When I first started watching you, I had an instant connection with you. Your story could be my story. I started in music in college, but I majored in voice and minored in keyboard. I went on to be a nurse and a mom and homemaker. I also have health issues very similar to yours. My mom and I were very close and learned many things together such as canning and gardening. She passed away in 2019 and I miss her dearly. When I can or garden, I think of my mom and the fire she put under me to learn homesteading and enjoy it. I hope your journey continues to grow and you will be able to resolve your health issues. Take care and God bless you and yours.

Thank you for talking so candidly about musical burnout. As a first chair cellist for 10 years through middle school/highschool/after graduation I've always felt so guilty about leaving music behind. I gave it up after 2 years of feeling obligated to be a part of symphony and local christmas cantatas. My heart wasn't in it anymore and it was no longer fun. I married my husband and have two beautiful daughters at 2 and 4 years old. I have found my heart is now in cooking and gardening. The last time I played was at my grandma's funeral 5 years ago before I had kids. I'll always hold a special place in my heart for my cello and I hope one day to be able to play again and enjoy it just for me.

Listening to you talk about your life was like listening to me describing my life! From the tv shows we grew up with, the relationship with your mom to your proclamation that just because you are good at something doesn’t mean that needs to be your life’s work. I enjoyed listening to this video and I’m glad I found your channel. Bless you and your family.

I so enjoy your recipes, especially the gluten free recipes since I have celiac. I enjoy your gardening and canning. I’ve gardened for over 50 years and when my husband and I moved to a condo to be closer to family , we found we missed the garden so. Our town last year set up a community garden area that we could rent . Enjoyed it so much that we can’t wait till next spring to plant again. You know gardening gets in your system it’s hard to give it up. Keep up the good work !!!

Kelsey, we could be twins, we have so much in common! My mom was a piano teacher and had me playing for church when I was ten. I wasn’t a natural and had to practice hard but God gives you the tools you need when you need them. I ended up playing for three different churches on a revolving basis once I became an adult. I never accepted money because I didn’t want it to feel like a job. I also played the trumpet in band and french horn in orchestra during my high school years. A few years ago I was diagnosed with dupetryn’s contracture and can no longer play the piano, so that was devastating. I was also hospitalized for 8 days this spring and was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis so I am doing the infusions to get it into remission. Oh, and my favorite movies are LOTR, I reread all the Jane Austen books every few years (my favorite is Persuasion) and I love garage sales and second hand stores! 💕

Also forgot to mention I was a history major in college. I had a vague idea of becoming a teacher but ended up working as a technical librarian. My love of history led me to become certified as a genealogist and my maternal grandfather’s ancestry is all rooted around Franklin Co., PA, so if you have Flaugher, Werner or Fultz/Foltz in your ancestry, we are cousins. 😁

Thank you for sharing🥰. I too, played the violin for most of my life, until it was no longer bringing me joy. Seeing it sitting there, gave me feelings of guilt for not playing it. It was a family heirloom, which made it even harder emotionally to sell. I finally decided to get rid of it and allow someone else to get joy out of it, it released the guilt of not playing. Life is all about change and it’s OK to let go and experience new things. On another note, home schooling my child was one of the most rewarding aspects of being a mother, if you are blessed with the opportunity, do it! I am a registered nurse by profession, but gave it up early as my heart was in homemaking, and I never looked back💖

Wow your church experience sounds very familiar. My husband and I attended the same church for over 2 decades. Raised our boys there. Involved in every ministry. I was paid as the custodian. After our boys were grown we really felt it was time to move on. We loved the people in our church family. But it was stagnant. It took us all most a year to find a new church home. So frustrating and sad looking at all these churches. We've only been at this new church since May. We are excited and encouraged to find fellow Christians hungry for God's Word and how to apply it to their lives.

Thanks so much for always putting out such great content, Kelsey! You do a great job explaining things to people like me who are just starting out with gardening/homesteading. If you are looking for video ideas, I would love to see something like a "gardening 101" series. Like "this is how you trim strawberry plants", "this is the best way to water your vegetables", this is how you apply fertilizer", stuff like that. I've read countless articles but I'm a visual learner and really need to actually see it being done.

I did a LOT of flea market shopping with my parents when I was younger. It was more out of necessity than fun, but it still created amazing memories for me. On the topic of content like little women and things like that ... have you watched the show "Anne With An E"? I think they canceled it after 3 seasons, but it is SO GOOD and has the same vibe as the shows that you mentioned. I didn't expect you to like sci-fi ... a happy surprise of something we have in common. Thanks for the chat!

