Your muscle memory can't translate directly because it's tiny scale size. It will always feel different. But finger picking could be close if neck is wide enough.

Good day Mr. Guitar Superstar! Thank you for the short and sweet review! Watching your review helped me to finally go out and buy a Yamaha GL-1. I have one in persimmon brown! What I love about it is the small size and the BIG SOUND! Eric now that I have one and I am new to this instrument! A very green beginner but I have played keyboards for years so I understand chords and music theory. Eric would you please do a weekly , bi weekly or monthly Guitarlele tutorials. Please and pretty please! I ain't to proud to beg as you can clearly see! Thank you! Ps. The guitarlele is the perfect size for someone who feels that most guitars are to Big and Bulky and most ukuleles are too small. I've had my Guitarlele for less than a month but I've already written a few beautiful songs. However I need help with Strumming,Fingering chords,notes,scales, with everything! I'm looking forward to those Wonderful Guitarlele tutorials coming soon! 👍🏿😊😜

A little advise: change the head nut! 38mm between the 2 E strings is not enough, the guitar is difficult to play. 41,5mm is much better, and still enough space on each side... Fluorocarbon strings are better too, because they are thinner... And be careful when you buy one, some are better built than others... Some have intonation problems, some are perfect... So you really have to try them! 😉

Very informative review, thank you. I picked up ukulele a few years back and want to keep going with it to get as good as I can, but when I play with other people I feel self conscious that it sounds like a toy. This seems like a good transitional instrument to learn guitar and be able to jump in future jam sessions. I'd reeeeealy like to find a 6 string banjolele, but so far no luck with that.

The bridge is not a simple straight piece of plastic, but slopes from higher on the bass strings to lower on the top nylon ones- There is a very slight variance for the third string (the C, first unwound nylon), and the top of the bridge is rounded on one side, but straight up verticle on the other. So simply turning it around may be difficult. I suspect you can order a left handed bridge if you search the net. I'm neither sure if the nut slots are uniform- I can't tell from looking at mine.

I have just bought a Yamaha guitalele and love it. The only problem I have is that there is fret buzz on the lower wire wound strings, especially on the D string. This is quite pronounced when I play the Am shape at the nut as my second finger can't get close enough to the second fret. Has anyone else had this problem? I tried replacing the D string and also raising the saddle but this didn't help. I went back and tried the other guitaleles in the shop where I bought mine and they were all the same. Any ideas - would using a non-wire wound nylon string for the D help?

Been thinking about buying this guy for months now, but I'm just curious if I misunderstood or not. I play acoustic guitar and have done so for about 2-3 years now (not pro or anything, but I can absolutely play some tunes and sing to if I want to), and I've also played ukulele for just as long, but say I find a no capo song on Ultimate Guitar and I transpose it to +/- 5, will I be playing the ukulele version of the chords or the guitar version of them? I mean, hence the guitalele is basically a mini-guitar tuned 5 steps up..? But like.. hmm.. tabs and chords for guitalele.. Should you just follow the usual ukulele tabs/chords or should you try play them as you would on a guitar? Like.. just generally? Many questions here, but I'm confused AND curious, haha!

From what I've read, the answer is "both." Classical guitar strings, especially high tension classical strings will work. Also, Aquila makes strings specifically for hybrid instruments like this. The strings can be found online at Elderly Instruments, and maybe on other websites as well. The strings are called Aquila 96C Guilele/Guitalele strings.

+Doug Loan I tried the Aquila strings. I do not like them as much as classical strings. (Actually, I don't like them at all). The Aquila's have more of a traditional uke sound, but, in my experience, do not sound as good on this instrument. Also, again in my experience, they don't stay in tune nearly as well. Regarding classical strings, I contacted an accomplished player here on youtube, and he said he uses normal tension classical strings. According to him, high tension classical strings are not necessary.

I bought a guitalele after pondering on whether to buy Ukulele or this (as my first instrument), but I can't seem to find tutorials on it. I tried to play it like a guitar from some youtube videos, but it just doesn't sound the same. Guess I'll have to learn it the way it's meant to be. Does anyone know of any source(s) for learning guitalele? I'd really appreciate that. PS At this point, I'm really thinking of quitting it, and buying an ukulele instead. :/

Could you just shift all the original strings down and buy just a low E string? Would it sound weird? I would like to buy a guitalele and wonder if that is an option. Thanks. It sounds great.

From what I heard, if you tune it to E, the strings become too loose. Hope this helps

love it guitar fingering an uke sound. iIf you're looking for strings for these you can find them on ebay. Aquila makes sets gauged just for ADGCEA tuning Aquila code 96C.

Putting steel strings on a classical guitar is a time-honored way of COMPLETELY DESTROYING the guitar. Steel acoustic guitar strings run at much higher tension than nylon, putting significantly more stress on the instrument. Acoustic guitars are built with extra internal bracing reinforcement to handle the extra tension. Classical guitars are NOT. Although some people do get away with this for a while. . .depends on the instrument, strings in question, and tuning, typically steel strings on a nylon instrument will either warp the soundboard (ruining the guitar) or even rip the entire bridge right off the guitar!

Hello, I have a guitalele, and I do not know how to learn it. Should I enter guitar lessons since it has six strings, or enter ukulele lessons. Please respond quickly, I need your answer
@joshuamartell9747
@joshuamartell9747 3 жыл бұрын
Seeing as it is strung and tuned like a standard six-string guitar (just on a smaller scale, and I presume a shorter range), I would opt for guitar lessons. Standard ukelele tuning is G C E A, standard guitar tuning is E A D G B e, while the guitalele is A D G C E A, so it has the same intervals as a typical guitar would have (imagine putting a capo, which just makes all the notes a certain interval higher, on the 5th fret to make the low E an A to give it the same effect) which gives for a different playing style with different chord shapes and the like, so ukelele lessons wouldn't do much that for you in your case other than to most likely further confuse. In short, the guitalele is a guitar shrunk down to the size of a uke and tuned six semitones higher. Hope that helped!

@joshuamartell9747 3 жыл бұрын
Ah, sorry, I said in the beginning that it was tuned such as a standard guitar, which could lead to some confusion. I meant that it had the same distance between notes (and I didn't watch the vid first when I wrote that so I hadn't realized it was tuned higher). Anyway, I'll stop rambling now (I have a tendency to do that). Good luck on your venture to learn the guitalele and mahalo!

Leslie Barry You shouldn't really, the strings will be really, really loose and hard to play, because of such a low tension, as for this, i don't recommend doing that.

@@kanerowe there are Aquila 153C strings made specifically for this purpose. they also have 145C "high e" strings , meant to be tuned an octave higher than the guitar (that is, even higher than standard guitalele)
