@karietothepowerofbooks52053 жыл бұрын
I have been going through that realization for months. When I first got my rabbit we use the bedding, but like you said, he just ended up digging it out. Now there’s a towel if he wants to use it, and I just use that bedding for litter. I find it works really great for that. And I know it’s been said before, but God your channel is so underrated I have learned so much from it probably more than any other resource, and I have used quite a few resources over the last months.

I use it for litter. It's easier to get than the other stuff you mentioned recycled paper cat litter. Plus I clean it out every other day. I don't have the luxury to use towels ( I can only do laundry on weekends). Plus he likes to chew on them and I can't keep them in his cage without fear of him eating it. As for where mine sleep, he likes a dog bed. He uses the edge as a pillow. Mostly during the day I'll find him in his hut laying on the bed. At night he'll sleep on the hard floor. He also likes grass straw mats to sleep on.

Thank you for sharing these ideas! Much appreciated! I have a cardboard box that they use to go in hide in if they want (I have two brothers) and they sometimes sleep on top of the box, which is much softer than the floor, so this is their preference. I'm going to also get them a hammock. One of my bunny brothers is an adventurer, so the hammock would be an adventure for him more than just another place to sleep. Although they both get plenty of adventure. They sleep and eat inside in a very large cage and then every day we either bring them out to the porch or an outdoor grassy run we created so they can run around and do binkies. We bring them outside around 6pm when it's cooled down outside but before the mosquitos come out. We also have chicken wire as a roof for the outdoor grassy run because we have hawks. Thanks again and God bless!

Oh my goodness. I can’t imagine not using bedding in my buns litter box. Having to use a towel or sheet every time I clean the liter is way too much work and washing. I guess to each their own on this one.

I always thought that had to be so uncomfortable! We use wood pellets for litter and I have a few small pieces of flannel or fleece or towels laid out around the crate if they want it! Most of the time they opt to lay on the cold hard plastic 🤦🏽♀️. They both free roam (separately bc one female would legit kill the other) and even still, they choose to sit in front of the fan or sit against the cold window! Such precious little babies!

Our rabbit has always slept on the floor either laid out on his belly or flopped on his side like a dog and it's really cute. He doesn't go near anything like pillows or blankets when he wants to sleep and we don't need to buy any bedding materials. For his litter I bought a bin from Walmart and some metal cooling trays that fit nicely over the top of the bin. Then I drilled 6 holes around the outside of the bin and zip tie the cooling racks over the top. Fill that with litter material and put their food on it until they learn to pee in the bin. Worked for me and our bunny is free roam and doesn't pee on the floors at all.

I only used paper bedding for a small period as litter for them. Then switched to small pet select wood pellet litter, after that, just stopped using litter because my bunnies will DIG and DIG at the litter, regardless at the time, and much prefer the large amounts of hay on their puppy pads. And boy do they love flat surfaces. I have a shelf, a four tier shelf, that holds most of my stuff, but the very bottom has a cushion and a fleece blanket over it as a hidey spot for them. But Xiao Wu LOVES laying on our vent because it's made of metal and really cool when it starts getting hot in the house. Tu Shen will flop just about anywhere he wants, even at my feet.

A sheet towel just traps moisture and stink smells of the rabbit, grass bedding brings bugs ad mice. I use soft insulation foam roll and foam puzzle mats. I had a domestic rabbit dumped on property. Made it a shelter out of old foam cooler and scrap ply wood wrap coveing. Then put old foam puzzle mat and soft insulation foam roll crumpled up on inside. This insulates it and is soft. I was a bit confused bc I use hay and bedding and a pee pad only in my rabbit’s litter box. I don’t use it outside of their litter box or any of that. I clean her box each week cause she doesn’t soil it very fast. I just have a mini dog bed, a shirt of mine, and a blanket from my rats one for comfort and two to get used to our smells. Otherwise I let her have the cold floor nice and open for her to hop, lay down, binki, stand on her hind legs etc. she sometimes dogs in her litter box but out of the month I’ve had her in a playpen, instead of a hutch (which I will never put her in again) she’s only dug in her box 2-3 times. It doesn’t bother her, it’s one of her favorite places to be in her pen. So I wasn’t sure if you meant don’t have bedding for the pen and everything else or just the pen? If you could clear that up for me, that would be awesome!

At 1:58 a whisp of cobweb or rabbit fur falls into screenshot on the left side. It's fascinating and quite balletic. Edit: I've come to rely on a steady stream of soiled straw to mulch my garden. I agree about the mess and the bugs so Sunday is breakdown day where I put the bunnies on some "pasture" outside and breakdown their hab area, pull it all outside and hose it down, sweep the floor. Then I give them a biscuit of straw to pull apart when I put it all back together. They are going to get hay everywhere anyway. A bale of straw is $10 and lasts for months. The fodder store even sells polythene bags you can put the bale into before you cut the strings so it's all contained. Before that I had a high wind come in and blow away a whole bale and the tarpaulin I had over it to keep it dry. There was straw all over the carport. lol.

How can I handle homeless rabbit who suddenly visit my front door everyday? I just throw pieces of bok choy. Will He leave soon?

I use paper based litter for my boys. Then put shavings on top. They were neutered 2 weeks ago and spend a lot of time pushing around the contents of the litter box (particularly after changing) and are still leaving a couple of poops outside of the litter box. Does anyone have any experience of this behaviour? Does anyone know if this is them saying they don't like the shavings? or is it just their hormones haven't finished dropping?

I use newspaper as bedding. I just lay it down , I find that the easiest and cheapest thing 😭💜and my bun does all his business in there just fine. I just started litter training him about a week almost 2 weeks and he’s been doing so good

My main suggestion for you is that if you're going to use newspaper as litter or bedding for your bun, please make sure that the paper you're using is printed with a soy-based ink or other alternative. Most major newspapers today use these safer inks, but it definitely doesn't hurt to double check! Bunnies have VERY sensitive stomachs, and they are not physically able to vomit if they consume something that is toxic to them, so the best thing you can do is not give them that chance! Best of luck with your litter training and I hope your bun lives a long, happy and healthy life!

Um my bunny has never ate the news paper. I simply lay it down and he only eats the hay and does his business on there . I always watch carefully to see if he has eaten the newspaper everyday and he never does . This works best for my bun . And I always make sure to see if my bunny is acting normal . Thanks for ur advise tho

WhenTheFoxGRlNS I wouldn’t put something in my bunny’s way if I think it could harm them .

@@biancaking982 I apologize if my comment offended you in any way. It was not my intention to do so. I was simply given the impression that you were a relatively new bun owner, so I thought I should share some advice that I've picked up over the years. While I'm sure you're a good bun parent, truly, I only meant to say that we're all just human - looking away for even 60 seconds is all it can really take when it comes to the life and death of our buns. Of course, no one can actually do that, so bun-proofing their environment beforehand could make all the difference. If you find something truly works best for you and your bun though, then hey, keep it up! 🙂

@@WhenTheFoxGRlNS I appreciate your comment if it helps. I’m a new bun owner and there’s so much false information:(
