I would for sure use the door from the us barrel stove kit. A damper for the chimney. Might need legs for the back half in case of a tip back. A bottom door for a ash clean out but line the bottom so it don't rust out? Not too sure where to add a draft opening. Door gasket rope for under the pan.

I guess the durock is heat resistant but I think there are better options. Don’t want to ruin another zipper lol.😊

Im curious if the insulating material will crumble in the heat. Some of those use plastic netting like rebar in structures. Oh well that question will be answered after you use it.

I think that works like a siberian Schalschlik-Grill. You can grill lots of meat on long skwers, minced with onion and paprika.

So what if you put a plate half way across and half way up the firebox fixed to the door side and another at the top attached to the exhaust side, again half way across. Seems that would cause heat build up and force it to weave through the plates. Kind of like some do on smoker grills to build up the heat and extend it further out on the grilling surface. Just spitballing here ! 😀 Good luck !

I can’t help but worry that it would tip over on the chimney end. Would granite offcuts help insulate? I got one that I use as a bread/pizza stone in the oven and only charged the cost of one cut to fit. Was a bathroom vanity offcut - over an inch thick.

There will be legs at the flue end. I should have said that. Not sure about granite. 🤔

I'm not sold on the Duroc, I don't think it would last and is not that heat resistant, Ceramic fiber insulation is not that expensive. That's what is used in kilns, Make sure you have an air inlet for the fire besides being open above

@@gardenfork Another easy alternative is Rockwool comforboard (not comfortbatt) insulation. It's about 1.5 inches thick and insulates heat very well. It will dry out over a few years unless you put some thin ceramic fibre overtop of it...but it's fairly cheap.. I built my first file cabinet evaporator inspired by your first one.. (Thank you!). Use the insulation to decrease the gap between the pan and the ramp to about 2 inches, maybe down to 1.5 right at the back.. this will help force the heat onto the pans...

There will be a flue and damper. The pipe that appears in the video is the flue.
