#Honda CR500 #1987 Honda CR500
This week features the way the Honda CR500r 1987 is built.
So another worthwhile project hits the screen. No less the beast, a 'Man bike', Cancelled in the name of safety, What ever you want to call it. This is the last un-restricted crazy idea from Honda to produce a bike you simply can't use to it's full potential. Dull 4 stroke restricted racing still sees the CR500 2 stroke competing and winning in many unrestricted races after 30+ years of so-called- development. I want one. I want it in a glass case just to know I have something that belongs to another age.
Lets see if it is up to the hype..

I remember re bushing my XR . Taking photos is a godsend because the linkage is really confusing . Remove as much as possible .. air box etc ..less is definitely more .

I always digged honda bolts, dished and top hats look the business. Pro link time? I was in college working bldg security at the front desk to pay for my schooling, I had a copy of mxa magazine showing the new 87 race bikes, I was floored when I saw the line up, and how high tech the 87s were..🤠👍🇺🇸

@@MyRestoration1 I had an Ariston RD40. Whenever I moved home Ghost in the Machine was the first album on the deck, to make sure everything was set up right. Speakers first then Sennheiser cans

This build is really coming together, I can't wait to see the end result, it will be stunning. I see you decided to go with the aftermarket exhaust pipe which was a good call, I did think the OEM one you got was to far gone to use !!!!! Watching these video's has inspired me to have a go at restoring my sons CRF100 which was his first dirt bike 10yrs ago. It runs perfectly but looks like an absolute shed on wheels. It has been used and abused by so many kids since he finished with it. I'm going to follow all of your methods to revitalize his bike and bring it back to original condition with as few new parts as possible. One critique, Why go with those hand guards? they were never fitted as standard and never used by MX racers, also the hole you drilled into the grip and throttle tube allows dirt and grit in and gives potential for a sticky throttle. Defiantly not what you want on a fire breathing CR 500. How long are you going to make us wait for the finished build video...... I can't wait !!!!!!

I’m not done yet! I will run it with the PC and fix the OEM one in time unless I find one. Yes the guards are definitely coming off..Thanks again!

Losing the hand guards is a great decision as it will only enhance the OEM look. imho@@MyRestoration1

@@paulgaylard1603when I started this project I really had very little knowledge of what was OEM, acceptable etc. As my learning curve peaked it was already on without thinking. The saddle is also now correct as the next video with show. 👍

Oh Jeff…that day will come when I find out myself 😳 That said I’ve heard of these bikes costing upwards of $20k to restore! Suffice to say a few thousand considering what I started with and managed to save. It all helps. I will share this with you all. Thanks again for chipping in as you do often. Much appreciated

@@MyRestoration1 Thanks for the reply. Loved the music on this one also (like all of them). Do you restore bikes as your primary employment, or a side job, or just as a hobby? Forgive me if you've addressed these questions in previous videos. If it's a for-profit enterprise, how do you set your bottom-line sale price? All parts/shipping/original bike costs plus X per hour for your time, or something else? If this is too personal feel free to avoid responding. In any case, love your content.

Not at all. I’m in the public domain! MyRestoration is basically a KZbin channel which starts with motorcycles and will follow my journey to my music career of which I spent many years as writer and then producer. All to come. This is a hobby as I’m the owner of CarbonBikeRepair which is a well known cycling brand. I restore motorcycles to give me some sanity! If you are bored you can find todays interview with Bike Radar on their KZbin channel. 👍

I get that you love music and you really have great taste but I highly recommend avoiding playing it in your videos. It is jarring jumping from one scene to the next and I wouldn't want you to get demonetized or anything of the sort.
