I've heard it said that Kiryu being slower and bouncing off of guards and not doing much damage is supposed to be thematic. He's getting older. He's not in his prime anymore. He can reclaim a bit of his strength all over again, but for his final game he's scraping by on skill rather than the old pinnacles of his raw power.

The Haruka's fan substory was my favourite. The substory shows the impact Haruka left after Yakuza 5. Its a way to show how Kiryu is a proud father to Haruka and how grateful he is to have a daughter like her. Its also a great way to appreciate the father daughter relationship after we spend times between these two characters throughout the series. Stuff like that make me bawling my eyes out. Anyways, this is a great video Son, proud of you.

Think my favorite thing about the final fight is that kiyru taunts him for being a spoiled brat who's upset that daddy didn't give him what he wants and calls all this a tantrum and not the yakuza he thinks he is. Kiyru beating on him and calling him a crybaby boy is the funniest thing.

I'm happy Kiryu did it, because that's all Tsuneo is, a spoiled child, butthurt that daddy didn't let him be a fucking career criminal, so he does his hardest to be a Yakuza while being further from a yakuza than even Someya
@Kris-wo4pj2 жыл бұрын
@@luigiff3431 think the funny part is that someya is a real yakuza. He is honorable but he's more businessman cuz that's what it calls for. It's also smart not to get tattoos since that's what the police look for and it's so taboo in Japan only recently becoming slightly more common so less likely to be discriminated against not to get it. He just needed to be humbled tho he was wiling to kill himself for his ex. He just needed to stop being so ambitious. Which seemed to be the main issue with the villains in yakuza overly ambitious while the heros don't have that issue if anything they just wanna retire and relax.

See, I kinda disagree that this is a good ending for Kiryu’s story. Kiryu’s entire arc in Yakuza 5 is him learning that putting distance between himself and the people he loves to “protect them” is bad for both him and his loved ones. Him choosing to fake his death at the end of Y6 feels like him regressing and forgetting what he’d previously learned. Also, don’t even make me get into how bad it is that Y6 puts Haruka into a coma for 90% of the story after spending her entire chapter in Y5 giving her agency and making her feel like a full person with her own story independent from Kiryu’s.

I wish you had spent at least a few more seconds talking about Kiryu's letter to Daigo, especially the part where not only does Kiryu say he thinks of himself as Kiryu's father, but that Daigo also evidently thinks the same given he calls him as much. To me that was one of the most emotionally hard hitting moments from Y0-6, the only moment on par being the resolution of Majima and Makoto's story in Kiwami 2. For some reason it seems the community tends to think it comes out of left field, but I think its a very important conclusion to the relationship Kiryu and Daigo have had across 6 games (given Daigo's absence in K1).

Not my favorite Yakuza, but a really good one and an effective send off to the series' main protagonist. In a way, it felt to me like another attempt at the kinda intimate gangster story of Yakuza 3 in the same way Yakuza 5 had another attempt at the prison story from 4. Not a rehash, but another go, and I think it's better. Unfortunately for this game, I played Kiwami 2 and Judgment first, so I got to see how great the Dragon Engine would become and coming to this afterwards to witness its beginnings was a shock. Still, I loved it and also really liked having Kiryu fight not only Beat Takeshi, but mother-fucking Okada too!

I'll never understand the love this entry gets. 5 was a better ending to finish the series off with. 6's 'main story' (the secret of Onomichi) seems to come out of nowhere, and the family/friends part of the story, the part everyone talks about being great and emotional, IMO is just dumb. Akiyama is now a bum again, for reasons never satisfactorily explained. The Chinese mafia is targeting him, but why? He's not part of the Tojo clan and was only involved with them in 4 out of circumstance rather than choice. Even accepting that excuse it doesn't make sense going into hiding as a bum because anyone who knew he had connections to Tojo would also know about his connections to the bum's collective. Haruka apparently falls in love with Yuta and has a kid, and it's poorly told and extremely unearned. They make such a huge deal of 'who is the father' that when it's revealed its underwhelming times a million. Moreso, they're apparently in love but Yuta was sure the kid wasn't his because they only did it once, and I guess Haruka NEVER told him, like, that doesn't sound like love to me. Completely unearned. It felt like they came up with the idea of Kiryu taking care of a kid and wrote the story around that and didn't even take care when doing it. The Secret of Onomichi is hilarious and in line with the over the top stuff Yakuza is known for but there's little sense in the story around it. It basically comes out of nowhere surrounded by an exposition dump and the result of it being revealed makes no sense. A secret battleship being hidden, then it's brought out and yet at the end Kiryu is being offered money to keep it a secret? Like, from who, did the world not see the ship on the news? Also, Kiryu faking his death seems to go against the story of 5, where he realized he shouldn't just go into hiding to protect the ones he loved. Don't get me wrong, I don't HATE the game but it's not the fitting end the series needed for Kiryu. It's IMO easily the weakest story in all 7 Kiryu story entries and that's just a shame because even with the story here, it COULD have been a great end if the writing had been better and didn't feel as rushed as it did.
@EnerKaizer2 жыл бұрын
They tried to give Kiryu hush money not to keep the existence of the Yamato MK. II a secret. They wanted him to be silent about the origin of the ship which is the major issue at hand (which the game undersells very much.) Remember: This ship was built by using Chinese and Korean PoWs as work-force, and they embezzled money from the newly formed post-WW2 era government of Japan to finish it AFTER THE WAR HAD ENDED. This would be a gigantic storm of multiple multi-national scandals which would involve, at least, 2 major world powers and a good bunch of broken treaties they had with them which would affect a lot of politicians that are still active in Japans political landscape in some shape or form. Japan could still play dumb and pretend to have not a single clue where on earth the Yamato MK.II came from as long as nobody knows about it's history which could help them avoid the catastrophic fallout of its revelation, and Kiryu, at the end of Y6, is the only one left who could tell its tale. That's why the things happen the way they do at the final scenes of the game.

