Omg dude this is the best lesson/beginner/video I have ever seen on Any subject, but especially welding. I would give it 10 out of 5 stars if I could. 😁 I have also watched your video on setting up the torch for beginners and not using fancy cups etc to get a pretty weld, but learn to get a proper strong weld with basic gear that will show all imperfections. These videos give The Best no bs info out there. 👊👍👊👍 You are the only person I ever want to learn from, you are the Best teacher, I wish I lived in your country so I could take your course. I have done a community college welding course but tig was only a small part of it and that teacher didn't demonstrate or even explain ANY of the many lessons you just gave in one short video. THANKYOU so much. I finally have a welder, and can't wait to be able to take part in your weld with me live streams. I won't bore you with the details, but I had access to a 15amp power source, so I saved to buy a bigger/better welder that has a 15amp plug, but no longer have access to said power source. But as soon as I get that sorted out, I know I will now be at least 12 months ahead of the learning curve if all I had was the lack of information I got from that course I did, because all the practice in the world wouldn't have helped me improve at all with the knowledge I Thought I had learnt. I know stick and mig aren't your thing, but with your teaching skills I bet I would learn 10 times more from you than that crap course that focused on those 2 disciplines, even if you haven't done either of them in 20+ years.... any chance you would ever consider doing a beginner video like this on those other, inferior 😁😂 types of welding? Oh and I will first be practicing on steel sheet and some thicker plate before I move on to aluminum (my first jobs will be repairing a few car panels and building a very basic but sturdy welding table, although I might stick weld most, if not all of that), so other than the obvious settings difference, would the practical tips and practice techniques you teach in this video still be the same?

I first learned to stick and TIG in high school 1980. I had one of the best welding teachers a young man could ask for back then. These new ones learning are fortunate to be able to click on a video and have talent like you to get them started. Excellent video!

Sad to say but tig mig are at deaths door for most applications, laser welders are hitting the streets at 5k USD approx, pretty soon will make the learning curve flatter Very soon we will just be a stick weld and laser welding world

All I do is aluminum.... It's always tricky and there are no short cuts on cleaning. Cleaning I think is the most important part. It's night and day difference when you start welding. Repairs or working on anything that's been used, painted or powder coated is a pain. I build custom entrance gates and my goal is always to make them strong enough to never ever have one come back for a repair because it can be a nightmare after it's been powder coated.

Oh... Filler rod and tungsten can make a huge difference. 4043 filler rod flows really good. I've tried all different types of tungsten and from my opinion a few different ones are good but I change them depending on thickness of aluminum vs the settings in using.

You have managed to answer a lot of the questions new TIG welders have. Something many experienced teachers fail to realize is many of the aspects of any given skill they think are intuitive or obvious are not intuitive or obvious to inexperienced beginners. I was educated as a classroom & physical education teacher, & gained experience teacher from K thru college level, but it was not until I sustained a brain injury at age 50, that I truly understood what it takes to teach people. The results of the brain injury affect how I now learn. What is obvious to others is not always obvious to me. This has made me especially aware of what it is like to be completely new to a task. Keep this is mind, & you will continue to be a great instructor, continue to improve as one.

Got my prime weld Tig welder yesterday. I have been watching your videos for days. With the instructions you provided in your videos, I was able to get set up and ready to weld no problem. I have done mig and stick welding, but never Tig. I turned on my machine with the setting you recommend. Did the puddle, and bead exercises I learned from you. I was blown away by the results. After hundreds of TIG welding vids this is the first one that really appeals to me! It is the first and only vid I found that not merely shows off the presenter's skill or talk Amp setting and charts etc, but only shows what does go wrong. I've a couple of horribly looking beads on steel and aluminium and was totally lacking interpretation skills. Everyone says "practize you simply need to practize then it'll sort itself out". This of course is total BS because for practizing to make any sense, to enabled progress, I need to know what error I am looking at. And this is where theory and charts don't help. Your coupons with failed beads + prcise explanation which error a certain bead-appearance is pointing to is a very great help! Excellent vid, thank you very much! Please post more failure reading / interpretation vids, that's the only way people like will be able to infer what to do change for the next bead.😍

I’ve only been welding for 3 years now n I’m just learning tig. My welding skills increases dramatically once I realized the trick to laying a good weld is simply being in a comfy position that won’t have my body stressing out half way threw laying a 2ft long weld.

