4K is just a decision factor on screens larger than 48" (depending of course on distance) and 4K is 4 times the resolution of 1080p, but being honest a well recorded 1080p in a Sony Alpha 7 footage is better than a cheap camera that records on 4K. 1080 is just fine, especially for KZbin channels. Start making videos in 4K resolution when you are eventually forced to upgrade camera and laptop for other reasons, don’t buy them just so you can produce in 4K. My iMac has been going 10 years and I’m only now thinking about changing it as it’s no longer getting updates, I bet you can hold up on changing your laptop for a while.

4K video wont make sense for youtubers like Daniel until some years. Almost half of desktop monitors around the world are 1080p or 720p. Phones don't have 4k screens. 4k requires very fast internet connection and a lot of data so people with slower internet or using data plans on phones will not benefit at all. 4K on KZbin is quite hardware demanding. Even dedicated GPUs from 4 years ago may struggle with YT VP9 codec , even when they can play 4K o 8k videos flawlessly from sources using other codecs. It would make sense if your content is documentaries or series that people may want to watch on a tv, tho.

I've had my Macbook Pro for 8 years. I considered upgrading 2 years ago when I got a job promotion but I forgot about it and still haven't upgraded. It is a bit heavy compared to newer models but it's the newest model without soldered parts so as long as the motherboard doesn't die I can just replace parts. And it sits on my desk 90% of the time anyway. Why spend a few grand for a marginally better experience if I don't need to?
@nicegy01974 жыл бұрын
The need for 4K really depends on the content you're presenting, otherwise it's a waste of time and resources. Do people really need to see everything in 4K, or just things that require lots of detail? DIYs, nature footage, and CG animation can benefit from 4K. Podcasts, vlogs, 2D animation, etc. don't need to go beyond 1080p (or even 720p).

I feel like arguing that 2D animation benefits from the 4K treatment, but the fact is 1080p animation outshines most 4K live action in terms of brightness and sharpness since the animator is in full control of every single element on screen. The same goes for CG; there are first year GameCube titles that hold up better than some triple-A PS3 games because the developers knew how to squeeze results out of that graphics processor and through the composite video output.

Melvin Joosten There’s definitely a fidelity difference between videos shot in 4K sourced video that’s downsampled to 1080p vs 1080p native sources, but not enough for average consumers to care. Ive never thought “Gee, Im distracted by this low resolution footage because it’s not in 4K”. What you’re trying to do there is justify your financial commitment to 4K content when you can get 90% of the experience for much less. You’re just buying into the 4K marketing BS and no doubt paying extra for the luxury - even though most content is streamed nowadays so it’s heavily compressed compared to the original source anyway. To the CC, You’d be much better off with good, studio quality lighting and a solid backdrop. You’ve got great content and clean B-Roll, the beauty of Minimalism is just giving people something to think about. The sickness is that we have been marketed this idea that whatever is wrong in your life there's a product or service you can buy to alleviate it. If that didn't make you happy, this new or other thing to purchase surely will! We've been steered away from thinking about our lives and the meaning of it, what we actually value.. I would think that for many people it would be basic safety (food, health, lodging), meaningful social relationships, pursuing fulfilling creative endeavours (not just to turn them to "side hustle"), enjoying nature, helping other people, seeking truth and wisdom, learning new skills, etc.. Many of these are being commodified (companies want you to pay for them).