Nice getting to know you better. I homeschooled for many years. My kids are very close even now that they are in college and high school. Homeschooling was hard for my husband and family to except at first. We are a military family so it actually helped us in many ways to stay consistent with the boys school since we would move during the middle of the year or every couple of years. Making your family a priority is what this country needs right now. Families need to eat dinner together no gadgets at the table and have actual conversations get to know your kids and what they they are doing. For my family church is huge part of our lives. We volunteer, participate in mission trips, youth groups, and bible studies. People need a strong foundation to get through the tough times. Love your videos! It makes me so happy to see younger moms focusing on their families ❤🎄

I am amazed at the growth your channel has had in such a short amount of time. I also have a KZbin channel where I talk about gardening and health. I've had my channel for about 6 years and I haven't even reached 500 subscribers. I’m just coming up for air after a lovely but a bit of a whirlwind Christmas and caught up on this video. Thank you for being so honest and transparent! Thank you for all of your hard work on this channel. I look forward to your calm, inspirational, and peaceful videos. I too have been going through a health journey (stage IV deep infiltrating endometriosis) and have sought multiple “nontraditional” healthcare avenues to accompany my western medicine docs. Your health is very personal, and western medicine often does NOT have all the answers! You shouldn’t feel the need to share your story here, but if you feel called to do so don’t listen to haters. They aren’t living your life. I pray you find health, happiness, and healing in 2024. ❤

I really related to your church discussion! Hubby and I didn't continue in the church either of us grew up in - because we moved about an hour away after we married - but once we found "our church" we stayed there and raised our kids there for almost 20 years and thought we would never want to leave. Until....we did. It was for reasons of my health, or so we thought, until we found out a couple of years later that the pastor (who was our kids' youth pastor that went on to become the senior pastor) had gotten caught up in some things that weren't leaving the best example, and it caused a LOT of people to leave the church. It was shocking to say the least, but it became clear then that the Lord had led us out of there for a reason. We did "home church" for a while, recently hubby and the one child that still lives at home have started attending a local church that they enjoy. (I still can't get out much due to my health so I do my own Bible study at home.) Anyway, kind of rambling now but I just wanted you to know that sometimes we're led away from something and we don't really understand why, and that's okay. Just be willing to listen and do what you're being led to do. ❤

Thank you for sharing your life's journey thus far. When I was a young girl, the violin had been my choice as well. It's been years, no decades, since I touch one! I feel sharing your KZbin journey would benefit many folks. Sharing more of the medicinal ways would peak my interest. I have gardened and preserved food in order to feed all those around me as nutritionally as I can, but feel with all the shortages of pharm meds, and more importantly the multitude of side effects from them, I'm trying to learn ways to start an apothecary in order to keep all as healthy as possible from that angle as well. I'm also looking into homeschooling some of my preschoolers. Any advice, guidance and encouragement would be helpful. I was blessed with the ability to acquire acres of land. We've re-dug a pond and have stocked it with trout. Harvesting partridge, rabbit and deer off our land is also an option. I would love to have cows, dairy and beef. I've raised pigs, chickens, and turkeys. Kelsey, don't ever underestimate the value of your kitchen, gardening, and how-to videos. Your mannerisms and ways of being are so comforting......I believe many folks feel blessed to have found you here on this channel. Thank you and Blessings to you and yours.

I recently made the decision to stop pursuing a career as an opera singer. It was probably one of the hardest decisions I've ever made. However, like you, opera became just a lot of work and stress. It also consumed all of my extra time and made any other passions have to sit on the sidelines for years!!! Now that there is some distance from the actual decision (almost a year now) I can feel the relief of not having that really in my life anymore. I still have all of my scores and anthologies and my piano but I haven't touched it in ages. Maybe one day I'll sing (and even perform) again but for right now I have zero desire to sing even the fun stuff. All that to say, I get the whole, working in music kinda killed it for me even though I absolutely loved it before. I hope you are able to get that love of music back someday and be able to enjoy it just for the sake of making music.

