Tarrentino has this unique ability to express himself in such a jagged, fragmented and frantic way while portraying his ideas and somehow making you still want to watch and not feel unfomfortable. It's almost a personification of how his films are. He'll be remembered as one of the best of this century and for good reason.

I have to fundamentally disagree with you sir. Tarantino speaks in a most succinct and complete way. Fills in all the blanks and conveys all of the information in the most comprehensive way. The Depp story he told, knowing some studios methods, they would’ve a) forced a rewrite to make his character more prominent unless it could be convinced he wasn’t as huge as he would become (maybe) or b) over promoted his involvement to where people would think “that’s all he’s in, the beginning and the end?!”

Depp wasn't a big star in the early 90s he was a supporting actor and couldn't sell a movie on his star power. The studio wouldn't demand rewrites for his part at that point in time, he was basically a nobody. He didn't get big till fear and loathing and then blow.

He opened the viper room in 1993. And dated Kate koss in 93 and was in every magazine. Fear and loathing wasn't even a huge smash hit. It defly didn't make him a mega star. Depp jus continued to get bigger and bigger as the decade rolled on. Depp was as big as keanu reeves and christian slater was in 93-94 who were both mega stars for being young actors...Depp jus played in different roles and less box office smashes as they did then by choice. As he continued most of his carrier on purpose choosing his parts carefully....the Pirates movies took him from big star to mega star if anything did. In 2003...

It would change the Jules-Vincent dynamic so much. Travolta had this jaded but sturdy demeanour. Depp can be jaded but he always has a glint in his eye (huge difference #1). Depp has doesn’t really have a sturdy, heavy presence in either physique or tone (#2) Not saying that it couldn’t work. Just that it’d be a whole different world.

Todays Depp.. and Tarantino being super particular on his set behaviour on not sleeping while there (it's a lot of waiting), no phones etc. and Depp's is kinda doing what he wants, it might work but it would be a gamble on which condition Johnny shows up. Depp also wants a lot of control over his characters. Not even stomping on Depp but it is how it is, two colliding worlds where Depp would have to budge and even he knows it but question is can he if he would be on bender.

The part was originally written for Laurence Fishburne but Fishburnes agents convinced him to turn the role down because they didn't want him in a "supporting role". Jackson had auditioned for a part of Reservoir Dogs but didn't get it but Tarantino kept him in mind for a later part. Jackson had read the Pulp Fiction script and really wanted to play Jules. When Fishburne declined the part was tentatively offered to Jackson but he still had to blow them away with audition because someone else had read for the part and had impressed Tarantino and Bender (a producer).

I think true romance was his best written script...I was always surprised he never casted Christian slater or Patricia arquette in any of his other movies even in a small part ...given how much he enjoyed the movie and it's one of his best written scripts. he said how amazing they both did in it....true romance 2 would be bad ass with the original cast. It couldn't be to difficult to start where they left off in the movie and add a story on to it....bringing back slater, arquette, Kilmer, Pitt, rapport, oldman all could be done.

This reminds me of the marketing they did in Europe for “12 years a slave”. Brad Pitts name and face was on the poster despite the fact the film is about a black man captured and put into slavery. I’m sure Steve McQueen had to deal with the studio of hiring A list actors for that film. Like QT said in the story about that executive: it’s not gonna add a dime to the box office but it’ll make me feel better.

Quentin on Charlie Rose interview (2013) he said he wanted to work with Johnny and he's a huge fan of him . And same with Johnny , early on has said in one interview (1993) that he wanted to work with quentin . One in Gilbert grape (screenslam) interview and other in video "Johnny depp talks about ed wood"