If there is or are such item, then consider to buy that item instead of the costlier one. 4. If it's not a primary need item, and I don't really need it and just want it. Games didn't nickel and dime you with microtransactions, you weren't besieged by ads at the beginning of games or during load screens. Games started when you loaded them in, most games had no load times, in fact when the Xbox360 and PS3 were announced we were told there would be virtually no load times. I know when I bought Naruto for my PS4 I put it in and I literally went and made lunch before it was playable, now that's the average. The only thing good about the games today is they're prettier to look at, that doesn't make them better. The majority of games are sequels now, how many new properties have you played lately? Most games even all play the same. Every FPS has the same load of 1 handgun, 1 rifle, 1 shotgun, 1 machine gun, grenades and usually a RPG. It's rare to get a new weapon that does something creative. Red Faction: Armageddon had some of the most creative gunplay and that was in 2011. Motorstorm came out in 2006 and had the most intricately detailed car models, where you could see the individual screws and gears in wrecks. Next gen has basically the same controls and the graphics will look better but I have plenty to keep me occupied if they can't come up with something to wow me.
@gavinderulo124 жыл бұрын
@@Player_Zhirow I completely disagree. The witcher 3, arkham knight, god of war, red dead redemption 2, metro exodus, control, star wars jedi fallen order, the last of us, ghost of tsushima, sekiro, horizon zero dawn, MGS 5, SOMA, Nier Automata. These are all amazing games that are much better than similar games that came before. I know that there is a lot of garbage out there, but that has been the case in every era of gaming, we just remember the good ones though. The games that are full of microstransactions are games that don't interest me anyways. The load times are due to games being larger and more graphically demanding than ever, its just a hardware limitation and nothing you can fault the devs for. It's like demanding our airplanes to fly at the speed of light eventhough nothing with mass is able to reach that speed. Its just not possible right now. Also, its funny that you mentioned red faction Armageddon as I recently bought that game on steam, and it is as generic of a shooter as I've ever seen one. Its almost nostalgic in a way as it reminds me of the huge amount of generic 3rd person shooters that released around 2010. If you want a truly unique shooter (at least story wise) then play Spec ops the line. For unique gameplay play Control.
@Player_Zhirow4 жыл бұрын
@@gavinderulo12 Spec ops had a good story, but it was a one and done, I've known people they've played it and we all agree it's good, I havent met anyone that's replayed it. That's the sign of a good Hanne, do you want to replay it. I'm not sure how Red Faction was generic, there's a black hole gun with its own gravity field and you must play different games then I do because other then Fortnight, which does it worse, I havent played a shooter with nanotechnology disentegration and rebuilding on the fly. The most innovation I've seen in a shooter is Titan Fall which nailed parkour FPS and the ability to enter mechs on the fly. You don't even need a mech to take out a mech, that's how well balanced the innovation is. Also your list proves my point, of the games you named, I think 4 weren't sequels. No innovation literally at all. I said they were prettier, that doesn't make them better, Arkham Knight was prettier then the other 3 Batman games but it was a slog and the worst in the series. They even managed to make the Bat mobile tedious, how do you even do that?? I can fault the devs plenty, your giving them a pass. I've played a ton of fun and creative indie games that had low to virtually zero load times. No one asked for all these overly long open world games that require so much loading, how about make better games? Or optimize better? Should I believe it's a hardware limitation when you can literal change the graphics in Halo the Masterchief edition on the fly in game from original to modern graphics near instantaneously? Come on man, your letting a lot of flash and dazzle convince you that you don't deserve better, games are $60 (soon to be $70)a pop, and that's just to get the base edition, not the full game usually (aka the ultimate edition) I don't know about you but I don't have money to waste on something that looks nice and doesnt entertain our isn't complete. At least add some clever game mechanics, look at the assassins creed series, you went from a stealth action strategy game where you could blend in to a walking tank that barely has any stealth, what's innovative and new since assassins 3 where they introduced trees you can run in, that hasn't been a staple since or ships in 4 which made a great pirate simulator but a crappy assassins game. What's come out in the last 2 years that's been innovative? Shadow of Mordor literally had broken texture sharers that required a patch. That's how it was shipped?! The textures literally didn't load on surfaces until a patch. Even the last of us 2 is just more of the same, it just looks better. Also Control had ALOT of problems. It's also Hellaunbalanced and the final fight is trash to be completely honest.

