poopy doo doo, goes in magic box, water comes out. Profit
I add bacteria producing enzymes once per month in order to facilitate the breakdown of solids. Things we put down the drain (e.g., detergents, cleansers, etc.) can inhibit breakdown. Pumped out every other year, my 44 year old septic tank and leach field work perfectly.

@housenotebook Жыл бұрын
I agree. The only thing I missed was the distribution box. Your septic tank's job is to break down waste. But after that, we've got some liquid leftovers. Where do they go? Enter the D-box! The D-box is like a traffic cop. It sends the liquid waste (effluent), evenly into your drain field. It makes sure everything flows nice and smooth. But if the D-box gets lazy, we've got trouble. The waste might not spread evenly. Some parts of your drain field could get swamped. Believe me, that's not a fun time!

Plenty of sinks and showers/bathtubs don’t connect to the septic and have a separate gray water system. Which is very beneficial because it extends the life of your drain field by quite a bit

It would be smart to construct an integrated wastewater treatment plant for 50 houses instead of doing all this huge separate individual nonsense. Of course, the wastewater treatment plant can be designed with the future development plan in mind. Say, after 10 or 20 years, a sewage treatment plant can be modified to a sewage treatment plant for 200 or 1000 houses, and so on. Waste of time and money and negative impact to the nature.

I went to the town meeting , and voiced my displeasure I said I don’t want my sewage have to be diverted to the sewer system. If my septic system works fine anyway.

Ok.. So for a very small vacation place that is a cottage with a small kitchen, 1 bath and that is used maybe a few days a month.... How does that work? The septic system has been in place since 1950. No idea if it has ever been serviced or how it works and there is no access to it as far as I know. Is this a disaster waiting to happen? We have not installed a garbage disposal because we though it would be bad.

One bit of information that I'm looking for, that I cannot seem to be able to find anything on, is combining multiple types of septic systems together. Is it possible to daisy chain different types of septic systems together for the most robust cleaning, and least amount of maintenance? For example, I would like to use Soakaway worms in the first stage, because I am of the understanding that the worms will process nearly all solids. Meaning little to no need for the pumping out of sludge from the system. For the second stage, I would like to use an aerobic system. The bacteria should be able to handle any waste products that make it past the worms. From there, I would like to use a gravity system to a drain field. I am hoping that such a system would put only the cleanest and safest end product onto my land.

@DrawingTechnical4 жыл бұрын
I am now going to search for what cesspools are, can't wait to find out!
@TheRabidPosum4 жыл бұрын
@@DrawingTechnical it's pretty simple. It's just a big pit underground with cement rings with holes for the water to leach out and a cover. Most have a smaller overflow cesspool connected if the main one fills up. A dry well is the same idea but smaller. But instead of serving a whole house or building it just serves one appliance such as a washing machine or slop sink.

My uncle has this bright idea that the toilet paper is going to clog the septic tank up and then he puts his shitty paper in the trash and doesn't throw it out smh
@roberttill37873 жыл бұрын
It does add to the sediment in the bottom of the tank so yes, it does reduce the pump out time, as toilet paper does not as such decay. The best way to get rid of toilet paper is to have a clinical waste bin next to the toilet that toilet paper can go in.
@dannystricker8543 жыл бұрын
@@roberttill3787 That's what we do and it really extends intervals between pumping
@roberttill37873 жыл бұрын
@@dannystricker854 Human waste is pretty much eaten by the bacterial action. Toilet paper is refined cellulose which does not get converted by the bacteria, so falls to the bottom as sediment. If you dont add it the tank will last years between pump outs, as you have found.

If those leach lines are in a backyard, is it safe to have dogs running around there ?
@NadyaPena-013 жыл бұрын
totally. The lines are buried underground with drainage so water should not be surfacing up to the top soil. I'd be more worried about the dog waste on the soil because it can contain bacteria harmful to humans (such as salmonella).
