I have been having pain on my tibial inner side and after x-ray, it turned out I had stress fracture which has been healing however slowly since I have been running with the pain for almost a year. With this video and in respect to my doctor advise, I now know the right approach is to slow down until recovery.

I have been running, sprinting with a stress fracture since past week. I thought it is just a calf strain. It used to hurt in starting of run but after sometime the leg felt normal. Then it would hurt just a little while walking.then next day the pain came back but I could do training easily so I didnt cared. And finally today I thought of researching a little and found out that I have stress fractures. I put so much load in it but im glad it didn't get severe.

I have antique stress fractures in the long bones of both feet from running at meets and especially practice twice per day in 1970. We had cheap "Converse" tennis shoes & ran on gravel roads in a rural area. It was common to be asked to make a 6 minute mile over 13 miles measured by the coaches vehicle. I had grown 6" a year earlier, and told not to play football as bone density had not caught up. 7,000+ mile later, finished school and recruited to college. We ran the same but the team came first in the Nation in NJ. as I was producing 5 mile runs at 25 minutes even, and 6 miles at 30+. Fast forward 45 years, on a strong blood thinner very popular, but notice little pain but beet RED tops of feet. A foot Dr had indicated inserts that hurt. But said 7 fractures in left & 9 in right. Now slightly puffy with some discomfort but bright dark Red! Everyone is freaking and has there opinion. My career had me on concrete, running upstairs for parts as I fixed cars. I am interested if (Dec 2022-Dec 2021) if I can get advice! My GP, has me on a well known blood thinner in the US., yet not sure if I have anything to worry about. I have work to do and never lay around. I have practiced sleeping on my back, legs high, but no change. I have had these feet for years and plan on using them! Suggestions or questions? Thanks so much for the info you did provide. Life is strange long trip. Hope you read this after as year of posting! Happy Dec 2022 holidays! God bless you all!

@ Well, thanks kindly for the nice words. After farm chores, my beer drinking stepfather chased me with a belt. It hurt so I learned to run faster. 3 mile down the railroad tracks (Unused) came next to high school. So I ran on the ties. In 1975, set went to Wichita State outdoor and set a 2A high school record for state at 4:10.19 mile & 1:57.02 for 1/2mile. The problem is the tops of both feet are red skin & slightly painful. I have multiple patches on bottoms that feel like quarter sized leather is glued on. But nothing there, no calluses. Lots of damage from converse tennis shoes called “Chuck Taylor’s”? Our choice was white, black, high top or low. I chose low because lighter. The coach bought be my folks bought nothing. It wasn’t because they didn’t have money, I was adopted and didn’t look like my younger siblings. My bedroom was in the basement with pegboard walls on 2 X 2” studs & shower curtain for door. I left 3 days after my 15th birthday in my $150 pickup I bought with hay money, 65 Chevy Apache truck. Hid my truck & bunked with a buddy in town. Town was 4 blocks long any direction and only 2 blocks to school. I left the folks a 5AM cow to milk & someone else to stack hay in top of barn. Sucked but got away from all. Haven’t seen them in 49 years. But arthritis came to visit and stayed. Wear hard bottom pro-shoe that weigh 1/2 pound. If you ran, let fingers hang! You will burn energy trying to hold them straight and slows you down. Happy 2024 thanksgiving!

I feel like shit but I can’t stop playing basketball it’s so addictive but I’m doing my best. I’m sure sports lovers will understand trying to stop playing but anyways am I still able to recover completely if I rest for 8-10 weeks straight ???

Yes, you can recover but it will take as long as it takes. Try to take a longer term view on this - you can either give up a few months of fun now and make a relatively quick recovery or you can continue to train and force it and then be forced to stop for a much longer time.

I have a meniscus root tear which lead to a stress fracture of the tibial plateau, plus a Baker's cyst. Very painful. My ortho has ordered a period (4 wks.) of limited weight bearing using a walker to aid in walking. So far I feel my knee is worse. It is now twisting to the side, so not stable. 3 days after I got the stress fracture I did go to urgent care to be tested for a DVT. D-Dimer was neg.

