I've been smoking pipe tobacco since 2015 and have found my ultimate tobacco to be Cornell & Diehl's Haunted Bookshop. Hi, I just started smoking pipes a few years ago. I’m trying lots of different tobacco types and blends. I keep an Excel spreadsheet of the tobaccos I’ve tried. I’m up to 67 now. I rate the tobaccos as you suggested, 1-5. I use your blend club, top ten lists from websites and pipe shops availability. Every time I think I know what I like something else comes along to make me rethink my “favorites.” I have a long way to go. It’s quite an adventure. Happy piping.

I just want to mention another aspect I do consider very important, at least for me, and that is the perception of people around me through aroma, that alone had already helped me to change the preconception of several people that tobacco in any form is awful and unhealthy no matter what. For that regard, my ultimate tobacco so far is Mac Baren Original Choice. I know I know, for sure, there are better options, please let me know about . I haven't had a lot of variety yet. Thank You Muttnchop for all the effort and time you put in this channel

I enjoy the Blending Tobaccos at P&T to get a feel for the individual tobaccos alone before mixing my own blend. #1. Dark Fired Kentucky (My Favorite, most flavorful/spicy/bbq/nic & CHEAP, great alone) #2. Latakia (campfire/leather) #3. Perique (fermented socks 😆but it’s good!) + Bulk Aromatics 1. Lane 1Q (think of Levi Garrett chaw) 2. Lane TK6 (light cherry/vanilla) Mix YOUR favorites together too!!

I have been smoking pipes for about 7 years now and definitely have found what I consider to be my "daily driver" so to speak. There is a local shop that sells what they call a Detective Blend, it's mostly English with a small amount of Virginia and a slight vanilla casing. What an out of this world blend, I would definitely recommend it.

This video gave me a lot to think about. I really appreciated it. Going back to the mid-1970s when my brother gave me my first pipe I mostly smoked either Amphora or Borkum Riff. Mostly Borkum Riff…probably because they had the best commercials. Right now I measure the “ultimate pipe tobacco” by which one I continue to want to repurchase. Those are Escudo Navy Deluxe, Peterson’s Irish & University Flake. And now after trying it as part of this years Muttnchop pipe club, Peterson’s Elizabethan Mixture. My favorite hands down tobacco is Dunhill’s London Mixture (no longer in production) but I still have two unopened tins and one in mason jar that are older than me. My hope is that through your pipe club that I find the ultimate aromatic. Thanks again 😊

Been pipe smoking for over a decade now and I’ll be honest I am still exploring all the wonderful pipe tobacco blends out there. My overall favorite tobacco is JM Boswells Northwoods but a very close second would be LJ Peretti Tashkent. Loving the new backdrop Mutton Chop and for all if you talking about aftertaste the best way to get rid of that is Tim’s Cascade Jalapeño potato chips. Just me it works. I once was on one of my cigar walks and finished my cigar a strong full body La Gloria Cubana series R . Never fails I had that aftertaste but I was hungry and all I had with me was the for mentioned Tim’s snack size bag . lo and behold the aftertaste of the cigar was gone. I only had the Jalapeño taste in my mouth but that’s nothing a beer couldn’t handle 😉

Great video as always! Entertaining, educating, thought provoking. I’m on the beginning of my pipe journey, but while I like some aromatics, they tend to lack of strength. I wanted something with a strength of the Elizabethan, but with milder flavor infusions than a typical aromatic. So I blended Royal Yacht with a pinch of Cult, Stanwell Vanilla and Dan’s Da Vinci and voila: I found my favorite.

Although I enjoy many good aromatics, I never really find myself craving a bowlful like I do for many non-aros. I therefore have deduced that I'm more of a English-type lover. However, I've recently discovered an appreciation for some codger blends, which strike me as sort of an in between category. They are generally burley blends with a light topping.casing, which I wouldn't say is strong enough to make them an aromatic. So many blends, so little time to try/enjoy them all! (I'm still trying to figure out how many year's worth of tobacco I've cellared in only the past 9 months or so!)

Aros & English tobaccos do not cellar well and lose their flavor more over time than say a non-pro Virginia or Virginia blend do. many intermediate pipers prefer Virginias and they cellar very well. An example would be Luxury twist flake from Peter Stokkebye among many others and M.C. has had videos on those in past videos.

I’m a cigar man who started exploring pipes a year ago because of Steve Saka’s Stillwell Star cigars. I love his English and his Navy. I’m loving exploring blends and I’m not settled with an ultimate, but I do know I favor English blends and cigar leaf blends. I love Presbyterian and Blackpoint, and I love Robusto and Key Largo. I love your video work and frankly, you made it possible to figure these dang pipes out!

