If this video doesn't scare a person into taking fire safety seriously then nothing will. Incidentally, another thing that would help in this type of situation would be a fire suppression system such as a sprinkler system. A working sprinkler system would for the most part saved that office.
@josephastier74213 жыл бұрын
That didn't spread as fast as I thought it might, and the fire rolled over but the room never really flashed. I wonder if having one side completely open allowed the heat and gasses to escape and limited the thermal input on the rest of the room.

That void area above the ceiling is a perfect tunnel for the heat to radiate to other parts of the structure... so a small fire even if brought under control by the fire personal coula have started another fire somewhere else in the building and can go unnoticed for a long time.

This is interesting, but surely it can only be so realistic without a 4th wall? Such a fire in a fully enclosed space would have quite a different outcome I suspect - and with heat bouncing and radiating off the missing 4th wall, I think flashover would occur much more quickly than is seen here.
@TimpBizkit9 жыл бұрын
tjf4375 i thought the missing wall would make the fire burn more quickly because it allows vast quantities of oxygen in
@tjfSIM9 жыл бұрын
Well, I think that would depend on how much oxygen was available in the room to start with, but either way, this is not a realistic test without a 4th wall.
@karmirith9 жыл бұрын
tjf4375 But the thing is... it's not a realistic video, because most office buildings now have built in fire things, that would put out the fire. I still think the coolest one is a CO2 because it deprives the fire of one thing, O2.
@tjfSIM9 жыл бұрын
No, breaking the 4th wall is something completely different - that means when an actor talks directly to camera (which is normally where the 4th wall would be) while they are filming on set. What I'm saying is that they needed to build a 4th wall here, because they are demonstrating something whose behaviour would be affected by the radiant heat reflected by it.
@tjfSIM9 жыл бұрын
Ah, it seems I took you too literally. Ok, apologies. I see what you did there.

What is the temperature of the radiant heat 6' away from the rooms exit door at the floor level where a victim might be? If the room was hit by a Heavy SPRAY of water through a window and instantly soaked all the interior material, what would be the temperature at the floor in the hallway? What would be the radiant heat temperature from the "Steam" created by the large amount of water, at the floor? How long would a flame be "Pushed" through the door by the spray before the flame was extinguished by the large amount of water? The answers will go a long way towards deciding which is better, waiting an eternity for firemen to find the victim while the fire rages and the effect on the victim if the room is hit by a large blast of water before the rescue.

Fires can destroy a home and lives. They can cause massive amounts of destruction and kill people who are caught by either the flames or the smoke. If you survive such a horrible thing, you are likely to go through the stress and pain of rebuilding. It is especially difficult if you lost someone close to you. To avoid all of this, you need something that works. You need to fireproof your home with available coatings that are safe as well as effective. This will give you the chance to lower the risk as fire and contain any that do occur. With how dangerous fires can be, there is no reason not to do this. A fire retardant spray or paint will help to protect your home quite a bit. These will reduce the risk of a spreading fire, allowing you to escape and control the flames. If something does happen, like if there is a sudden fire in a single room, there will be less of a chance of it spreading. You will be more likely to survive the fire as well as stop it before it caused any major destruction. These are effective options and they can give you the chance to save yourself in many ways.

The Smoke is on FIRE!
@lilaj34siren10 жыл бұрын
Because smoke is unburned gases, meaning it could catch fire at the right temp. this can also cause a backdraft, say that this office was poorly ventilated with all doors and windows shut, When the fire started it would burn until oxygen became limited then you will get heavy Blackish/yellow smoke and if you was on the other side of that office in the hall or something, you would see blackish/yellow smoke puffing from the cracks of the door and it will literally look like the room is breathing it will poof it in and out in a breathing motion...then when someone opens the door to investigate BOOM backdraft...all of the Smoke and unburned gases will ignite violently because the oxygen going into the room feeding the fire. -Andrew Thomas-Manchester fire department-auxiliary firefighter
