Helicoid adapters aka macro adapters, have been around for decades. They made a comeback about 15 years ago when mirrorless was first floated.

Totally agree! I use the DLX Stretch to adapt Canon FD lenses to Sony and Mamiya 645 lenses to Fuji GFX. Makes a massive difference to the close focus distance for intimate portraits. Bought the first one in 2020... will eventually get the Leica M to Sony.

I use a similar adapter for Leica-M to Fuji-X from 7artisans and on top of that I mount several Vintage to M adapters for my old lenses. So in practice I only need one expensive adapter to adjust close focus and infinity on all my vintage lenses. Stacking adapters works great and it saves a lot of money as the simple mechanical ones are usually pretty cheap.

Love it, want one of these for my helios now :) In general I like it when adapters doo something extra, so that it feels like a bonus. Even for relatively modern lenses, like the Canon EF-RF adapters that have a control ring or ND filter.
@gavinjenkins8997 ай бұрын
There's even a tilt AND shift adapter in one for EF to RF. Doesn't work on a lot of lenses, but it does on some with full movements and no vignetting. E.g. the Sigma 17-35 wide angle zoom for some reason can do full tilt and shift on everything beyond about 20mm, which is dope as hell. Lots of others too, many M42 ones seem to do well with movements, i think my helios does a fair amount, even. And obviously any medium format lenses can do all movements when adapted through that onto full frame. So I also functionally have a tilt shift 35, 50, 80, 45-85, and 150, from my various Pentax 645 lenses

@gavinjenkins8997 ай бұрын
They're alright, but they have no electric connections. Obviously a manual vintage lens doesn't need those, but that means I need multiple different adapters for manual and non manual lenses. E.g. i have a lot of manual and also a lot of autofocus canon lenses. And Also M42 ones that then pass through EF on my chain of adapters. So I need an electronic canon adapter anyway, then also this. Then maybe also separately a tilt shift... gets to be a bit much, I have one, but I use it less than I thought I would.

1. The adapter shown here is not the best option if you need to mount an SLR lens and require as much extension as possible. Look for a straight helicoid adapter from an SLR mount to your mirrorless camera and you'll get at least 2x more extension than this one (a longer adapter will fit a longer helicoid). It is important with long lenses, because... 2. The longer the lens is, the more extension it requires to get into the macro range. 3. Avoid using helicoid adapters if your lens has floating elements for better close focus performance. Such lenses are designed for a specific mount flange distance; with a helicoid adapter, image quality will deteriorate. Unit focusing designs are fine.