I'm not a doctor but from what I learned during healing my Stress fracture, strengthening the calve muscles won't help with healing. Training (esp. tibialis anterior) could even lead to more inflammation in the periost. Maybe wait until it has healed and then start strengthening the whole muscle chain from the glutes downward... Just my opinion, good luck to you ☘️

I was running on Sunday and realized after taking off my shoes to go home, I had a pain on the bottom of my foot that hurt when putting pressure on it. Monday I could barely walk on it and was limping but iced it and kept it elevated at night. I am feeling better on it now with almost no discomfort but feel it occasionally. I am joining the Air Force soon and rather not see an urgent care if I don’t need to, to not cause issues getting in at the moment. What could it be?

It can be one of many things - I explain how to diagnose it here: www.sports-injury-physio.com/post/foot-pain-in-runners-a-quick-guide If you don't want to go to urgent care, this is something our team of physios can assess via video call. @Peppermintsssss3 ай бұрын
Hi, i was wondering if you can help. I checked the consultation but see you no longer see patients, which is a shame as you are so knowledgeable! I've watched a lot of yout knee videos and still aren't really sure what I've done. Ive seen two physios and neither can tell me what the issue is so I'm at a loss. As context I'm a runner and weightlifter. About four weeks ago I just ended my usual workout with some sprinting. Didnt notice anything at the time, but that night i couldn't stand up from the sofa as my leg felt like it was going to crumble to pieces. At first i felt it was my hamstring as i had hamstring tendinopathy in the past and iced the area. Within a few days of rest i could do my usual weightlifting routine without unbearable pain, but any attempt at jogs/running/bounce/hops or landing, or even farmers walks / picking up a dumbell from the rack the pain in my left knee is so bad. Now its at a point where weightlifting is hurting too and i feel pretty depressed. The pain seems to keep changing all the rime - sitting for ages i can feel pain in my glute, the front of my foot feels strained, and outer side of my shin is increasingly hurting. Its very strange as generally when i try to run the pain feels more in the knee potentially giving way. Would love any opinion on this or if there is a specific physio in your team youd recommended. Thank you
@SportsInjuryPhysio3 ай бұрын
In your case I would take a wider angle and, in addition to assessing your knee also assess your hip and back to ensure it isn't referred pain causing some of your trouble. For this type of injury, I can recommend my colleagues Ross, Kevin and Dominic. Sorry for not being able to help myself.

I had tibial plateau stress fracture and went to rest for 3 weeks in cast and now there's no pain. How much time it'll take to fully heal so that i can walk properly or continue my normal activities?
@SportsInjuryPhysio10 ай бұрын
There is no set time - it depends on how your body reacts to slowly easing back into normal weightbearing. The only think I know for sure is that it really is better not to try and rush things and take it slow because stress fractures has a way of flaring back up if you increase how much you walk or stand etc. too suddenly.

I have a stress fracture in my tibia and fasciculations in my calve since then. Why the fasciculations? No doctor could tell
@SportsInjuryPhysio5 ай бұрын
There doesn't seem to be an answer for that one - I've researched it a lot because it is quite common for some people to get it even without injury (looks super strange as the muscles just twitch while they are lying still). So far no cause has been identified but it also doesn't seem to mean anything is wrong. I have noticed that the twitching often gets worse if there is pain or if the muscles are tired from exercise.

I had a stress fracture on tibia, the pain is no more now, but inflammation is there. What can I do to treat this inflammation
@SportsInjuryPhysio Жыл бұрын
The inflammation is part of the healing process. It is a sign that the tibia is still recovering - you need to continue with load management and strength training and cross training within limits of pain and not yet push it too hard. Do not take any medication to reduce the inflammation artificially (like ibuprofen or NSAIDs) - that can interfere with the quality of the healing process.

I’ve had a fibula stress fracture for over 2 years now and I can still feel tenderness and pain over the affected area, is this normal? or should I have it checked-up

Get it checked - it is not normal and there are devices that can help your bone regrow that your doctor can recommend.

i have a stress fracture right now and i waited for a month for it to be checked, which was stupid of me, and the doctor said that he could see the stress fracture on the xray. is this bad? And after the xray he gave me a boot and said to check up in 6 weeks
@SportsInjuryPhysio9 ай бұрын
If it is visible on xray, then it means that it has progressed to be a proper fracture. Make sure you look after it and follow his instructions carefully and all should be OK.
