I love how realistic this movie is and just how deeply sad it is in the most human way. The only thing I was really missing was to see Casey's character just be put in a place where he finally lets out all the guilt he's been feeling and just cries it all out after all the things he's been holding in all those years. I really wish that could have happened it would have gave me closure as a viewer. I still feel sad that he didn't get that...

@ghostlight13 жыл бұрын
That would have been the Hollywood ending. Had he said at the end of the movie "Oh, I was sad but my now nephew has given me reason to live!", that would have been a John Hughes movie. The ending was perfect. Nothing much was resolved, and there was no closure because there is no closure in life. We simply cannot let go of previous trauma; it cannot be switched off. The movie is about broken people destroyed by unimaginable tragedy and carrying it with them forever. Sometimes there is no fixing that stuff. But the fact that his nephew did want to continue his relationship with his uncle, and, more importantly, that Lee was open to the possibility was really the only way the movie could have ended.Anything else would have been disingenuous.

The ending wasn't what I would call happy but certainly not sad. Lee loved his nephew but knew he couldn't take care of him bc he wasn't well. He put through a herculean effort to get his nephew settled in the best way. I think being around his nephew & taking care of him for his future gave Lee some peace. Everything that's broken can't always be fixed.

@yevgeniyaleshchenko84911 ай бұрын
Just because the person sounds melancholic doesn't necessarily mean he/she lived through that. Also, clinical depression is permanent, it can be managed, alleviated but not cured (much like diabetes or any other chronic serious illness), so I guess you've meant an episode/experience of severe depression but not clinical (because it's not a finite experience, you can't just be through it, it will be always with you, lurking and resurfacing). How do I know? I live with that shit in the country where genocide is ongoing and noone cares about people like me.

It's funny because Casey acted as himself basically, look at him, he is just stoic. Supposedly it's "easier" for a naturally stoic actor to do a lifeless role. On everything else Casey is very limited, but on this "type-casting" situation he did a great job.

@@senthilvelan544 Fellow actors usually tends to tap themselves on the back, praise in a inner circle means nothing. Didn't watched Jesse James yet, but I did watched gone baby gone... And Casey was just stoic as always. He and his brother are basically identical, they don't have any kind of emotional range. When they try the more "lively" role, it feels forced and out of place. For a naturally depressed individual to play a depressive role, obviously the performance will fell "realistic".
@sarahschuler9132 Жыл бұрын
I assume actors have role preferences: either roles where they can be someone UNLIKE themselves or roles they can utilize as their own outlet. Casey is GREAT at deep, emotional characters -- I think because he understands it and/or relates to the mindset/temperment, etc. I would like to see him play a sad character that gets a happy ending though... He and his characters deserve fulfillment.

Most people say that it isn't ''typically hollywood happy'' (aka he's still alone and will be bereaved/living with guilt forever) but not a sad one either as he opened up to his nephiew and achieved some semblance of peace. I would say, considering the tough subject movie, the ending was as optimistic as it could get without becoming unrealistic or melodramatic.
