If you're short of breath, a pulse oximeter could tell you if your blood oxygen levels are getting dangerously low. But can a Galaxy phone or a wearable do the same thing?

The pulse oximeter built into the S8 is actually very accurate and clinical grade. it uses an infrared light array and visible light array. But you made it inaccurate by not staying still and talking. When I was at the doctors it was pretty much giving the same reading as the doctors

I can vouch the same usual experience when I was at the ER getting my blood pressure checked. My S7 Edge was matching the reader that was on my finger tied to the machine. It's a shame Samsung remove this from their new phones to push their stupid smart watches. I want to upgrade from my S7 Edge, I might just go to a old used S10.

Honestly thing the Samsung is more accurate. Hear me out, She is sitting, no way her heart rate is 82, 76 seems more close to the average of 72. Also she just read out stay still and quiet and talked the entire time, so if you do it properly it will be more accurate. Also because its taking a reading at the finger like a dedicated SpO2 meter, rather than the wrist like a smartwatch , it should be more accurate than that

Considering that it is just one sensor on a phone it's accurate enough. Later devices also measure it much faster, on my "old" Note 8 from Samsung it just takes about 10 seconds for the measurement. The results are pretty consistent as well. All apps that you use also always tell you that these aren't medical devices, they are meant for keeping your stats during workouts. If you are short of breath or feel unwell you should go see a doctor anyway. The measurement from the phone can give you a basic indication of what's going on at beast. New smartwatches like my Watch Active 2 can measure blood pressure and perform a 1 channel ECG as well. The measurements are pretty accurate (the blood pressure app needs to be calibrated every month with measurements from an actual blood pressure device) but at all times you are reminded that these are just for very basic health tracking and are just indications for what might be going on with your body. It's made clear that you mustn't change your habits or medication based on these readings.

(ಠ▃ಠ) Why not just talk about pulse oximeters brands and comparing FDA approved models as the only option to consider rather than going through the rigamarole of muddying the waters, wondering and comparing two different intentioned products when it’s already known by the medical industry and disclosed by software developers. I think you’re just wasting peoples time and just making a medical reality more confusing. What’s next from you guys a Covid19 themed report on apples vs oranges?

One thing I think everyone needs to understand I think about these devices is that thay are calibrated to the atmos oxygen levels so we are told the atmos is 21% so your red blood sells that the body distributes oxygen to evenly will never have over 21% your body is not a oxygen generator it is a oxygen distributer and ueser it can only get out of the atmos what is in the atmos 21% or less so if these read 100% then your at 21% oxygen levels because thay are calibrated like a scale.

What a joke of a test. I've tested my phone and a medical heart rate monitor but the correct way to do it is to test both instruments at the same time. Even if you use one instrument, doing tests in succession will obviously yield different results.

Yes, smartphones with sensors may not be 100% accurate but they vary as much as a normal oxymeter. Also, your heartbeat changes time to time even when sitting down. It's never constant. So she should have run both tests simultaneously for an apple's to apples comparison. But all I find is her irritating condescending voice.
