I totally get this. I keep my Starbucks paper cup with lid and refill it with my homemade coffee during the week to trick myself into thinking I did a coffee run. Sometimes it’s just the routine that’s hard to break.

Decluttering is such a strong wake up call. It also can be very overwhelming. A tip that helps me tremendously : if it's too much, begging by selecting items you need and put the rest aside. Try using only that selection for a few weeks or months. Then, you will see what you really need. It will also be easier to get rid of stuff. This whole process let you experience a minimalist lifestyle without the stress of decluttering first. It's very motivating. For example: clothes. Create a capsule wardrobe with your closet and try sticking to it for 3-4 weeks. You will realize how little you need. You will also rediscover your clothes, wearing them multiple times and being creative with them. It will create less mess, and less choice fatigue. Then, decluttering will be easier. Hope it helps !

This is a terrific idea! I never wanted to make a decision based solely on my feelings in just one day. My feelings are so unpredictable. This makes much more sense.

I don't do impulsive shopping and I don't wait 3 weeks. Usually I'm more lazy to buy things I want or I think about for months. Then I do right choice. Great example... I was looking for nice fluffy creamy carpet with black crossing lines under my sofa in living room. But it was too expensive on the internet and I really didn't know if I really need it. And then after months I randomly bought it during my trip in Marocco. Good quality, no platic just wool, handmade from locals and more cheaper. So lucky I waited till this unplanned moment.

My weakness is actually food 🤣! I like the experience of going out to eat! I got over my shopping addiction years ago 😂. I shop by the season and only buy makeup and skin care when I run out of that item.

To say this video was helpful is an understatement. You are very straightforward and practical. You also seem sincere which helps drive your point across. The financial mess I’m in is beyond explanation so I’m hoping to really change it around. My dream is to own my own beautiful big but functional house. I feel lots of my spendings has actually come from the unhappiness which arises from living in small places which I share with others or have bad neighbors but if I don’t curb my shopaholism I will never have my dream .

I heard an amazing quote once: “look around your home: all that stuff used to be money. And all that money used to be TIME.” That doesn’t mean don’t buy a want over a need, but intentionality is everything

When I'm particularly stressed and I feel that "shoppy" impulse starting to win, I go to the library/library website! I can "shop" all I want, bring home a stack of things, "check out" on a huge cart, and not be a penny poorer.

The wish list has worked for me for yearssss! 😍 If I LOVE an item that I need, I'll add it to my wishlist and leave it there for weeks, sometimes months and if I feel like I still love it (I have to fall in love with smth to actually buy it, not just like it), then I'll buy it. A lot of the times I wait so long that I end up getting 70% discount when it was at 40% when added to my wishlist haha

So many good tips in here. At the same time I feel so called out. 😅 I think I shop when I'm bored too. I spend hours just scouring shopping sites or whatever and in retrospect it's really a waste of time. I think for me it's also the fact that I live in small city and it's pretty limited in terms of choices. I like to buy things in person but sometimes it's just not possible. Then I look online, ordered it, and become disappointed because it's lower quality than I thought. It's a vicious cycle.
