Idk too much about soulmates, but what he described applies to a twin flame (or twin mirror soul). A twin flame challenges you and will keep showing up in your life to teach you to master yourself. Once you've realized you met yours, you two are connected spiritually for the rest of this life, even if you two are not in a harmonious union with each other. Your twin flame in essence is you in another body. You two share the same soul just each are half of it. You two are basically energetic mirrors of each other. I think he’s saying that a soulmate is someone who shows you where you need to improve on. So if someone says something that pushes your buttons, that’s showing you where you’re still lacking and at fault. He’s saying that soulmates cause you to progress and change for the better because they involuntarily not voluntarily, show you where your weakness are. I completely agree that whoever “pushes your buttons” person is part of teaching you inner peace and all that but I think what’s throwing me and a lot of people off is when he’s using the word “soulmate” for it. It kinda makes the message hard to understand because of the type of relationship that comes to mind with other people, whether it’s like a friendship, brotherhood or sister, father or mother, maybe a companion too. You misunderstood. He’s saying if someone pushes your buttons in a way, unintentionally, and you overreact to that- that should tell you that you are lacking somewhere and that you need to work on it. Because first and foremost, you’re responsible for how you react. So if someone says something that you lash out at, it exposes where there’s still room for improvement. Most people blame their reactions on other people but really it’s on you, and the people in your life who you think keep “testing” are subconsciously teaching you something about yourself. Wayne Dyer did not support abusive relationships. Or negativity for that matter.

The way this is being stated seems to be very toxic and unhealthy. Both should be able to have confrontation to come to a solution in the relationship.
