I tried something new! A Day of Baking in the Homestead Kitchen

I have the best recipe for microwave lemon curd. Melt 1 stick butter in microwave, cool. Whip 3 eggs until frothy. Add 1 cup sugar and 1/2cup fresh lemon juice. Add cooled butter to mixture and stir well. Microwave on high for 3 minutes. Remove, stir well, microwave 3 more minutes, stir and then refrigerate, will thicken when cooled. Save in the refrigerator. Delicious every time!

We make the pesto trees with brie. Also, with the sides you cut of, I always make a 2nd tree. I get 2 for the price of 1.😊

Do you think frozen bread dough, rolled out, would work for the snowflake cinnamon rolls? I make pecan rolls by slicing frozen bread dough, then I cut each slice in half, so they look like half-moon shapes, after putting butter and a lot of pecans in a 9×13 pan, I lay the slices in the same direction, until they almost touch. I mix up instant vanilla pudding mix, brown sugar, and a little white sugar and cinnamon, and heavily sprinkle it over the dough. I then sprinkle a BUNCH of raisons over it, and a stick of melted butter! They rise overnight and I bake them Christmas morning! It's a favorite of my family, and way easier than making the dough from scratch!

Oh my goodness! All those recipes look absolutely amazing! I love the idea with the snowflake roll. I, unfortunately, did not inherit the baking gene from my (late) sweet mother. My lucky sister won out on that gene in the family. However, after watching your video, I may have to give it a try. I’ve been wanting to try cinnamon rolls. I’ve been putting it off because they seem so involved. The snowflake roll you did seems like it may be easier to do then regular rolls…and so much more prettier too. I love your videos and look forward to the next!

I had a coworker years ago that would make the Pavlova and it was outstanding, I have totally forgotten about that classic beauty. I think that I will do the tree with our lasagna on Christmas Eve. Oh We did the merengue tree before. I used some green food coloring in the merengue so the whipped cream layer stood out a bit more and together with the curd resembled tinsel. It was fun to do

I make the puffed pastry tree with a variety of toppings and I’ve made the Pavlova tree a few times but I haven’t made the snowflake so I will for sure give it a try. I like the way it looked with just a little icing and powdered sugar btw.

Your videos are always so calming and de stressing. I love that you forged on through the day to get this task done. Even though you were tired and over it by the end of the day, your video is still a calming comfort. I learned that although each of these look fun to make, it would probably be a good idea to do them on separate days. The first one i want to make is the star. I, myself, am gluten free so I think I’ll research how to make puff pastry thst I can eat. I have never attempted a pavlova. That would be super fun to do! But I’ll stick with the gingerbread star as first on the list. Thank you so much for being transparent in this video. I commend you for giving the pavlova a try especially pushing through and finishing it even though you were tired. I’ve never heard of it and to be honest it looks a little intimidating. It turned out great though! Everything turned out wonderful but I have to say I think I’m going to give those gingerbread cinnamon rolls a try sometime soon.
