Strides weren't nearly as bad for the game as links were for YGO, I don't mind strides in D format for example, it's the crest being a free super persona ride everyturn that I have a problem with.

Back when I started in late G (I got in through the messiah trial deck), I thought Locking was a fair and balanced control mechanic, until I heard of omega locking and the PTSD inflicted by Chaos Breaker from a few Vanguard friends.

My immediate take on Progenitor Dragon of total putiry, Agnos when it was released is that it will really be seen played in Paladin-type decks.

Admittedly, my worst take was that D-Standard was gonna be completely unplayable because of the OT and less shield value than V, I believed that until Clarissa's abilities being revealed made me want to try the format.

Competitively it is unplayable. Triggers are way too swingy because shield value and hand size are both so low, and going first gives a huge advantage over going second. Casually it's a ton of fun though.

No meme, when the game had just released, because attack values were so low (see OG Overlord and Aleph skills) PGs we’re not deemed “worth” because you had to drop 2 cards on what was normally a 1 trigger guard. Say your opp’s VG swings for 11, highest they could go was 21 so why drop 2 cards when 1 15K shield does the job

I remember when people complained that luard getting choice restricted with nemain (back before it was released outside of jp) made the deck borderline unplayable. I remember being in absolute shock and even made bets with people about how strong the deck would be 300 bucks were made in the span of a month and I still can't believe those takes were real

The gurguit take isn't that crazy, if you didnt see any of the other support with it. Gurguit by itself using gold paladins previous support is pretty meh compared to luard gavrail and nightrose