I too started on cigars oddly enough. I prefer Maduro or Candela wrappers with Mexico or Nicaraguan fillers. Saint Espresso is probably the best aro I've tried in a long time. I told my mom I needed to get more, and the next day, Smokingpipes ran out. They should have it as a permanent fixture. I, too, like "English" blends more, as well as Cigar based blends, I personally like Country Lawyer, but have yet to try Bankers or 123 Mixture, which I am planning on with my new Briar Cigar. If you want a Cigar type nicotine rush, get some Gawith Hoggarth Black Irish Rope or their Brown Rope, both are good but pricy.

Been smoking my pipe since 1996. I have three local pipe shops that I shop at, and I've tried many different types. But my favorite by far is sold by the very first shop I ever went in, an aromatic butter rum blend. It's one of their custom blends (a ribbon cut), and nothing I've ever tried even comes close to how smooth and flavorful it is. Drinking a glass of good Scotch alongside it is one of my true pleasures.
@ozfifer7392
@ozfifer7392 Жыл бұрын
Mine has to be Gawith Hoggarth Black Irish Rope. Preferably, it's precut, but I occasionally like the whole rope. It's got a taste of charred steak and is very wet, I do recommend drying it before smoking because if you don't, you will be relighting all week. But if you can muster the relighting procedure, it's quite nice. Heavy on the nicotine and even smells charred because it is a fired Virginia. The end of a bowl will make even seasoned veterans of the pipe woozy. I also suggest that if you get this tobacco , you dedicate a pipe to it, as it does ghost very badly, and preferably a pipe with a filter or a Peterson System pipe. It is pricy though. The same goes for my 2nd favorite blend called War Horse Green. It's a plug, and it smells like potpourri, but it has a rich flavor. It is fairly well priced. Or if you don't like strong blends, I suggest my 3rd favorite, Orlik Golden Sliced. Quite a fresh flavor and little to no aftertaste. It is priced well enough but is still a touch too expensive If you like Aromatics instead, then I suggest Stanwell Melange. It's a subtle blend and burns well, requires little to no dry time, and it has a pleasant aftertaste. It has a very agreeable price. P.s. to Muttn, price is also a factor. If a blend is too expensive for a mediocre taste, let alone a bad one, then it's not really worth it other than to say you've tried it. Yet, if a blend is highly priced but has a great quality to it, then someone may come back for more. If a blend is well priced and has a great quality to it, then it is certainly worth it, even if pipe tobacco costs peanuts compared to cigars, let alone cigarettes, price is a huge deciding factor.

Hello muttnchop i hace developed a tip, when i am throwing out old tins i keep paper as i find tobacco is more authentic when it is stored in paper and glass, when stored in metal and plastic it looses breathability and takes on properties of the storage material. This is why glass and mainly the frilly papers hold it so well as it breaths and remains something you want to smokr wjile reading. It smells more like we are still in the golden age of pipe smoking. Also i like your colour scheme today really sets the mood for pipe smoking.

My ultimate tobacco at the moment comes down to Hunting Creek from the country Squire (Northwest Trek from there is 1c) and Countryside from Boswells. Both are ribbon, with the perfect moisture level. Both stay lit and burn cool and even. Very few relights with a taste that i absalutely crave. The winner 1a is Hunting Creek with Countryside as 1b. I started with aromatic blends and enjoyed black cavandish for years. Nowadays, after 30 years of smoking pipes, I enjoy a straight up ,no nonsense blend. Rustica was my all day smoke. Peterson Irish Flake is good too.

I've been smoking for about 14 years now, and normally have about 30 different types in my rotation -- I explore quite a bit. For my ultimate I'd have to say Cornell & Diehl "Cordial", bought in bulk (from what I hear, the tinned version isn't as good, not sure what's going on there). If I feel like an aromatic: Rich's "Alder Street" (located in PDX). I smoke a lot of lat-bombs, but I rotate those so much I don't have an "ultimate blend". Almost any Balkan or rich English with a focus on Latakia hits that spot for me.

Thanks muttonchop. You have been my mentor since I first picked up a pipe a few years ago. I have probably 30 or 40 blends in the cellar. In regards to an ultimate blend I can’t pick just one. I have two. I only smoke about two bowls a week and usually one after the other on sundays. My favorite blend combo is to smoke a bowl of briar fox followed by a bowl of quiet nights. Anytime I want I can pick a new blend to try to go along with one of those blends. So long as I have one of those I always feel satisfied. But the two together is my ultimate.