I really enjoyed this Kelsey! I am in my 60's and also homeschooled my 4 children. My oldest never went to school. It seemed like we had a pretty good time but once my youngest three married then their values changed. I only have one daughter(33 yrs old) and we were pretty close and shared alot together until she married. Now with 4 children she put them into school and is pursuing a university education and is kind of woke as they say. I just keep loving them and help with the children as much as I can. You’ll get there! You’ll get that land, if it’s meant to be. I’d love to hear about your journey, I saw where you were eating carnivore mostly and gluten free. I’d probably starve! I prefer very little meat. I don’t stop and think how very lucky we are to have 42 acres and a 1 acre veggie garden with 50 raspberry bushes and 200 strawberry plants included in there too. People tell me all the time I should do KZbin. I’m old, at 62, I just retired and there are times when I cannot remember the last time I left this homestead! 😮

Kelsey, thank you for sharing so much! I truly enjoyed this video...and the tree in the background is beautiful. Also, FWIW I think your idea to cut back to a shorter video midweek would work. One of the other you tubers i enjoy did just that. Five-7 minutes on Tuesday and the longer one on Friday (15-20 min). I would teally dislike for you to get (? more) burned out snd stop. You have so much to offer, and your transparency is commendable. Ideas for short topics? Maybe container gardening, at home holiday flower arranging, home decorating, what to look for when antiquing (maybe short weekly series on those Tuesdays). Just brainstorming here. You have a glowing vision for your future. I’m sure God will grace you with your dreams turn reality. ❤ I, for one, would love to know your opinion on channel development, your DITL of a KZbinr. Maybe since you do two videos a week what a WITL would look like? I’m excited for garden preparation. I’m curious about what everyone is planting and the layout of their gardens. Where have you purchased seeds? What are you planting for vegetables, fruit, flowers, herbs…?

I agree the food system is bad and they have lied to us for years. I have been changing all plastics to glass, I haven't bought napkins for years, I use cloth and wash to save. I've changed to using mostly all butter as much as possible, I try to get grass fed as much as possible but not always. I garden and have extended it a little. But now that our son has moved out of the house I want a small farm where it's quiet. We are on a busy road and it's pretty noisy and I am a light sleeper. I know how to make bread I love to cook/bake. I too played piano when little till high school then I quit. Have you ever heard of Yanni? He has lots of music playing piano, He's cute too! Love your channel, keep it up. Nancy from nebraska

In SC we owned 27 acres with a large creek. That was important to us to have water for our livestock. We paid homesteading tax for 1 acre our home was built on the the taxes for the other acres were 1$ a acre. You must have at least 10 acres to get this tax break.

I spent all of my elementary and high school years playing clarinet and singing. I started college as a music major (Christian College as well). I found out that I loved 'doing' music rather than 'dissecting' it. Taking it apart took the joy out of it. I changed my major to nursing. I've always continued to sing, but I'm so grateful God led me to be a nurse.

I just wish he had decided that before he came out with so much student debt because of course it takes years to pay it off. It's such a shame that the cost of college has gone up astronomically over the years!!

I made the mistake of letting mainstream health care "manage" my health for far too long. Now I do my own research, pay for testing doctors wouldn't run, pick my own supplements, etc, and I managed to reverse my autoimmune disease! I'm about to do a parasite cleanse to kick the rest of my issues to the curb. I feel like your channel is at a pivotal point. The excited to share things the first or maybe even 2nd time keeps you going, but a lot of YTers begin to resent making basically the same videos over and over. You run out of recipes, the garden stuff starts to feel repetitive, etc. Its normal to have a lot of channel growth in the beginning as people enjoy your voice/energy/personality/etc but eventually its just hard coming up with fresh content. Same in other types of channels... woodworking, DIY, home renovation. Someone starts a channel to document the work they do on their house and builds a following, but eventually they remodel the whole house and run out of content. But now its a job, so after all that work to get their house the way they wanted it, they move to a new place just to have content to create. Crazy! I know finding property for you isn't just for content, didn't mean it to sound like that. Anyway, you do need a plan going forward to either be content with garden and cooking on repeat, or a creative direction to take it so you don't get burned out until you have something big like a new homestead to film about. I really enjoy the vids Three Rivers does with both Jessica and her hubby to get his side of the homesteading and parenting life. Perhaps your hubby would consider something like that, or a "channel takeover" where he does the voice over of a video. Those always crack me up! I loved this video, and you are just precious. Your momma did a great job, and I know you are going to do a great job with your kiddos!

