The healing process depends on what you do, it depends on what you put into your system. It depends on what you do once you put those things into your system, that all can affect your healing rate. This video by Dr. Christopher Segler explains about how long before I can run with a stress fracture

Probably only my 2nd or 3rd comment on youtube but here we go. I was inspired to do so because this video offered a much realer approach on handling a stress fracture than anything I’ve seen thus far. I’ve been dealing with bilateral tibial stress fractures for three years. Have IM nail rods in both legs. Have been doing all I can to optimize this healing process with nutrition/supplements/bone stimulators but I am young and it’s hard to be patient. It’s hard to not know if I’m doing the right things. I am an athlete and seeing each basketball season pass by one after the next while I deal with this is grueling. It’s really videos like these that help me stay sane and focused on what I can do everyday. So thank you!

Thank you very much for this. I've suspect I've had mine for a while now and it keeps coming back after ANY impact activity (even high jumps etc) so it's turning into a long standing issue (along with some tingling in my toes too). I went to my doc and the physio there gave me a few exercises and sent me away. Should I be insisting on an MRI or ultrasound now? Also, does strapping help whilst running? Mine is not far above the ankle so figured I might be able to strap it.

Had a 5cm longitudinal stress fracture in my left tibial in April and was in a boot for 6 weeks. I did about 6 weeks of PT after but then I started having ankle and foot pain in the same leg. I recently had another MRI which fortunately confirmed no stress fracture in shin, ankle or foot... unfortunately the pain persist and its keeping me from running... I am extremely frustrated.

I just came back from my training, I'm a boxer, I do lots of roadwork(10km run), jumping ropes for 45 minutes to an hour and an hour of calisthenics. Since two days ago, I felt like there's a small dent in the middle of my tibia bone. It's not really excruciating, but I just felt there's a slight pressure on it. I'm starting to worry that it's a stress fracture. And now I'm depressed I can't train anymore. 😭😭😭

Hey Doc, i was diagnosed with a tibial stress fracture on MRI 5 months ago and i was feeling pain on one spot 1/3 of my tibia. İt has been 8 weeks and i am not feeling any pain and sensitiveness on that spot any more, is it correct time to start non impact exercises like cycling or rowing? ( I am a triathlete and i did superior care in my healing process and did everything correct but i am afraid if it's come back. ) Greetings from Istanbul 👋

Hello Okan, Thanks for watching and for sharing your experience. 5 months certainly seems like a very long time and I can only imagine how frustrated you might be at this point without significant levels of exercise. Did you ask the doctor who made your diagnosis whether or not it was appropriate for you to start exercising now? Unfortunately, I as a physician cannot advise you on whether or not it is the correct time to start exercises of any variety because I have not evaluated your injury or spoken to you to get your full history. I would never make a critical decision based on a limited amount of information. I always do one hour consultations with athletes in situations like yours. If you would like to block my calendar so we can discuss it in detail you can certainly do so here. www.docontherun.com/talk-to-the-expert/

I believe I have a medial tibial stress fracture, haven’t consulted a doctor as I completely agree with the last minute of the video. My pain started a week ago, walking is fine and a very and I mean very slow jog is fine but at an increased pace it hurts like hell. I’m pretty sure it’s a stress fracture as it’s in a single spot. It’s a very odd injury, and just like many people I just can’t sit around and do nothing. Are other form of cardio such as cycling okay? One other thing does anyone seem to see the pain completely go away during the night??

@@uscgirl214 tell me about it. It’s been almost 3 months since I got the injury and wrote this comment but I can pretty much say I’m fully recovered, however just like you I was going crazy at the fact that I literally couldn’t do anything. It was like that for a whole month, I didn’t even do any core or upper exercises because I was so depressed that I couldn’t run. It’s showing now as I’m struggling to get back to fitness. My only advice to you is don’t listen to false signals in your body because one month of not doing anything can prevent possibly months of injury. Also, try core and upper body workouts to try to maintain your fitness, but don’t put too much strain on your injury if you can. Good luck🤞

Hi, I play football and in the last part of the season I start to notice a bit of pain in the foot. I tried to play with it, but after 1-2 weeks it became to annoying. It never hurt a lot but it was always a little pain there. Stopped playing order and my physiotherapist ordered me an MRI. In the scan they found: Stress reaction in the medial sesamoid under the head of the 1st metatarsal. I have now been 5 weeks out. I started to step up my training a little bit with cycling and some strength training like squat and stuff a week ago. After I started with that I’ve been scared to feel the same pain. When I train now I don’t feel anything, but when I rest I constantly thinking about my foot and I think I feel some kind of pain, discomfort or numbness. Is that normal or is that not good? All I think about is to get back to the field and play football. Hope to get an answer🙏🏼

I had 5th metatarsal Jones fracture in my right foot on 5/11/2021. I approached orthopaedic doctor on 12/11/2021. He put my leg in raw plaster for 10 days first. Then afterwards put my leg in rigid slab plaster for 30 days. Now on 23/12/2021 my plaster is removed and after xray doctor told your fracture is healed 50% so you can walk normally on your foot and do your day to day duties and also join office. But after walking for some time I am getting swelling. Is it alright to walk normally without any support and without wearing any special orthopaedic shoes? By this my fracture will not get worst? My fracture will heal automatically with time during normal walking? Please guide me. Thanks a lot. 🙏🙏🙏 On coming Monday 3/1/2022 I have to join my office duty.

This is why I don't really trust family practitioners, because they learn a little of everything. Not specialize in a few things or one single thing. Which makes there diagnoses very generalized. Leading to misdiagnoses and/or poor treatment advice. Thankfully there are some doctors out there that don't have an ego that will advise you to see a specialist on matters there not knowledgeable about.
