So... I recently reverted to Catholicism, and during the past few days I'd been having difficulty with the Church. And I just came across two videos in succession: the first one of a Eucharist miracle in Honduras and then THIS sermon. Dear Bishop, I was crying after those PROFOUND verses from Isaiah, and then I started to laugh in amazement at ALL of Who Christ IS! That GOD, Who IS GOODNESS and MERCY Itself would come to earth and BE ONE with His creation, then become wed to us, and then take our nature into Heaven??!!! And then the rest of your sermon, also amazing at what GOD can do. That He would want us to be a part of it, like you said, "Bring Me what YOU have" and I will work WONDERS! Thank you, Bishop.

This homily is great in how Bishop Barron illuminates the fine details and how they enrich the story, and how this story speaks to the larger narrative of God's work of salvation. And just after the Christmas Season, we hear this Gospel, and celebrate how God wedded Earth to Himself in Heaven once again through the coming of the Son, Who manifested God's presence in the sign at the wedding in Cana. It's fitting as I mark 5 years since a trip to Florida, where I celebrated the marriage of my brother and sister-in-law, and then visited Nombre de Dios Mission in St. Augustine, on the site where the first Mass was celebrated in what is now the USA.

“THE WATER SAW HER LORD AND BLUSHED” - 17th c. poet on Jesus’ first miracle. At Cana, “when the wine ran short”, Jesus mentions his Mother’s immediate “concern”, since she is not only Jesus’ Mother, but ours too, ie, the “rest” of her children, “those who keep God’s commandments and bear witness to Jesus” (Rev 12:17). Looking down from the cross, Jesus refers to his own Mother as the Beloved Disciple’s also: “Behold your son.” (Jn 19:26). How wonderful when we too “run short”, our loving Mother is “concerned”, even before we ask.

@RedRiverMan2 жыл бұрын
@@8neil830 Yes brother. For starters, it was 2nd century Israel and I don't know if such an manner of address is culturally inappropriate in such a situation. In modern day spanish -and probably many other tongues-its common to hear young folk refer to their mom and dad as "mi vieja/mi viejo" and in American English it used to be common to say "my old man/my old lady" for one's parents. However, beyond the cultural...Reading it biblically-connecting all the scriptures and foreshadowing from old and new testament-"Woman" was the title given to our First Mother Eve in Genesis expressing her singularity as THE WOMAN in history/herstory.. As Bishop said, in the gospels every word counts and so Yeshua referring to His Mother as "Woman" in this monumental moment harkened back to Mother Mary's role as reversing the guilt of Adam and Eve by pushing her Son into His ministry-even before He was ready. God bless you richly!

Amazing things are up ahead if you don’t give up. There will be new beginnings, times where God pays you back for what was unfair, times where He catapults you to new levels. Don’t get stuck. Don’t let the sickness cause you to get bitter. You didn’t see it coming; it’s not fair. You can say, “God, why? I don’t understand it.” Or you can look at that frustration, look at that worry, look at that doubt and say, “Sleep on. You’re not going to sour my life. I’m not going to drag through this day defeated, thinking about what didn’t work out, who did me wrong, how unfair it was. I know a resurrection is coming.”

An excellent homily, Bishop Barron. About wine being a source of intoxication & joy arising from the union between a bridegroom & bride, which symbolizes the joy of the union between Christ the bridegroom & the Church, His bride. But another analogy which has come to my mind is, the water in the stone jar for ablution is needed to CLEAN the body, while the wine which the water had become, symbolizes Jesus' blood which would be shed to CLEAN the soul of sins!

It's interesting that Jesus thought he was supposed to be about his father's business when he was twelve and Mary had to reign him in, because it wasn't time yet. And then at Cana, many years later, Jesus thought it wasn't his time yet, but it actually was, and Mary had to give him a bit of a push to get his ministry going.
