I love theatre but I don't know if I'm in it for the right reasons. I don't care about being in the spotlight, fame or money. I just want to have those amazing experiences that come with participating in something so wild and whimsical as theatre. Is that a loose motivation? Because that's what I shoot for. Not just the spotlight (in fact, I don't much care for the spotlight at all) but the experience of being somebody, adapting to a scripted adventure, and living to tell the tale and enjoy the beauty of theatre throughout my life.

Okay so small storytime, I’m in a children’s theater place, have been there for about just over a year, and they do 3 shows each summer, and when I was in SpongeBob I was SO PREPARED. I listened to the entire soundtrack way too many times like 5 weeks before, and you wanna know what? I was squidward! One of my number one choices! And my director pulled me aside and told me, “hey Maxine, I just wanna tell you that on the first day you were amazing, you knew all the songs, the whole story, and really you would’ve been great as any character!” And I was SO happy, so yes, the number one point of being prepared is SO important, because in my case, I could’ve again, been anyone, SpongeBob, sandy, patrick, pearl, krabs, plankton, Karen or literally anyone! It’s just that squidward was the one that I just happened to get with that cast, if it were different people, then maybe I could’ve been SpongeBob, so yes, BE PREPARED, and like what’s even more shocking was that I’m on the younger side, I’m not going to say what I’m in but the place goes from grades 4 to 9, and I’m on the younger side, with like 9th and 8th graders also there it really shows, again, BE. PREPARED!!!

Even local theaters have reached out to help with our “musical theater program.” But our drama teacher said it is “too much work.” Even though she already has a DRAMA CLUB where she can do musicals. My band teacher even offered that our advanced band could do live orchestra. Idk. Just gonna have to stick with plays for now.

@@cayleejo UPDATE; I kept practicing and tried my best to be prepared for the worst… I ended up getting sick this weekend BUT THAT DIDNT STOP ME!!! I still went for the audition and I made the callback list!! Callbacks are tomorrow (I’ll have to sing A Cautionary Tale and read a bit of the script) and then the cast list will be put out friday. It’s between another girl in my grade and myself so there’s no senior priority there- which means I truly have a chance!! I wasn’t expecting it but man will I try hard!! (Even though i’m quite congested from my sickness..)

I am also a shaky person! Before I walk into the audition room I always "shake it out", jump around, shake each arm, each leg, take deep breaths, do whatever you can to get that pent up energy out of your body. But, if you still end up shaking a little it can also add to your character! Whether a character is angry, sad, or even incredibly happy, they make tremble with this feelings. Break a leg!

I think Sharpay is a great choice to aim for! Auditioning with her in mind will help remind you to keep your volume LOUD and your actions BIG, which a lot of people shy away from/accidentally forget in auditions. Break a leg at your audition! This is a super fun show to be apart of.

I'm a senior in high school, I feel like I'm very passionate about theatre. I want to eventually become an film actress, but obviously it's best to start on a stage. I've actually struggled to get casted in most shows I've auditioned for my whole high school career, and only have been in two. In which they were plays, and I've only had a few lines. Which still obviously counts as experience, I just wish I had better opportunities to get more experiences. Since I feel like I lack it compared to my classmates. However, THAT IS NOT GOING TO STOP ME!!! LOLOL Our spring musical is Mean Girls, a PERFECT show to end my high school career with. I've been excited about this show since they ANNOUNCED that they were going to do it, even more because people had doubted our teacher would even do a show like that! But at las I believed, and it came reality. I AM SOO EXCITEEDDDDDDD!!! Okay, so I originally would LOVE to do Regina George, I just feel like it would be so much fun to act like a spoiled brat who easily manipulates everyone on stage. But of course I cannot sing as high as her. But I feel like personality wise I would be a great Karen, so I'm auditioning for her. But even if I don't get casted, I DON'T CARE. BECAUSE YOU WILL SEE MY NAME ON THAT PLAYBOY. I WILL BE THE COSTUME DESIGNER. I haven't asked to be it yet, but if I do become the costume designer, it would be so much fun. And DUH experience because I also want a degree in fashion design. BTW I just really want to be in this show, no matter what. So, sorry for all that yapping.

