I just want to say I really enjoy our videos. They are very informative and I have learned a great deal. Also I enjoy the productions...as in the fun stuff you integrate. I am hoping to eventually have a system that will run most everything in my 2000 SQ ft. House ( in power saving mode) for 2-3 days in a grid down solar minimum (rain/clouds) and full w/solar charge in sunny conditions 4-5 hours.

🚨Cell #15 is weak! 🚨 It was the highest cell while charging AND the lowest cell when discharging. It isn't just not balanced (meaning not the same charge state) it has a lower capacity than the rest. I think you need to contact the maufacturer to get a replacement cell or thoroughly check the terminals for tightness or dirtyness.
@AveRage_Joe
@AveRage_Joe Жыл бұрын
True but we did test over the 100ah claim. I could pull the cell for the heck of it and test?
@SuperBrainAK
@SuperBrainAK Жыл бұрын
@@AveRage_Joe well it would be about 103Ah like the test showed but if you tested all the other cells they would read more than 103Ah because the lowest capacity cell determines the capacity of the battery because they are all in series with the same amount of amps going through each cell. Probably not worth doing anything with the cell but it is a good think to keep an eye on if it gets any worse.
@aspendell209

The box clearly said Lithium Ion, but the cells are clearly Not. There are 2 reasons a company does this: Either they don't know what they are selling, or they are trying to deceive their customers. Lithium Ion batteries typically sell for at least 50% more, due to lighter weight, increased efficiency, and smaller footprint. In DIY we test each cell and create a pack with matched charge/discharge curve cells. The best name brand portable power station companies do this as well. These ones weren't even close to matched judging by the huge voltage discrepancies that you displayed at the top and bottom of the curve. Good video Joe, thanx.
@AveRage_Joe

Yeah it does say Lithium Ion which I to thought was odd but I just read on google it says LiFePO4 batteries fall under the transportation guidelines for lithium-ion and are handled in a similar way so have to be marked UN # (3480 or 3481). I could be wrong tho...its the interwebs 😆

Very nice looking battery. However I am off grid and pretty doesn't do much where capacity is concerned. I still think the Signature Solar Lifepower4 batteries are a better value. A rack mount is more compact. With the discount a few of these would be a pretty good buy. The fact that it will work with a lot of inverters is a big plus too.

TRU TRU pretty doesnt count for capacity lol. I havent had the chance to test SS rack battery yet. I personally like the wall mount batteries these days. Nice and neat, clean and out of the way. I watch a few different KZbinrs. You are one of the best. I retired 3 years ago in Ukraine. I am a big fan of solar. I been wanting to buy a battery like this for a long time. Ukraine custom fee are really stupid. But because of war they have cancelled all import fees. 😊 So after watching your video I bought 10 of these. I really like SOK a lot. But there prices were just to much for me. I used your 10% discount code. Wow. 10 of the server rack batteries. $13,500. One of the reasons I am texting you is about top balancing battery. I plan on setting battery cut off at top 80% low shutoff 20%. Will they balance them self over a few weeks? Or months?
@AveRage_Joe
@AveRage_Joe Жыл бұрын
Well Thank You!!! I Appreciate that! Nice! 10 is CRAZY! So what I would do is charge them all up FULLY to let them balance out. The voltage needs to be higher to reach/activate the balancing of the bms. Its hard to say how long it would take since every battery is slightly diff. Honestly, after you charge them for the first time.....Id just start using them. They will balance over time and since you have 10, you have time. Great buy and thats great that you dont have to pay extra duty taxes......I hate taxes!😄 If you encountet any issues or have question, dont hesitate to ask💥🤘

Awesome video, great production. I am learning video editing and can only hope to someday get close to this level of video. Awesome and really enjoy it. The battery drop downstairs is classic. On a serious note, I am totally a newb when it comes to power, electric, battery ratings, numbers, all that jazz. So, when you stated the $$$ per kWh, I don't understand why anyone would go this route for power. Meaning my current electric providers rate is $0.10.4 cents per kWh. Paying for a system that produces a kWh of power at $300 plus rate is mind boggling to me. Again, I already admitted to being a newb, but can you help me understand, as I am sure I am missing something... Thanks much!
@AveRage_Joe
@AveRage_Joe Жыл бұрын
Thanks and Appreciate that. So to kinda bring it all down to a few words. Many want or need a backup system to keep the power on when the grid goes down for whatever reason. A storm, blackouts, California fires the utility company just turns off everyones power, idiot drives into a utility pole....the list can go on. People want to start being more independant and others its a hobbie. Yes batteries are one of the pricy items in the system for sure BUT it sure is nice to have power(fridge, tv, lights) when the neighbors dont🤠✌️
@t3angling575
@t3angling575 Жыл бұрын
@@AveRage_Joe so strictly from a $$ standpoint, Solar is more expensive than grid power, would that be a fair statement? I totally get the rest of your points. I have all but decided to go with Orient after watching your videos. I live in an HOA, do not want panels on my roof, so big battery storage $$ is what I am leaning towards, and charging with a generator. If I decide to relocate I will ensure I get a little acreage to install panels. We cannot do net metering here so that is not an issue. I am mainly looking to get as much as possible off grid power as I can, probably not HVAC, dryer, etc. but between natural gas and a couple batteries and an inverter, I should be able to cut into the power bill substantially. My hope anyway. Thank you. I have been asking everyone to answer the question about kWh pricing compared to grid power. Appreciate it.
@AveRage_Joe
@AveRage_Joe Жыл бұрын
@t3angling575 Yeah solar power is expensive but your replacing the grid. Depending on your power needs, you can run damn near all your house minus the big items like stove, AC and dryer with 10-15kwh of battery. At least we can here at my house. If you get board, watch my bigbattery.com videos. There long but I show all the things you can power and for how long. In an emergency you could even set out portable fold out solar or even get some used panels. All my solar panels are used from santan solar. I purchased 21 panels (5.8kw) for around $1200 shipped to my door. Not saying you have to get that many but throwing a few out will help save some gas on the genny.
@t3angling575
@t3angling575 Жыл бұрын
@@AveRage_Joe awesome man. I truly appreciate you, I think being the only one willing to state that it is expensive, and more so than grid. I was thinking my math had to be off somewhere, again THANK YOU very much. Your videos on all in one units, and yes Big Battery (holy cow those are BIG assed batteries) is what I will be using. I am also going to use you Ultimate Power hand truck video to build a system for camping trailer build. You hit the main point with solar, interesting, fun to learn and to tinker with, and absolutely get away from further enriching power companies who never or seemingly never upgrade grids, resulting in more outages. I agree for all the reasons, now can start getting units and batteries together for the build. Thank you again very much for your honesty and awesome videoed. Ya da man BOOOOOOOM!

