I'm also very excited to see what kind of different Europe I'll encounter while traveling by AVE! I'd say Madrid is a good base as you can travel by train quite easily from there, as well as domestic flights or coaches. The intercity trains are quite comfortable with entertainment/WiFi, food to purchase (or free in first class) and comfortable seats.

Just spent two weeks in Spain and went from Barcelona to Sevilla. #1 complain of mine is the Spanish attitude, shortness, and some nastiness. I had always heard about French attidude towards tourists, but I have to say Spaniards, for now, hold the #1 position. It got so bad I wanted to leave at the end of week one. We didn't and kept going, but it took its toll on our overall mood about this trip. (It was bad enough, I will put this opinion on any Spanish travel blog/video I see!)
@GregorBrown11 ай бұрын
Sorry to hear about the negative experiences in Spain, that can be tough. It's surprising how attitudes can vary, even in such beautiful places. Hopefully, your overall trip had some bright spots despite the challenges. If you ever decide to share your feedback on Spanish travel blogs or videos, it might help others navigate their journeys better. Wishing you smoother travels in the future!
@Equilibrium2911 ай бұрын
@GregorBrown Thanks. Since I was prepared for it, the second week went smooth. I just grinned at them, shook my head, and moved on. Problem was, I was just not ready for it. I think vlogers, such as you, could prepare people for this. Also, it was mostly in high tourist saturated areas where I came across the bad attitude. 5-10 km away, it was fine. I still would not tell people not to visit Spain, I would just try to prepare them.
@alfredosenalle928411 ай бұрын
Unfortunately , a lot of that has to do with the way many tourists are nasty themselves and treat the locals. Some locals then treat all tourists the same way.

If you visit the wrong cities, you might not get exactly what you were hoping for. Barcelona, in particular, has become a nightmare for both tourists and locals. On the other hand, if you head to Madrid and the smaller cities inland or the Atlantic coast, everything is much more relaxed, as there are fewer tourists.

Only thing I’d disagree with is the pulling out of cash. Large amounts just makes you a target. Everywhere accepts card now and if you’re travelling you should get an os card such as Revolut. No fees to use the card and much cheaper to take out cash - some ATMs no charge. Have saved us a ton rather than using our Australian cards :)

The packing light thing... I will be there for 1 month in November through December. So I will need warmer clothes, more layers, and bigger shoes. Plus I run and need my running shoes. Finally as a woman, we just have more different kinds of outfits. So I don't know if I need to worry about being so efficient as to fit everything in a carry-on roller bag and backpack. I will have my base in Barcelona the whole time. When I visit other cities it will be for 1 or 2 days only and most of things will remain in the room I am renting in Barcelona. I do plan to pack light just maybe not THAT light. What do you think?

I'd get it down to one backpack and a check in bag. Save space for things you'll buy along the way

@@GregorBrown Thanks! So far, I am pretty much packed and I only have a single 35 lb/15.8 kg checked bag. There is still plenty of room for things I may purchase there. The only thing I still need to pack is my laptop and a few travel essentials and snacks which I will add to a backpack. I think I am doing super well. :-D Aaand I managed to pack 1 pair of boots, 2 sneakers, 1 pair of loafers.

@@GregorBrown Thank you so much! I cut down a lot (but not the boots lol) But I am here in L'Exiample and things are going great. Thank you for your content. It really helped me prepare. Traveling from DC to Barcelona by way of Madrid with a train to BCN (becuz that was cheaper than direct DC-BCN air) was hard enough without lugging a heavy medium sized checked bag. 😀

I have a question we plan to go in March 2025 and we really want to go into the countryside and visit the little towns do you recommend renting a car or taking a train for this activities? and also where do you recommend us to stay at if we are to be wandering around like that? would you recommend staying in Madrid since it’s in the middle of spain?

I'm in Spain again at the moment! I would rent a car because it's not that much money to rent a car in Spain. It gives you a lot of freedom. I would suggest that you stay in hotels or Airbnbs in the different towns as you explore, because it will really open your eyes to Spain that way.

Hello. My daughter and I will be doing a 7 day drip to Spain in the later part of August next year. We will be heading there from France via train, then heading to Portugal. We are not fans of museums and the city area but prefer hikes, waterfalls and beaches. However we also want spend at least a day in Barcelona and Madrid. What would be a good itinerary? Any assistance provided would really help. Also what would be nice is if the average cost for transport around Spain, food and entertainment could be provided in a vlog. This would help others in planning their trip. Thanks so much for reading my comment.
@GregorBrown11 ай бұрын
Hello! Your Spain trip sounds fantastic. Considering your preferences for hikes, waterfalls, and beaches, and wanting to spend a day each in Barcelona and Madrid, it might be a good idea to adjust your itinerary a bit. Both Barcelona and Madrid have a lot to offer and ideally require at least 3 days each to truly experience what they bring. You may need to replan your itinerary when visiting the other towns or perhaps skip one of the cities to fully enjoy your preferred activities. Transport costs in Spain can vary depending on the mode of travel. I'll consider including details about average costs for transport, food, and entertainment in a future vlog, as that could indeed be helpful for others planning their trips. Thanks for the suggestion and for reaching out! Safe travels and have a wonderful trip with your daughter! 🇪🇸✈️🌊🏞️🚆

Absolutely, spending 4 days each in Barcelona and Madrid with day trips from these bases is a great plan. It gives you ample time to explore the richness of each city while also allowing for adventures in the surrounding areas. Plus, you get the benefit of settling into one hotel in each city, which means less time packing and more time enjoying your trip. Happy travels! 🇪🇸🏙️✈️🌍