It may have been rough around the edges thanks to RGG still getting settled into the Dragon Engine, but groundwork is definitely there! Most of what I loved in Kiwami 2 was still here, albeit in a more primitive state. I couldn't stand Death Stranding or Amnesia: Rebirth's baby mechanics (I'd make a terrible parent), so I was worried when the minigame to calm the baby was introduced. Just finished the game and was surprised by how lackluster this entry felt. Like we went from the longest yakuza game, with Yakuza 5 taking me like 80 hours finish, to the shortest one, which I finished in just 25. This being the end of Kiryu's story, I was extremely disappointed by the lack of recurring characters which are some of Kiryu's best friends, like Majima, Saejima, Daigo, Kazuki, the Florist of Sai, Yuya... Some of them are here but barely present. We instead focus on a new family in a small town which I didn't get invested in since they already had the same formula in Yakuza 3. There is also very little minigame compared to previous entries, with only two major mini games, the Clan creator and the baseball mission (which I didn't go into because it just didn't interest me). Also, the fact that the substories are not marked on the map means that I missed most of them even though I tried to do as many as I found. I still loved some of the aspect of the stories and some of the new characters like Nagumo, Kiyomi and Someya, but the rest of them felt boring to me and one dimensional to me. I also feel that the combat system is really lacking compared to the other games, in previous titles you could use weapons, different stances, had multiple characters with different movesets... Now you just play as Kiryu, with one stance, no weapons, and only a few heat moves...

Well, turned out that it's not the end of Kiryu's story after all.

I'll watch the video later, but I'll just say that I did not care for Yakuza 6 at all. It looks good, combat is pretty decent, I like the locations and that's kind of where it stops for me. A lot of series mainstays have disappeared (coliseum, gambling, fishing) and replaced with stuff that's frankly just not as fun (the cat cafe, spearfishing, cafe conversations), and the story lacks any sense of finality until the very end, and feels like a cheaper version of Y3... One thing that has always carried the story for me were the characters, which are kind of poor this time around, Someya being the exception for me. The whole 'secret of Onomichi' is just not very interesting and when that ship finally pops up, you need another 15 minutes of exposition to understand why the thing even matters... Being the mascot of Onomichi was a great quest though. The story sorely needed some input from Haruka herself, and sidelining Daigo and Majima was... not great, especially not since Majima's backstory in 5 raised a lot of questions. The entire story could also just be avoided if Kiryu just gets a damned lawyer at the beginning. Or if Yuta would just open his mouth. All in all, it feels like they just made 'yet another Kiryu story' and when they were done making it, someone said 'weren't we supposed to close his story this time around?' - 'crap you are right', and then went back to write an actual pretty touching ending that comes out of nowhere. The only other moment that was really great for me was storming the Millenium Tower and fighting Someya a final time. To me personally, there's nothing in which Yakuza 6 excels compared to the rest of the series. It's still a very good game, but I'd rank it very close to the bottom.

I skipped a bit through the video because I don't care much for how it's structered and noticed you think the Clan Creator is an 'upgrade' over the Majima Construction gameplay. Not going to watch the entire video to see if that was a mistake, but I hope you do realize that Kiwami 2 was released AFTER Song of Life...

I loved this game like all others in the series, but it was always weird to me that the kid actually was Haruka's son. I'd always wished it turned out he was someone else's, and she was just taking care of him in the real mother's stead, as Kiryu had taken care of Haruka for Yumi. Like, we'd known this girl since she was little more than a toddler and watched her grow up. I don't want to think about her actually getting together with someone and producing a child. I know she's actually 19 in this game, but it still feels creepy to me. Despite my complaints about that, I otherwise loved this game and especially the side content. And this game had some of the best substories in the series in my opinion. My favorite is without a doubt The Kabedon Prince. It got some of the biggest laughs out of me from the entire series. The phrase "You're not going home tonight" will never leave my head.

Well done as usual, Son. I didn't Like very much the story, since all of the historic characters of the series were marginal if not not present at all. Especially Haruka, this should have been her entry, but she's not awake almost the whole game. The action piece sections were really Cool, but even the gameplay was a bit meh, especially After 5. I really recommend you the GCVazquez video about Y6 which expresses the weird choices and the inherent racism inside this entry. Well done