Hi, awesome review, I'm starting to like this battery more and more. I would like to ask if it would be possible to use the battery in an upside-down position for a small portable solar system. (For example, on the hand truck) This battery would be placed at the bottom and above it All-In-One Inverter. This battery would be rotated by rotated 180degree under All-In-One inverter. Rotated 180degree, because the connections between the All-In-One inverter and the Rotated battery they would be nice close to each other this way. Probably this should be possible as the battery cells are solidly secured position inside, but then is it possible to rotate the LCD display 180degree in it as well? I'm not asking for a rear mount this, can definitely be sorted out, there's plenty of steel there. Thank you for your answer, best regards. Tibor (Czech Republic)

I need to pick your brain on this one. I have three powerwalls similar to your Orient Power connected in parallel. One day, I noticed that the master powerwall's state of charge was lagging behind the other two powerwalls by 15%. So, I switched off the two powerwalls and I managed to have the master powerwall catch up by charging it in isolation through the same solar system. What if the powerwall that was lagging behind was not the master powerwall, can I switch off the other two and charge the lagging powerwall in isolation? Or will this not work because I need to have the master powerwall on at all times when the powerwalls are parallel-connected?
@AveRage_Joe
@AveRage_Joe Жыл бұрын
Hmmmm, I actually dont have a proper answer on that because I have not had that issue(I also dont have 3 to parallel). However, I would also say that there are minor differences between ALL batteries, wires, bms's, electrical components ect.... so 15% may seem like a lot but might noy actually be. I only say that from paralleling other batteries together and notice the voltage being the same but SOC shows much different. Here is a question, if you leave them all connected, will the master ever catch up? Mine usually do because once battery is full the house or loads run from solar and the batteries have time to "equalize" with each other. Will yours do that?
@zachary261
@zachary261 Жыл бұрын
@@AveRage_Joe They all equalize at 100% and discharge unequally. I noticed that one "powerwall" seems to stay asleep at 100% (when they're all fully charged) for quite a while when sunset comes and it's time to discharge. I've had to switch of the other two "powerwalls" to force discharge on the sleeping one. I wonder if things will just work out if I leave it alone. Thanks anyway.

Hey Joe, The one problem I see is that the battery will only balance when it is charging, as soon as the over voltage is hit or the battery is "fully" charged the balancing stops and the cells don't get balanced any further. Could you see if they can up date the software so that balancing can be enabled the whole time instead of when just charging? Other than that , a good battery.

Actually.....I thought the same BUT it will continue to balance. I have video of that but didnt show it.

@@AveRage_Joe Hey Joe. OK? I will watch my Laptop today as the battery charges up, form what I've seen my packs stop balancing as soon as the bms stops the charging....

@@AveRage_Joe Hey Joe, Nope, As soon as the blue "Charging" under system status tab goes grey the balancing stops. That means that these batteries will not be able to top balance.. Balancing is indicated by the blue "BL" next to the cells, once the "Charging" in blue stops, so does the "BL" next to the cells.

Interesting, what is the charge rate? If its really low like 1a at the top end and then goes under .5a, the bms wont read that. If you continue to charge under .5a and go into high cell cutoff, the bms will not balance. However if you charge above .5a and then hit high cell cutoff, the bms will continue to balance.

@@AveRage_Joe Hi Joe, I've set the battery full current down to 500mA, even with an external charger at 5A, when the BMS says the battery is full, it stops charging and then the battery is still taking 3A or more. The problem is that the charge function switches off. I can't stop this or change it, it is set by the BMS, I have watched the high cells and the one cell sits at 3545 and just stays there, even giving it an hour sees no change in the voltage it drops by 0.001 of a volt but that is it, the voltages do not drop down, this is a bit annoying, I've had my batteries running for 2 months now and my deltas are between 190mV and 160mV... I've dropped the balance voltage and the delta to make the balancing start earlier but at 15A there is not much those small balancers can do.. Once the charge function switches off the battery does not balance the cells any further.