I may have zero hours of welding experience but I probably have several hundred hours of watching and listening to podcasts haha. I finally pulled the trigger last week and ordered my first machine from a home decorator company in Canada and then it got stuck on the border and so I had to do some forms and send them another $200 Canadian. Now I'm looking for a tank, a helmet, and all the other accessories. The videos are even more fun when you have an inbound machine.

Watched your video yesterday. I can’t thank you enough. Your advice and experience has created a whole new perspective for me. I went through 2 80 cubic feet tanks of argon and probably 10 pounds + of 4043 1/16th” and 1/8” in a 24 hour period with my new found knowledge. My welds went from crap to structurally sound. I’ve listened to too many and overthinking to …..Dayyuummm……my welds are consistent and structural. I’m certified with all other aspects of welding except TIG. The “balance” point helped me ditch the natural trimmers I have due to military crap. I was also doing the lift arc vs. high freq…….huge HUGE difference for me. Thank you so much man !!!

I've been teaching myself TIG welding for a month or two now. I've watched videos here and there from a variety of contributors, trying to do the things they demonstrate, with moderate success, but lots of "I wonder why...?" thoughts. I'm never quite sure if I'm really doing it right or how to even know for sure. I learned more in this video than in all the others combined and--more importantly--I now have a much better sense for what is and isn't good welding, and enough of an understanding of what causes the problems that I'm sure my results will quickly improve. Thanks for taking the time to demonstrate and explain. Great content!

OK I have to say this is probably the most beneficial lesson I have ever seen on getting started. I really appreciate the extreme simplification. I tried to get started 1.5 years ago, and while I was able to put down OK beads, I was never consistent. I got frustrated and went back to MIG. Well in this lesson where you had us just make a series of dots, I was finally able to figure out the relationship between heat, time, arc length and travel. I now understand when the puddle forms and what to look for to keep it in check. Next step, I will try filler, but just putting down consistent 1/4" "starter beads" was awesome. Thank You!!!

I LOVE your teaching style! Far too many pros don't even realize that they're taking for granted the little details that they've been doing for years, and they leave many holes in their teaching that leave the students lost. I like how you drill on each point, without advancing too quickly to the next step. I especially like how you keep reiterating "This is under YOUR control...so CONTROL it!". The only thing I didn't see or hear (unless I just flat missed it) was holding the proper angle of the gun, which is a vital point (again, sorry if I missed it). Outstanding teaching video!!

I just started getting my welding certificate 2 weeks ago and this helps immensely. It's nice and all taking classes, and our teacher will answer questions, but she doesn't give you much 1 on 1 attention to diagnose and work with you on what you're doing wrong; feels a little like "figure it out". I will figure it out, but I want to be given precise advice from somebody looking at my technique. I learned more from this video than in 2 weeks in welding school. I've done all the things wrong that you showed lol. TIG feels like the most difficult out of the 4 we're learning, SAW, oxyacetylene, TIG, and MIG, though I'm told that oxyacetylene will get more difficult once we get to brazing.

