I'm smiling widely at this video. Thank you so much, Jessie! The Ember Blade is so amazing, and yes for The Stone Knife, too! Both of them are so underrated. But these are great books.😂 Btw, that marketing of Avengers meets American Gods may sound crazy, but it ended up being so true for the last book in the trilogy. SO EPIC. (I haven't read The Dragon Lord!! 😂)

Awesome list. I don't know I need more book suggestions, but I just can't stop. 😆 For steampunk I'd suggest Cherie Priest's Clockwork Century series. Ive read 2 of the 5? I really like her snappy and clever prose, and y'know alternate history steampunk zombies don't hurt.

You brought up a couple of familiar titles. I was intrigued that you mentioned The Shadow of What Was Lost in passing, because I just finished the Licanius Trilogy a couple of days ago (I have mixed feelings about it, but will post a video with a detailed but spoiler-free review in the next couple of weeks). I read Perdido Street Station, and it has the distinction of being the very worst novel I've read through to completion (it's an older video on my channel). Like you, I LOVE the concept of a steampunk setting, but have been unsuccessful in finding a steampunk book that really hits home for me. (The Aeronaut's Windlass by Jim Butcher was okay, but not overly amazing.)

This is such a great list! I have actually read all these books mostly based off petrik reviews! The only ones I have not read are the innocent mage and I’m about 20 percent into dragon lords! Paternus trilogy is awesome and that marketing is definitely accurate! I have really enjoyed most of these books on list!
@soniciris3 жыл бұрын
Perdido Street Station is excellent but I warn at least for me Mieville's writing was very hard to get into, unapproachably dense. Once I was into it it's incredibe, so interesting and rewarding, but I know some people get scared off! He has a middle-grade book called UnLunDun which has his usual vibes but more approachable writing style so it might be worth trying as a jumping off point for him as a writer.

In terms of being an underrated fantasy series that not a lot of people talk about is Legends of the First Empire, first book bring Age of Myth, by Michael J Sullivan. It has a lot of ratings on goodreads, but the only booktuber I’ve seen talk about the series as a whole is the wonderful Jashana. I wished more booktubers would give the series a try! I have to recommend a fantasy trilogy which I have read three times spanning numerous years. None of the books is overly long, but each is truly fantastic and original. The author is Barbara Hambly and the series is called The Darwath Trilogy (The Time Of The Dark, The Walls Of Air, and The Armies Of Daylight). These books move along at rapid speed and have characters who are realistic and have you cheering them on. Lots of suspense and plot twists. Well worth reading.
