I found it interesting that one of the aprons from Kansas was blue and white gingham. If I’m remembering my Wizard of Oz correctly, Dorothy, who came from Kansas, wears a blue and white gingham pinafore. Apparently the blue, if not the gingham itself, is what prompts Glinda to ask Dorothy, “Are you a good witch or a bad witch?” Very appropriate gift to receive from Kansas.

I sent those aprons in the video to Atlanta, and I live in Topeka, Kansas (state capital). The gingham apron was a nod to Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. The customized one is just something fun for her to enjoy.

I worked for 10 years at a Chick-Fil-A fast service restaurant as a cashier about an hour south of our nation's capital. Chick-Fil-A sauce is our most popular sauce of several sauces! My personal favorite is Honey Mustard! I know how challenging American English can be for anyone not from here; because even us natives can mess up on pronunciation! That being said, it is believed that the name of the city is a blend of French and the Algonquin Indian languages. For this reason, the s is slient! So it is pronounced "De Moine!" I am so looking forward to your upcoming visit here! Have a great day!

I have a live tarantula and it's actually quite docile. It's more like a pet mouse than a spider. There are some old world species that are quite defensive with strong venom but most new world (Americas) species are harmless. They have huge fangs but would rather kick urticating hairs and run away than bite. I used to have a major fear of spiders until I got my first tarantula. Now I'm fascinated instead of scared. People only fear them because they don't know much about them.

I am totally arachnophobic too! I had a chilling experience when I lived in Hawaii. The loft above the bathroom and walk-in closet in my bedroom had a massive nest of cane spiders that I didn’t know about. My family had just moved into this newly built house, but no screens had been put in the windows until the day before we moved in. The owner and builder has been working late into the night for weeks before we arrived to have the house ready for us. Unfortunately, Hawaii has lots of bugs! Cockroaches, ants, centipedes, you name it, they got it! These bugs all had free reign of the house to come and go as they please until the screens were put in the windows. The cane spiders, seeing this ample food supply, created a huge nest in the house and would eat the insects. When we moved in however, we did not know about the spiders. We just kept finding bugs crawling out of the woodwork everywhere! So we had the house tented and fumigated. Unfortunately the chemicals they used only killed insects, not arachnids. The difference being insects have six legs and arachnids have eight legs. So we killed off the food supply for hundreds of spiders in the loft in my bedroom. Almost immediately they started coming out and looking for food. In the course of a single weekend I killed or captured eight adult cane spiders, some the size of that Tarantula, just without hair on the bodies, in and around my bedroom. The final straw was waking up Monday morning and realizing my king size bed had webbing going across it, literally hundreds of strands of spider silk cocooning me in my bed. They were planning on having me for dinner. That day, however, the exterminator came out and found the nest and killed hundreds of adult spiders, and thousands of babies. He filled up a full size trash bag full dead spiders. I won’t go into the details of all my encounters that weekend, but let’s say the movie “Arachnophobia” had nothing on what I experienced. But think of this Denzel, crabs are actually arachnids, spiders of the ocean. So every time you eat crab legs, you are eating a massive spider!

I'm with Denzie. While I'm not as afraid of spiders as I used to be, even as a 51 year old 6'4" 230lb man, they still creep me out considerably. I used to live in a cabin on my family's property in Pennsylvania, it was built in the 1780's. I'd wake up to wolf spiders running off my bed when I woke up in the morning, they'd be hunkered down near me for my body heat.

That sounds terrifying. We have wolf spiders down here in NC and it is awful when you’re in the pool and you see one of those things walking over the water towards you. Also when you try to get rid of one… they’ll have babies on their back and then there is 200 tiny spiders now. Makes me shudder.

Probably a little heavier on Cyclones just because ISU is so much closer. The farther east you travel in the state, it certainly gets more Hawkeye. Living here my whole life, I've always thought it was kinda weird that Des Moines isn't overwhelmingly ISU. But then it's the capital so a lot of people who went to any of Iowa's schools often end up here anyway for jobs. I'm the chief of marketing for a trade association that has members all over Iowa, and I'm always surprised that whether there are 40 or 400 members at an event, the Cyclone/Hawkeye balance is, surprisingly, almost always pretty close. The things that look like fangs on the tarantula are called "palps" and are harmless, a type of sensory organ used for (among other things) detecting smells. Tarantulas are not especially dangerous to humans, although you should not look really closely at a live one without some kind of eye protection (glasses or safety goggles) due to the urticating hairs. David Letterman (a late-night TV host) once had a tarantula owner on his "stupid pet tricks" segment who put the tarantula in his mouth and blew bubbles while it was in there. In general, the largest spiders are usually not the dangerous ones. (See for instance the huntsman spider, from Australia, which is only dangerous because people take impact damage due to tripping over things trying to get away from them.)

I had to smile when the Des Moines box was opened and they thought Puppy Chow was a snack for the dog. "Puppy chow, also known as monkey munch, muddy buddies, muddy munch, reindeer chow, or doggy bag, is the name for a homemade candy made in the United States, primarily in midwestern states." Tarantulas are big, but their venom is fairly mild, about like a bee sting. Getting bit by one isn't very likely to be fatal, just unpleasant. But they are fairly docile and only bite if they feel threatened. I've know several people who weren't at all afraid to handle live ones. It's smaller spiders who scare the heck out of me. Black Widows and Brown Recluse spiders are about size of your thumbnail but their venom is much worse than a Tarantula's.

I live about an hour from there, but do have family there. Now I can think about something American that you really need to try instead of rushing to get that sticker on the map. People here wait all year round for Girl Scout cookie season.. and we stock up like mad! The abundance of STUFF and the multitude of options for all of EVERYTHING in America will probably be your biggest jaw dropper you encounter when you arrive for your visit! The geography and cultures are a wonder.. but STUFF(everything) is everywhere. I live in a very small rural town with 2 Traffic lights.. but convenience is still everywhere compared to most other countries globally. Looking forward to when you visit Kansas.. One of your videos, the best and worst of each state I think, said that Kansas is the ugliest scenery. That's not really true unless all you see is from a car window driving across country on I-70.. don't do that.. There are valleys, rolling hills, and Amazing State Parks. Our KC Zoo is one of the best as well!!! Keep on keepin' on. Love it

Chick-fil-a sauce was imagined by an employee and it was such a hit it's now their signature sauce and is a combination of BBQ sauce, honey mustard and ranch.

I know how much comments help your channel so here is my comment, tarantulas are not deadly, in fact there are very few that are even harmful to humans. I love your channel and enjoy your videos.

This was an awesome episode. I have friends in Iowa who own a farm. If I found one of those spiders 😱 in my home I would probably run screaming and burn the whole house down. LOL.

My parents who are ceramicists from California went to Peru for 4 months, my dad built a High-fire Kiln for a group of artists and at the same time my mom showed her art skills. He actually smuggled in the burners and other items needed to make it work. In Peru they normally use low fire clay like terracotta, high fire is like your fine dinner plate. It was the best time of their life, the people, the food, the culture. My dad died just five months ago, till the end he still talked about his time in Peru, it was special to him. He went to Machu Picchu and Sacsayhuamán and he said it changed him just by seeing it all.

I can say as a consumer of 3 of those 4 sauces that the 3 I’ve had are amazing, those being the mayochup, Chick-fil-A sauce, and the honeyracha.