@unpoetica hiii so this is an update! i auditioned, and i was cast ensemble in mean girls. tbf i messed up a bit in auditions but it’s okay! but when i tell you how horrible the cast list is, ITS BAD. it’s like the director picked blindly, bc tell me why regina george is a 8TH GRADER. the rest of us are high schoolers and most of us are seniors. and there is so much drama between the seniors, that they will literally tear her apart. i feel bad for her bc she’s definitely super excited, but shes going to regret it 😭 and i know i might sound jealous, but its not even that, in the show regina makes out with aaron, and our aaron is a whopping 18 YEARS OLD. that’s ILLEGAL and my director was already nervous for this show, he just made it worst by casting an 8th grader as one of the sexiest characters, like dude she’s not even fully developed yet, nor has she probably learned self love. this role is def gonna affect her big time

I will share that with Wizard of Oz your Wicked Witch will make or break your show. If you don’t have a believable villain (in that ICONIC role) it is really rough to believe the rest of the story. My school is doing Tuck Everlasting this year. Which kind of sucks because we have pretty large department of mostly girls. It has 11 roles, 4 are female, 6 are male, and one is a carnival worker with two lines. Long story short, I got the carnival worker as a first-year theater kid (even over students who played main characters last year) because I was the only one to give the give the character a personality. I did a cartwheel (unprompted) and let my natural accent shine through. They also gave opportunities to try out for other roles in the show at the last-minute. I knew I’d probably suck because I’m not a super strong singer and I had no prep but I tried anyway and I was also told that helped.

real, in our shows the school year before them we do a dance from the next musical for next year after our musical (sorry if that’s confusing) but they literally so obviously precast the shows a YEAR before because they give the kids the main roles a year before for a snippet then cast them as the same thing the next year for the actual thing

Going to the wardrobe, this is something I picked up from my improv troupe, and it's that I always wear black. Undetailed black outfit that's easy to move in. It's not super professional, but it lets people almost imagine you in any outfit. And during improv shows, that functions to let the audience see you with any costume. I am not even in high school yet and I am auditioning for a school of rock theatre musical and I am so nervous but I am confident. This has helped me a lot! And it has happened that I have seen an agent/panel judge before. I went to a coffee shop and the agent came in. it started raining so my family helped her with our umbrella! She saw me in the room afterwards and recognised me. 😊 I didn’t get an agent but I learned something 😢😅 this video has helped a lot!

I have always been cast as narrators and I’m really sick of it. But now I am auditioning for killer queen( main role villan) and I’m really worried my friends ( or people in my year ) are going to laugh at me behind my back. I am also going against 2 drama captains and I’m so worried it’s in four days ( Tuesday) and I have to memorise it or I can’t audition for the role. I just had my lamda exam yesterday and soon the auditions. Idk if I’m going to get laughed at or freeze so I’m freaking out. I am in year 6 and i have been trying to find comments to calm my nerves. @@gianna526 so it went well but I didn’t get the role and one of the drama captains (my best friend) got it instead. And the other drama captain got the role she went for. When I found out I cried because I got a small role but it ended up being really fun and I got a solo and would do anything to perform it again! I had to wear an itchy wig though lol

hiii i love your videos! quick question: when im performing my monologue/song do i maintain eye contact with the judges or look ahead

This is a great question! In general I would never maintain eye contact with the panel while auditioning with your song or monologue - this can just become a little uncomfortable/unnerving as someone sitting on the other side of the table. BUT, I do highly suggest that you determine who your character is singing to and decide where they are in the room. For example, if they're singing to a parent maybe that parent is standing just behind the judge's table, so THAT is the point that you're making eye contact with/directing movements towards. I hope that helps!

@@greenneko8020 ohhh my acting auditions were very different.. she chose what characters we were acting for and gave us a new script I didn’t get to act as the character I wanted to.. I did go back for an extra session and got the one I wanted but only two lines.. I do think I did pretty well though I’m hoping to get the second character I wanted (which I did get to act quite a bit for) singing auditions were fine I came prepared with three songs expecting to do two but the were extremely behind so they had me only do one line of one and ushered me out.. I was told by a student later that me and another person were the two best freshman who sang so that was really sweet, I also got personally congratulated later on by two of the people hosting the auditions that was also pretty great.. my character announcement comes in in two days so I can dream! lol

I’ve been practicing my singing and I’ve listened to recordings of me and idk. I love theater and have auditioned for a few roles, I can say that my school does not give us the script for our auditions until the day of, we get a bit of time to practice, and then we go into our auditions, one of mine I tried to do a southern accent and sounded vaguely British and then my second and latest audition I fell on my knee a few times and injured it so I was limping and struggling on the stairs for a week after. It’s safe to say that I didn’t any roles so far