What initially made me click was the title, and I kept watching because of the content. 1080p is absolutely okay and I would say you didn't need to upgrade your computer or camera yet, but looks like you did that anyway. Bought an iPhone 8+ 2nd hand last year Will be buying a galaxy s9 2nd hand soon (need a 2ndary phone) I could say I'm a tech enthusiast and i deeply am amazed by advancement made by smartphones so whenever my favorite YT reviewers post their vids, I really want to try them out, too and imagine myself buying one. Although, my work can afford buying flagships. But there's always that notion of buying items that are too expensive of their own good. That what we buy are just gimmicks (not necessarily useless but not essential, as well) that's why here I am, scavenging 2nd hand phones (which are all pristine, btw) Thanks for this vid! I've been drunk confused about my decisions and options lately. This was a much needed eye opener 👍

As a KZbinr for a different channel I feel the same way. In photography you're expected to keep upgrading cameras and gain more and more lenses & equipment...its a very expensive job. My 2012 macbook I had second hand broke after 5 years and I ended up getting a ipad to replace it. The upgrade cost less than a macbook and has given me much joy. Those are the happy moments, when something costs less when you need to upgrade. With the phones side, I used to upgrade every year because my phones were very cheap and didn't last long at all. Now I'm buying mid range phones they last me longer but aren't hitting some key things that I crave. I'm also a shopaholic which doesn't help things!! I enjoyed your video though :)

I do agree with the sentiment here, and I fully understand the feeling of joy when purchasing a new item that quickly fades after a few days, however the initial feeling of joy isn't the reason I upgrade. After that feeling fades, I'm left with a product that has improved my life and doesn't have me wanting more, I look for the right upgrade to make sure that it has everything I actually want so that when I buy it, I won't have the feeling that I need a further upgrade. This leads me to upgrade infrequently, as I already have what I want and I'll keep it until it's broken. For me, that means that the cost when I upgrade is high as I will purchase the product that ticks all the boxes, but it keeps me happy for a very long time so in the long run it works out. If I buy the latest and greatest tech at the time, it will easily last me 4+ years. I'm a PC gamer where some of my components such as Power Supply, Case, Fans, Screen & peripherals are about 10 years old and my CPU & motherboard 7+ years old (X58 6 core). They still do what they are meant to do, so I do not need to upgrade them. The same goes for phones, especially nowadays where most phones are peaking to the point where top tier ticks all the boxes quite easily. I don't buy clothes or any other material things very often as what I have is perfectly fine. This means that because of the items I've chosen to buy, I can easily keep up with today's standards but never do I have to upgrade on a regular basis. The problem I used to have was I would budget more, and buy the product that would save me money in the short term. This would end up meaning that I would need an upgrade sooner as I was never really happy with the item in the first place and I cut corners because of affordability. By buying the item that ticks all the boxes in the first place, I don't ever feel the need to upgrade it as I've truly got what I wanted.

Yes! I've find that holding off upgrading for "when I can afford it" (which for me means: buy outright) also functions as a motivator to do better. I would only argue/suggest to realise what upgrades will affect your physical health, ie: if you are a runner you NEED to upgrade (or simply replace) your shoes before you might think. In my case I was like: oh the sole is not even worn on this side... which means I accentuated a bad posture and caused more damage to my joints than what would have been upgrading.

I started doing this awhile ago to pay off a loan and an overdraft that I was 'trapped' in, and also to pay off any long-term monthly contracts I had. I'm now down to just one monthly contract of only £16, which is the only expense that leaves my bank (excluding rent/utilities). The amount of money I've saved by not upgrading needlessly and cutting down on material items has definitely improved my mental health.

I also often thought about getting a new iPhone, just because I had the mindset that the newer ones always were a little better even if I don’t need the extra power or features, but this video made it really clear why it is not necessary if the old one still works perfectly and still can handle all the daily tasks that I’m doing with the device. The marketing strategies of corporations these days are really good when it comes to selling you something that you don't actually need.
