Eh, some mainstream media does this already. It's a running gag in our family that about two thirds of our evening news tend to feature some kind of wholesome story about animals. It's always at the end, always a very brief segment, and always completely unrelated to contemporary events + irrelevant. And it's absolutely just so that people end watching the news in a good mood. It's kind of nice, but also I can't but shake the feeling it's very much emotionally manipulative in order to increase viewer retention/return. So, I don't mind this being kept to a selective and periodic format (like this YT channel), where I actively chose to get a regular dose of feel good.

Let’s not let the discovery of the plastic-eating fungus lull us into thinking that it’s okay to still use plastic. We should all be doing everything we can to reduce our consumption of plastic.

Not 'will offer'. It will have to be 'must be obligated to'. We live in a capitalist economic system. Capital will do only what is in the interest of obtaining more capital. Fixing the environment gives less capital than exploiting it. So if you don't use superseding power (aka unified consumer demands, and kind of what governments are meant to be doing) to force them into fixing the environment, they won't. Simple: Don't rely on the greedy to be selfless. Just strongarm them to be slightly less greedy, at threat of taking away their everything.

It's the most disheartening one. It's just another example of us desiring to walk away from the problem we create and continue as usual. Discovering that nature will eventually rid the planet of humans and their waste is not helpful. I'll be happy when we recognize a problem and take action. Not holding my breath.

Noting that Insulin in a pill form and also a small injection needle "pen" form existed for years now - the latter's needle is also minimal (short and kind of tucked away) so it is a much better experience for those fearful of long needles. The pill merely does not work on people with organ issues, not because of the stomach though.

It's worth pointing out that less 1% of our plastic waste actually ends up in the ocean (according to the ocean clean up and other groups)
@bradstevens68852 ай бұрын
Producing so much plastic waste per year or close to that number is ridiculously dangerous. And there's barely any news about partly collecting plastic from places where it's not supposed to be that will make me feel optimistic about it's total volume reduction. This is one of the biggest problems of our time.

News #4 about oral insulin is quite non-specific, and can be misleading (I want to believe that it is due to a lack of study). Diabetes is divided into two large groups, type 1 and type 2. Type 1 are those people who do not produce any insulin, usually starting at an early age. Type 2 do not produce enough insulin, associated with older people and obesity. For type 2 there have been many options for some time that do not involve syringes, such as pills. Therefore it is necessary to specify whether this "new method" is suitable for type 1 diabetes, which is the only one to whom it offers a truly new solution.
@think41812 ай бұрын
This seemed to be aimed at type 1 as type 2’s don’t usually take insulin since there body still produces it (note that type 2 is usually a resistance to insulin being absorbed by the cells, not a decrease in production, though taking insulin can help a subset of type 2). I think that even if the pill works, it will still be inferior to insulin pumps in the vast majority of cases, as pumps give a delivery system that is attached to you and controlled by a smart device, so there isn’t medication to carry around (on a small time scale naturally). Pumps also only need fast acting insulin making prescription ordering and insulin storage to be simpler. On top of that pumps pair with CGMs and use algorithms to learn a persons specific insulin needs, which can greatly decrease A1C as well as hypoglycemia. To go back to taking insulin in this way would feel like a step back in diabetes management. I also see the problem of how to adjust the dose, as the amount of insulin a diabetic takes is different every time for bolus, and can change for basal as well.
@salvador48582 ай бұрын
@@think4181 For that same reason I thought it was a breakthrough for type 2 diabetes, since it brings more problems than benefits to type 1 diabetes patients. As a CGM (tandem + dexcom) owner, I don't see this news as a breakthrough for me, just another piece of news that, if you're not well informed, looks better than it really is.

Don’t be misled into thinking that reintroducing wild animals to places they were once extinct is undoing the damage we've done. The harm is already done. Reintroductions normally start with a small population (like these horses), which can result in a genetic bottleneck. That bottleneck has a low genetic diversity, making the population vulnerable to inbreeding, genetic drift, and other challenges I'm sure. I’m not suggesting we stop these efforts, on the contrary, I think we should persist. We just have to understand that reintroductions cost a lot and require years of ongoing monitoring, analysis and potential adjustments. At the rate species are dropping around the world, I'm afraid we're going to run out of money and scientists.
@Good__News2 ай бұрын
Their plan is to reintroduce a lot more, but thats still true. Remains to be seen how this project turns out but i think the effort is already a good news

You are Very Badly informed. Prayers can have a huge impact! My spouse was healed from a debilitating incurable illness, called rheumatoid arthritis. The joints in his body were so inflamed! He was very limited in his movements and had much pain. But prayer in the name of Jesus Christ healed him! All the inflammations left him instantly! And never to come back. What doctors couldn't do, Jesus Christ did. Our story is but one of many many millions of answered prayers and miracles. It is true though, that not all prayers are answered. We as humans are puzzled as to why not and seek to find answers. It stays hurtful. Most problems in this world are human made. We need to find another job, because this employer abuses you or these colleagues mob you. Badly made constructions fall and hurt others. People still drive drunk and cause others to mourn over their lost loved ones. The Bible says that the love of money is the root of all evil. People work hard for something and then an evil person comes to steal it or destroy it. People cut corners everywhere to make a quick buck, not realizing that others pay for those corners. Cheap plastic toys from China were found to cause cancer the other day! Talking about not taking your responsibility! In the midst of it all God has no obligation to help sinful humankind. And yet, in His mercy and grace, He's helped countless of them. Provided that new job miraculously. Had someone be late that specific morning, that a structure fell down, so it wouldn't fall on him. Help people avoid that drunk driver or climb out of a wrecked car without major injuries. That last bit also happened to my spouse. All who saw the wrecked car thought it impossible for someone to come out of that even alive. He is tall, but only had a few minor scratches.

There’s no reason to be rude about it, even if you don’t believe in it. Respect one another, no matter our beliefs, and the world will be a better place. Praying, hoping, putting “good vibes into the universe” that you’ll have a better, more positive day. And hoping you pass that goodness on to others, not this unnecessary meanness
