all back (except Stan) 27 years later. So as disturbing as that scene is (for me too, don't doubt it!), it was necessary for the story, if one fully understands the underlying elements of it. Hope this helps your own understanding!

Doing book reviews, there should be spoilers. I don't understand why anyone would want to hear anything about a book that they didn't read. And if they don't want to hear anything about a book they haven't read. They shouldn't be watching the video about it.

Currently reading Perdido Street Station and it is mindblowingly creative. It dives into some really cool biology of strange organisms, almost like a scientific approach. And the writing/prose is just dripping with atmosphere. It's like nothing I've ever read.

Nice to have a video from you, it made me happy ❤ I totally agree with you 100% on all you said about the Greenbone saga, for me it got better and better with every book and Jade Legacy was just wonderful! The novella is good too, not as good but it was fun to spend more time with the characters and have some very interesting revelations. I can't wait to see what Fonda Lee writes next. I am currently reading the Tyranny of Faith and I am enjoying it but I am having similar feelings to you, so it kjnd of made me nervous 😅 but i also enjoyed The first one a lot so i will have to finish to see for myself… *fingers crossed*

I am glad you enjoyed greenbone saga. It is my all-time favorite trilogy. I was bumped when the adaptation deal fell through and now I kinda want it to be an animation of some sort because I think that will give the creators much room for creativity. Hopefully, the adaptation will materialize in my lifetime.
