I’m encouraged to see a woman doing this project because I will most likely be doing most of the work. You did a great job making the video and creating a lovely screened in porch!❤❤❤
@monkeytrainer81352 жыл бұрын
I have tips, now that I am 3/4 done screening in my porch. #1. When you cut your screen, give yourself an extra 2” more than the dimensions of the opening, on every side. #2. If you have a Kreg tool, it really helps with the wood framing. #3. I read the reviews of the Screen Tight spline roller tool, so I bought a wooden roller tool with a metal wheel, and I am glad I did. #4. Do horizontal top, then horizontal bottom, then the sides. Always start at the middle and work your way out to one side, then do the other side. Same goes with the vertical sides. When you’re done the top, pull it kind of tight, straight down as you work your way out. Pull the screen fabric diagonally down from the middle toward the sides as you roll the spline in. Go slowly, and pull the spline straight, stretching as you roll. That helps keep the wheel from slipping and cutting the screen. #5. There are two tracks for screen and spline, use the one distal to the actual place you are putting in the screen and spline to kind of tack it up in place for you, so you don’t have it flopping around. It makes it so you don’t need a helper. It’s really helpful if you’re on a ladder, maybe standing at a weird angle. Before I figured out the spline trick, I used a heavy duty staple gun to temporarily tack the screen in place, but you have to keep stopping and pulling the staples out with the staple-pulling tool. The spline trick is a million times easier. Starting at the top horizontal track ABOVE the track you’re really going to use, jam a little scrap piece of spline in the middle, then with more scraps here in there, work your way out toward the edges. If you already used that track for the screen above it, no problem, just use the vertical tracks to hold it in place with some scraps of spline.

Hello nice video! Can this be done from the inside of the porch/deck? Ours is 30 feet up! Thank you
@burtoncrowell43713 жыл бұрын
Very nice video One Thing Once I had those boards painted and everything I would have used a another board to tap them into place sure then hit them direct with a hammer also would have talked up where they met with caulking and then maybe put one more quick coat of paint over once they were installed to hide your screws also hopefully they don't have any raccoons on the outside or cats on the inside because that vinyl screen is just about as fragile as you could possibly get I would have used the black coated galvanized metal screen it's a little more difficult to work with but it is a lot stronger
@janicejackson27662 жыл бұрын
Great advice. I have four cats. Someone else told me reinforced screen would be better. However, when getting a quote today the contractor told me regular wire since the galvanized is harder to handle. Now what do I do? Also, I am using a chair rail, but I didn't hear her specify how many inches she used when meassuring for it. I want to make sure it isn't too high or too low. If someone can tell me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks~
