This is a super uneducated comment. He consistently throughout his career took roles that were outside of that gangster role he is typically known for. He played Frankenstein’s monster three years before Jackie Brown for example. “Rare” is not the correct word to use.

The idea was that he has done so much prison time that it did something to him. It made him complacent. Like Tarantino said he was like a punch drunk boxer that took so many beatings that he just isn't the same anymore...... Him doing all that time he lost that street edge. Those street smarts to a point.

JB is actually my favorite Tarantino film and it's criminally underrated. Even the soundtrack is on point. 1) I'm thankful Robert Forrester got to shine later in his career before he died. 2) Pam Grier was 48 when she filmed this and looked 35. Incredible beauty. 3) I'm glad DeNiro took a risk and played such an out of the box character. 4) I think Ordel Robbie is one of the best character performances SLJ ever gave. 5) Keaton is underrated as Ray Nicolette and it's awesome he reprised the role in Out of Sight.

I never ‘got’ Jackie Brown when I saw it in theaters 25 years ago (probably from unrealistic expectations of wanting another ‘Pulp Fiction’ type film), but it’s now near the top of my favorite QT films. Criminally underrated. The moment Jackie is stopped at the airport, she sets all of the elaborate chess pieces into motion to get out of her situation, and she pulls it all off with no room for error…it’s quite masterfully written.

A similar story from Terry Gilliam's 'Brazil'. De Niro saw the script and wanted to play the part of Jack, the main character's best friend. Gilliam said no, Michael Palin was going to play that. Tarantino told a story awhile back where he was talking to Scorsese about De Niro years before Jackie Brown. And Scorsese mentioned that if you ever need to describe a character to Bob, talk about the characters shoes, De Niro loves to know about a potential characters shoes. So years later when Tarantino pitched De Niro to play Lewis, the first thing he said was "Lewis is just getting out of prison, and he's been in prison so long that when he's released and gets his clothes back, one of his shoes is folded back onto itself because it's been in storage with boxes on top of it in some warehouse for so long.." And De Niro was hooked, and took the part.

Listening to Quentin is almost as good as watching his movies. It's no wonder, as his movies are so much a part of him. When he retires from features, it would be great to see him explore series work, where he could play in a medium that's more novelistic. As a writer who creates worlds, this form of storytelling would fit perfectly with his strengths. He could weave worlds together tangentially in a way not possible with self contained features. He certainly has nothing left to prove, so jumping into that playground would allow him unconstrained creativity without the limitations of studio features as well as the need to conform to traditional box office expectations.

I hope both of you are right but I fear he will just retire to live his ideal life without making movies. And in that version of his world I don't see him aspiring to make TV. Obviously he would be great at it, but it almost seems like John Elway joining the Canadian Football League in the year 2000. Not gonna happen. When he says a movie is going to be his final film some day, he means the final thing he will film. Take me to the bank on that one.

I think the time someone spent photoshopping/airbrushing Tom's face for that thumbnail took longer to do than the actual length of the clip.

I always wondering what Tarantino think about The Sopranos and James Gandolfini?

Jackie Brown was so true to the Elmore Leonard style. Not many adaptations are. Justified works very well. The original Pronto, with Peter Falk, and James LeGros is dated, but it is truly adapted from the book of the same name, it is not about Raylan Givens, but Harry Arno. Touch is such a very well acted film, with very sparse dialogue, just the way Elmore Leonard writes. Even Stick, with Burt Reynolds, with a standout performance by Charles Durning, was true to the vision of the original story. All these interpretations are a good watch. I love anything by Elmore Leonard. City Primeval should be great.

3:41, him stopping himself from saying "alright" is pretty self-aware, almost wish he wouldn't though. If it's to appear more likeable that's fine, if it's from all the impressions then damn.

Jackie Brown is a damn good movie but it was originally a book entitled Rum Punch, written by Elmore Leonard. A damn good book. We are all lucky Tarantino wrote a script that didn't deviate from the book at all.

From my understanding, the part of Louis was written for Sylvester Stallone. Deniro owned the part, but I would have loved to see Sly in a Tarantino film. Maybe his next and supposedly last film...