You sir are a great teacher. This is exactly what I was looking for, as someone who has never welded before. I never grew up with shop or anything like that so I am about as beginner as you can get. Wow this was extremely helpful! I just got my primeweld 225x and never tig welded before. I started off slow made sure I was comfortable, and just started doing the exercises in this video in the course of an hour I was getting decent looking lines of weld with the filler. I started tig welding alloy 10 years ago ,I did not have lessons and did not know how to set the welder up: first issue I was supplied contaminated gas so what ever I did my welds were crap and full of black bottle was recalled a few months later. So I got to the point that I could run a weld that held but looked crap and still had some black in the weld, So I went out and brought a flex head and a gas lens, Suddenly my welds were good and now I'm happy with them most of the time, So with my complete lack of experience meant I didn't know how to setup or that the Chinese torch was to blame. Never give up is what I say. Now I'm buying a Mig for alloy and going to build a 48' alloy catamaran. I wish I watched this video years ago very helpful😊😊

Im an HVAC guy and run my own business now at 28. I started at 22. Took me only 6 years bc I grinded for knowledge and chose who to listen to well and I can say this guy is the real deal. I have to say, I was impressed with this seemingly basic information. I watched and listened and really considered what you said. I went out later and put into practice those simple tips and my stainless steel welds turned out GREAT and NOT like the burned out, grey overheated mass that I'd be too embarrassed to show. I don't have foot pedal, but my control via 2T was so much better. I have colors in my welds now :-) Thank you for the useful tips and the great info your videos provide.

I'm not a welder but have had a tig machine in my shop i use occasionally, so i've never gotten good at all at tig welding aluminum. This is by far the best video I've seen to correct all the errors i'm making he's pointed out and I did not know why. Best take away for me is "the closer the tungsten is to the aluminum, the cooler, the farther the hotter and get large pool of guk..to not pull away the tungsten until foot is off the pedal..

Hello, and thank you. I'm a self taught stick (for those who might want to correct me, I know it's arc) and mig hobbyist, but do enough to want to up my game. I purchased the ProTig 205 a week ago and have not unboxed it yet. I'm watching and trying to absorb as much education as possible, which is the opposite of how I stepped in the middle of stick and mig. As a 63 year old military vet who has some minor tremors, I'm starting consider my potential, but I still do some drafting, so it's a crap shoot not having tried yet. You've opened my eyes to the road ahead, not the least of which how the peddle works as your amp control, and then the puddle control. I don't have anything specifically I need it for, just want to learn and maybe one day apply. I never considered buying coupons upon which to practice. Before we moved from Utah to N. FL almost 3 years ago I had substantially more 'tools' at my disposal, and am trying to ramp back up. From a very nice bench vice, to a 4x4 Certiflat table and legs set that I had to sell for lack of room. I moved my Ironman 240 and bottle, but it's CO2, so I'll need to swap that for the argon. My point is that you've opened a window and exposed me to a different reality, and that I'm still a ways from cracking the box open.

Interesting that he mentioned the “magnetic radiation” thing because right before I watched this video I was thinking of researching the electro magnetic radiation hazards of Tig welding.

TIG, I believe is the most hazardous. The "smoke" from both Stick and MIG block some of te radiation

There is no electro magnetic hazard associated with TIG welding. The high frequency start might theoretically have an impact but it only lasts a fraction of a second and is very low power. When welding DC there is literally no physical way for electro magnetic fields to generate. Welding with AC at around 100Hz or so has negligible impact compared to all the hundreds of power lines already around you

@@billshuey7422 yeah but the context was to keep the leads on your lap. Obviously, the UV emission of TIG is one of the strongest, and as the process is tipically slower, also the exposure is longer; however, shielding is relatively easy so unless one makes a mistake (or welds without basic PPE) there shouldn't be much concern

This is an outstanding beginner video, from the practice drills to the examples and explanations, really educated me on the topic and where my problems are, Ive been winging it, trying to learn on my own, this is exactly what I needed to start progressing and improving

Thank you for what I can only say is the best welding tutorial video I've ever seen. You kept it simple and reinforced the points you were making and took us through how it should look and what was causing the problems with the defective welds. I've been MIG/MAG welding for quite a while (hobby stuff mostly) and have recently started using a lift arc TIG setup (DC only) for Mild Steel but have learned a lot from your video.
