Tales of the City is so much a part of my life and history. As a young, naive, blonde from the midwest who moved to SF in 1976, this wonderful tale, first a newspaper column, was the daily "fix" we all needed as we stood around the water cooler wondering who these beautiful characters might be. Thank you Mr. Maupin for documenting how so many people lived, loved, died and thrived in SF circa 70-80. I was changed for the better!

Loved the books, and the past shows, this return to the story was wonderful, I laughed, and cried, beautiful story’s, very real, honest story telling, I will rewatch this series many times, it’s been like returning home, seeing close friends again. Loved this series, like I did of the previous three films

Love, love, LOVE this show! Our communities, as they. COULD be, SHOULD be, and WOULD be, given half a chance. S. Francisco is a stupendous backdrop to this story, that could only really happen there!

The old show felt intimate and with great depth between the characters. The new one felt like social media: dozens of people but none felt like real friends

I knew it would end up being bad. All the BS they need to add to not upset the new letters.

Interesting difference regarding the twins. In the book, they were Dede's children, but in this revival they are not--yet DeDe is back. Anyone know the 411 on why the change?

Liked the revival, would have loved as much as the books and original series if they aged everyone appropriately.This was my only issue with the revival Mary Ann and Mouse would have been 66

Thank goodness you said this. I've been thinking this ever since I saw the first 1976 chyron. I wondered why nobody else had mentioned it.
@howardkerr81744 жыл бұрын
@@Infantadecastile Well, if they did that, Mrs Madrigal wouldn't have been alive, she would have been at least in her late 90s. If it makes you feel any better, the original miniseries took several "liberties" when it came to dialogue and events. When Mr Maupin wrote the columns/books there was no intention to make Anna Madrigal an anagram of " a man and a girl ", it was purely coincidental and fans/readers of the books pointed it out to him.

When the original series first aired on PBS I recorded it on videotape, then one night I accidentally taped over about an hour of it. Years later I saw it on DVD and bought it....then lost the DVDs (seems to be some kind of curse there). I actually lived near San Jose a few years (2-3?) after the time of the original's setting, so I know many of the locations used in the books but didn't have the courage to visit them. Example? The End-Up was a bit too "popular" for my tastes, but I did frequent that area on weekends. By the early-mid 80s it was quite different. I watch the original series every now and then on KZbin, it makes me nostalgic, and a bit depressed, like looking at a photo album and knowing many of the people you see are either dead or have substantially changed. I really wish Marcus d'Amica had stuck with the series instead of leaving after the original, I think he was the perfect Mouse. My other favorite actor was Donald Moffat, who dies in the original series, a great Edgar Halcyon.

I know the new episodes werent available at the time of the interview, but it is clear that the interviewer didnt watch the original show. That was a shame.

Does the host realize the 1993 show took place in 1976 setting and NOT 1993?! 1976 was so different from even 1993 let alone 2019. Did she even watch it or do her research?!

Nope but it doesn't help that the timeline is all messed up now.

Is there two or three series? Are they all called the same? Can you watch it all on Netflix?
@Yoishking1015 жыл бұрын
Angie Vazirian there’s 4 seasons technically. ‘Tales of the City’, then ‘More tales of the City,’ followed by Further Tales of the City, and now the new Netflix show ‘Tales of the City’. You can watch the new season and the first one on Netflix and the 2nd/3rd on KZbin if you just type it in.

I'm almost afraid to watch the most recent episodes, especially since I'm not a fan of Ellen Page and I'm afraid that it will be much too PC, as opposed to the first six episodes. Just the mention of "safe spaces " irritates me.
