What I found interesting was since dealers partner with these various sites you can not use just one during your search. They might list “millions of cars” but due to a partnership you’ll find the same dealers listings coming up over and over during your search. Speaking with my local dealer they fully admitted they don’t even bother listing or updating these sites in todays market- the vehicle will be sold so fast so why bother. As mentioned it’s purely lead generation- they want your email and more importantly your phone number so they can spam you to visit them. Well I’m not stopping by if you don’t have the exact vehicle I want. The process needs to honor my selections regrading: color, trim, options, etc and put me in touch with a real person that has the actual vehicle I selected to buy. Maybe it works for people who are flexible but not for someone picky like me.

I fell for the "if we don't have the exact model, we can get it for you" lie the last time I bought a car. And they did, for an extra $200 fee. Of course, I should have just gone to the dealer who had the correct car. I don't want my personal information "monetized" by contacting a dealer just to ask about inventory. I certainly don't want to go through the "hard sell" to find out they don't have the car. I no longer give out my phone number or email information to even legitimate businesses because I have been abused too often. I checked my email one morning this week and had 15 emails from right wing political groups. I guess someone snagged by email address and made some money from it. I have Norton AntiTrack and 183 sites have tried to track me (it shows who they are) in the 20 minutes I have been online.

But the better question is: are the price ratings fairly accurate?

Something that hasn’t been addressed is that every vehicle has unique pros and cons that influence it’s value. As an example, a potential buyer could look at 10 Jeeps, same model year, same options, etc. Their ultimate value will be determined by mileage, where the vehicle was domiciled, how it was used, modifications, upgrades, customizing, etc. All of those issues will determine the vehicles actual value, therefore KBB, Black Book, etc values are relative to what a customer would actually pay for the vehicle. Low milage used vehicles, in like new showroom condition, will likely sell for more than KBB and similar car value publications recommend.

The problem with Car Gurus and similar sites is that the “market value” is reflective of past sales and not current conditions. For example many Tesla Model 3 and Y have market values of a new Tesla. The market value is not accounting for the $7500 tax rebate you get on a new Tesla, making the a new Tesla a better deal.

So how about doing True Buying of a Car. Cash first. 2022 WRX base for my area DFW. I do numbers under CarG, KBB, etc. Unfortunately, the consumer doesn't ask the OTD pricing and line items. Corona virus gives us the latitude to deal remotely, especially new cars. I'm finding deal in Wyoming and live in Dallas...Let me know your thoughts. Thx

Hey Zach.. I have a question. When I got my Camry on the 11th, I traded a 2010 Corolla w/178k miles. They sent it to auction. I want to track down where that car ends up and what it sold for. I got 4k in trade. What is the best way to find that car.?

Something's up with the configuration of the YAA website. When I try to go there it does not load. But when I go through a VPN it does load. So you may not be aware of it but your server appears to be blocking a range of IP addresses of which mine is included.

@@CarEdge The whole thing. I ran my IP address through the various blacklist sites and it's clean but some neighboring IPs are not. Your hosting company may be blocking a range of IPs.