Hello Friend! How are you? I'm pretty sure I remember you saying you had to travel to take care of a family member, I hope all is well. I too let the health care system put far too many "bandaids" on and had a few tell me it was all in my head! Thats amazing you were able to look into alternatives and find healing! I would agree with you about the channel. I definitely have a lot more content to give I just always second guess myself and overthink things. I'm never sure if people want to keep seeing the cooking, gardening and homesteading content. I know I can't please everyone. Most importantly I just want to remain authentic and share real life. I can't believe the people who seem to just keep buying things(houses or land) for content and I've seen many. Its totally crazy. I think I'm going to stick with the garden/cooking content while trying to not repeat too much and also go some creative directions with different series. I'm hopeful I can get Matt involved a bit more too! Those voice overs get me every time as well. Thank you so much for your insight and encouragement as always!

@@seedandsparrowhomestead Aw, you are so sweet to have remembered that!!! Girl, its a whole thing... my 87 yo dad was admitted to the hospital for pneumonia and learned he has Stage 4 prostrate cancer. My mom passed 15 years ago, and he's since gone almost completely blind and partially deaf. His body is a prison, and he's ready to pass on, so he refused treatment and prepared himself to say goodbye to this world. He thought he had 2 weeks to 2 months, just enough time to get his affairs in order. I rushed to be with him. Turns out he could have years... and the man *cried* for days because he wasn't dying fast enough. He's completely better from the pneumonia and blood pressure issues, which only depresses him more. Needless to say its been complicated trying to help him and to be supportive. Getting old isn't for sissies! And his doctor says he's much more likely to die of malnutrition because he eats like crap. On one hand I can't help but mother him and make suggestions for meals or try to cook for him, and on the other hand, I know he doesn't even care if he eats. Sometimes dealing with him is harder than when my son was a toddler. At least when its your child you can impose your will a little better. I keep trying to remind myself he is an adult of sound mind and I cannot force him to eat, much less eat nutritiously. *sigh* He just had a PET scan done *finally* after much convincing, so hopefully in a couple days we will have a better idea of how advanced the cancer is. Stage 4 doesn't mean much in the world of prostrate cancer, other than there is at least 1 cell somewhere other than the prostrate. It doesn't reflect how much or how severe. For now we are just waiting to see what plan God has for him. I think you have a solid plan going forward for the channel. And glad to hear you have no expectations about trying to please everyone! The only person you *need* to please in this endeavor is yourself! If you get burned out and bored, the channel will suffer regardless of the content, your posting schedule, or the algorithms. I've seen channels wither and die because they drove themselves to misery. You know its coming when every video they do more moaning and groaning about doing videos than providing whatever their niche content is. As long as filming and editing provides you a creative outlet, you can weather the rough times when watch hours are low or the algorithms change. The world is still sadly falling apart, so channels like yours with gardening, preserving, and scratch cooking should still be in demand for awhile. Hopefully more people will have their eyes opened to fragile and dangerous industrial food supply and your channel will continue to grow and thrive! I particularly love how calming and peaceful your videos are, which in these times is just what I need to keep my sanity! You just keep being you and your channel will continue to flourish!!!

Hi Becky, watching from the Netherlands. Having different views regarding health and how to go about does not being out the best of people. I had breast cancer and didn’t want chemo. That makes some people really uncomfortable. But I have been clean (remission?) for 9 years so my alternative health care did work 😊. Also my kids are not vaccinated and I literally had people ask me if I wanted my kids dead or to have polio. Such strange questions because I do what I believe to be right. I don’t go around saying to parents who vaccinate, do you want your kids to have an overall lesser health (extensive research has shown that unvaccinated kids are healthier than vaccinated. It’s an American research that has been going on for 20 years. I have 2 very healthy 16 years old, had all the kid’s diseases before 6, never been sick since. So whatever your look on health, you do you and try not to let the hateful comments get to you. I would like some more content on your home made remedies.

First of all, congrats for beating cancer!! I'm sure it was a very scary time! Secondly, about vaccines in children, I have two grandbabies seven weeks apart. My son and DIL have let my grandson get every single vaccine and my daughter and SIL haven't let my granddaughter get them. My daughter did LOADS of research and learned some terrible things about them. Of course, I do not judge my son and DIL at all for vaxxing their son but he has HORRIBLE reactions EVERY time and it's so sad!! He has reactions that about 5% of kids have sometimes. My DIL just doesn't really research things which is ok. Hers and my daughters labor and delivery experiences were also complete opposite. All that to say, medical things are very personal and people need to realize it doesn't make one wrong and one right. I just wish my grandson didn't have such bad reactions and hopefully he won't have any side effects from them in the future. I don't know if you've ever heard of Candace Owens but she did a series called Shot in the Dark that was super interesting.
