I was in a country band at the time Friends in Low Places was a current hit. We played two weeks at a club in Wyoming that was a 5 hour gig, 45 minutes on and 15 off for 5 sets. It’s was required that we started and ended each set with Friends in Low places meaning we had to perform that song 10 times a night. I was totally suicidal and to this day hearing the song makes me want to vomit.

There use to be an old interview on KZbin of Garth admitting he never wanted to do country music. He really wanted to be a rock star he never wanted to do country music. But somewhere down the line someone convinced him to be a country singer. It was the most honest interview he's ever done. He admitted a lot of things in that interview about his career that in my opinion would expose him as a phony. It a shame they took it down because it was a very good honest interview but potentially a career ender.