Thank you for these points to ponder when identifying a preferred tobacco. I am very new to the pipe smoking subject. Up until now,I've only smoke around a dozen tobaccos and I have been able to establish a few tobaccos that I can do without. Pipesmoking has been rather nebulus experience for me. I have had tongue bite from mellow tobacco and not with some of the more bold ones. Very strange to me! But my favorite so far has been Nightcap through a beater corn cob pipe. To me Nighcap so good that I have trouble comprehending that the odds are that there is probably many more that I'll prefer even more. It tastes good and has been a low-maintenance smoke for me. I find myself craving it just about daily. That's all that I can really say so I think I'll live in the Latakia blends for a while. I can't seem to get into most of the aromatics. Blood Red Sky has been the only one I've not disliked but I think it gives me heartburn so I refain. Anyway,, thank you for this guide!

As a new pipe smoker I thought I would love the aromatics but I struggled to get any flavour. I wanted to like them but nearly quit as it’s just hot air to my very basic palate! I was just talked into trying C&D Pirate Kake which I would have been scared to try. I really like it and I’m now back to being positive about pipe smoking. Any veteran advice on tobaccos to try that are in the same ballpark would be greatly appreciated! Thanks YTPC!

In 2020 I took up pipe smoking. Being a relative newcomer to the hobby I haven’t tried many varieties as of yet. The first blend I tried was Captain Black Original, which is still my top favorite. A close second is SuperValue Bourbon Whiskey, which was recommended in Blend Club some time ago. Recently I tried Stokkebye Proper English and that has been my go-to for several weeks. On average I only have two or three pipes per week because of my busy schedule. All three are ribbon cut and don’t require much effort to keep lit. I thoroughly enjoy smoking those blends. The next one I want to try is Boswell’s Northwoods. Earlier this year I bought a tin of Peterson EMP and so far it doesn’t seem to agree with me. Near the end of the bowl I find myself feeling lightheaded and on one occasion it was bad enough that I had to sit down for twenty minutes. If anyone is willing to attempt an explanation I would appreciate the input. For now, EMP will be cellared until further notice. Chris, I greatly appreciate and enjoy your content. Thank you for your efforts. May God bless you.

If you had to sit down it was the nicotine level. Smoke more and you'll adapt so that only the strongest blends will kick your butt like brown bogie. Or don't, probably healthier for ya haha.

been smoking a pipe since around 2008 though a few of those years were off and on. My ultimate tobacco is probably capstan blue ready rubbed. It's one that I always find myself going back to and after a wile with other blends, smoking a bowl of it feels like returning home. It's a bit expensive to smoke all the time though so my normal goto blend is PS84 turkish or PS400 navy flake

I like all the blends I have tried, I like some of the plugs and flakes and some of Peterson blends. But, so far I haven’t found anything that I like better than Captain Black Royal. 7seas Royal and Petersons Royal Yacht are getting close. I’m not much on Prince Albert, but I do enjoy the Early Morning pipe and Irish Cask from Peterson.

I can't really say that I can name just one, "top", tobacco blend for myself. Just depends on the mood I'm in really. However, I can probably narrow it down to a couple, based on what I've traditionally found myself in the mood for the most. Those two blends would be John Alesbury's Luxury Flake, for when I'm in a brighter mood, and Smoker's Haven Exotique Mixture, for when I'm in a darker mood. Honorable Mention - Second Breakfast from The Country Squire. I wouldn't say this is a, "top", blend either. It's just a great, all around traditional and pleasant aromatic smoke for me. Not chemically or overbearing with the flavoring. It contains high quality tobaccos for an aromatic and just has a great, almost quintessential room note that even non-smokers can instantly recognize and usually find quite pleasant, in my experience. Cheers 🥃

I'm cautious about naming a favourite as I've had many over the years and the suppliers discontinue it; so the original Bells Three Nuns (in discs) was discontinued, Then Larsens No32 Curly Flake, then Exmoor Hunt. Now my go to is Peterson's Balkan Mixture (although it's not actually a Balkan) and I have Nightcap and St Bruno also in rotation.

I'm too new to pipe smoking to have an ultimate tobacco at this point, since I've only been smoking a pipe for a year (though I have smoked cigarettes for the past 25 years), but the one tobacco I could smoke all day every day is Peter Stokkebye #38 Highland Whiskey. It's a ribbon cut bulk aromatic but very lightly cased and the flavor of the tobacco really takes center stage with a subtle whiskey topping just barely lingering in the background. The moisture level is always goldilocks and it smokes cool and dry, with no tongue bite at all even if you freight train it and the retrohale is soft and gentle on the nose. It's got a nice medium nicotine strength and is just all around very satisfying to me. =)
