Tarrentino has this unique ability to express himself in such a jagged, fragmented and frantic way while portraying his ideas and somehow making you still want to watch and not feel unfomfortable. It's almost a personification of how his films are. He'll be remembered as one of the best of this century and for good reason.

The Depp story he told, knowing some studios methods, they would’ve a) forced a rewrite to make his character more prominent unless it could be convinced he wasn’t as huge as he would become (maybe) or b) over promoted his involvement to where people would think “that’s all he’s in, the beginning and the end?!”

Depp wasn't a big star in the early 90s he was a supporting actor and couldn't sell a movie on his star power. The studio wouldn't demand rewrites for his part at that point in time, he was basically a nobody. He didn't get big till fear and loathing and then blow.

He opened the viper room in 1993. And dated Kate koss in 93 and was in every magazine. Fear and loathing wasn't even a huge smash hit. It defly didn't make him a mega star. Depp jus continued to get bigger and bigger as the decade rolled on. Depp was as big as keanu reeves and christian slater was in 93-94 who were both mega stars for being young actors...Depp jus played in different roles and less box office smashes as they did then by choice. Todays Depp.. and Tarantino being super particular on his set behaviour on not sleeping while there (it's a lot of waiting), no phones etc. and Depp's is kinda doing what he wants, it might work but it would be a gamble on which condition Johnny shows up. Depp also wants a lot of control over his characters. Not even stomping on Depp but it is how it is, two colliding worlds where Depp would have to budge and even he knows it but question is can he if he would be on bender.

The part was originally written for Laurence Fishburne but Fishburnes agents convinced him to turn the role down because they didn't want him in a "supporting role". Jackson had auditioned for a part of Reservoir Dogs but didn't get it but Tarantino kept him in mind for a later part. Jackson had read the Pulp Fiction script and really wanted to play Jules. When Fishburne declined the part was tentatively offered to Jackson but he still had to blow them away with audition because someone else had read for the part and had impressed Tarantino and Bender (a producer).

I’m sure Steve McQueen had to deal with the studio of hiring A list actors for that film. This is a LIE, I just saw a video of Tarantino talking about casting Jules. The guy who played Morpheus was offered the role first and turned it down.

Does anyone else think Johnny depp would have knocked it out of the park as Vincent Vega?

nah. too pretty. and he probably would have played it too aloof.

I love Johnny Depp but Travolta was perfect. He was a bit rough, out of shape, gauche, clumsy but cool. I can't visualise anyone else.

@@ziggypop8106 i cant imagine depp nailing any of the dialogue with sam jackson about eating pigs and the bullets. depp just isnt personable enough. the way you described travoltas duality in the role is perfect. he's ugly and handsome. suave and tough guy.

He’s always like this in every interview I’ve ever seen him in. Kind of an odd dude, but I think that’s why he’s so good at what he does.

He makes many people uneasy I think. But thats part of his persona. He doesnt seem like he is trying to make people calm. People accept his "odd" mannerisms because of the high quality movies he makes or because his interviews get views
