It has been said that Jesus waited until his mother was ready for him to begin his journey. Knowing the suffering that would follow it was her word, and his deep care for her wishes, that initiated his mission. He allowed her space saying, ‘it is not time yet’ but her affirmation suggested her full support in that moment. Just as any good child asks permission from their mother, so too does Jesus here. It’s not that he couldn’t have done it before, but upon her and the Fathers will. Love this series.

I think a lot of people overlooked that when Mary asked Jesus for help, it was a demonstration of faith. A mothers faith in her son, and a woman's faith in God, faith in his ability, and his willingness.

This moment at the wedding in Cana perfectly illustrates why Catholics love and honor the Virgin Mary and ask for her intercession. Mary noticed the problem and brought it to Jesus, saying, ‘They have no wine.’ Even when Jesus responded, ‘My hour has not yet come,’ He still performed His first public miracle because of her request. If Jesus, the Son of God, chose to act through His mother, doesn’t that speak volumes about her role in God’s plan? Yet, many anti-Catholics accuse us of ‘worshiping’ Mary, ignoring what this passage teaches us. Honoring Mary doesn’t take anything away from Christ, in fact, it follows His example. If Jesus loved and respected His mother so deeply, why wouldn’t we? As St. Maximilian Kolbe wisely said, ‘You can never love Mary more than Jesus does.’ Those who reject her intercession aren’t rejecting Catholics,they’re rejecting the example Jesus Himself gave us. Maybe it’s time to reflect on whether that mindset truly aligns with following Christ.

Biggest revelation to me was Jesus was not ready to reveal the plan, however his mother's faith and strong desire for people to know who he was moved Christ. Gods will WILL be done but he loves someone who has strong faith and it brings instant physical manifestation.

When Jesus was preaching in the house and they told Him that his mother and brothers were outside, He asked: "Who is my mother? Who are my brothers? " and then claimed the people on the INSIDE of the house listening to the sermon as His family. (Read the gospel of Mark) Why is it that His birth mother and half brothers were OUTSIDE the house? They thought He was mad because He was preaching. Why weren't THEY INSIDE the house listening to His sermon? The bridegroom’s family did not bring enough cheap wine. They were facing potential social embarrassment. Mary suggests to Jesus that he might do something about it. Jesus initially says it is not him time but ultimately changes water into wine thus saving the groom's family from a loss of face. Jesus's first miracle was to maintain the pride of the groom’s family? Why use such amazing power for a vainglorious act when pride is a sin? WTF?

This miracle is not about Mary. If you read further, you will find that the main purpose of this miracle is to help his disciples believe in him. This was the first miracle that Jesus did. In Johns gospel, the miracles are called signs. Signs are pointers. They point to Jesus.

He sounds reluctant to Mary…..because the literal words are mandatory here…..go to Young’s Literal because Jesus is quoting an ancient idiom….used by Eliseus right before Eliseus produced tons of water for three armies in 2 Kings 3:13…”what to me and to you” is said by Eliseus then and Jesus repeats it at Cana. All paraphrasing translations are false and cover up this connection. Jesus would have previously discussed Eliseus with Mary to get her ready for the miracles Jesus would do….both Eliseus and Jesus….multiplied loaves….cured leprosy….raised a dead child to life….produced a needed liquid. Mary feared the miracle period because it would bring on Jesus’ arrest and death given Deut.13:1-5 which mandated the death of any worker of wonders who then taught of other gods……the Trinity….to some Jews. Mary thus feared Jesus being arrested if he produced the wine too publicly……so Jesus quotes Eliseus….” What to me and to you, woman dearest, my hour ( to die) has not yet come.” How did I get woman dearest…from gynai? It means that when the woman is suffering within herself. Go to John 20:13 two angels address the weeping Mary Magdalene with… “woman” gynai. Go to John 20:15, Mary turns around and Jesus who she thinks is the gardener says to her “ Woman, why are you weeping…”. When Jesus sees her suddenly energetic and demanding to know where his body is, He addresses her with her name, verse 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” Likewise Jesus knows Mary is suffering with fear just in asking for the miracle. All present Protestant and Catholic translations of John 2:4 are paraphrases and are totally off point. The literal connects Mary to Eliseus…what to me and to you. Jesus was addressing Mary’s fear of his being arrested. He was saying in our words….”What to me and you,…woman dearest, my hour to be arrested is not near.”
