Only Angelina could cover her own song and deliver another stunning version, she is remarkable. Director/producer Sam King said in the BTS video of this shoot and the more pop/soul/R &B shoot that it is #1 in Europe. Unfortunate that American audiences are more brainwashed by the MSM ear assault of over produced, mixed, auto tuned stuff, while fabulous artists like AJ shine in other countries. "Melancholy and intrigue", I luv it! Not only do we listen to each word and every note, but we feel each one of them, as well. We are so drawn into her world when she sings for us we can hear the same song literally hundreds of times AND FEEL THE SAME WAY "EVERY TIME" !!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, I understand exactly what you mean, the original is more 'radio friendly'. But, overall, this jazzy piano version can become the number 1 song IN THE WORLD! From what I hear a lot of behind the scenes business action is taking place in regards to measuring how Angelina's career should turn. I have every confidence that Angelina and her team (family members and business associates) will be making the right decisions. I agree, Angelina molds and sculpts every phrase, word , and syllable. I think that is one of the reasons she is so captivating. There is so much detail in her singing. Her riffs, runs, and vibrato are to die for. I agree with you that maybe the more poppy version is the one that will capture more listeners and is DEFINITELY radio ready! This one is something else! I feel a kind of melancholy even regret that the person didn't listen to her warnings and things ended badly as she predicted. In fact, my interpretation of the lyrics is that she needed more commitment, more backbone, so to speak, so when she didn't get it, she knew it was time "to let the flowers die". What a song, OMG! Angelina's mastery of her voice is incredible! The amount of emotion she can deliver with each word, each note is truly extraordinary. I think that now we are listening to Angelina the young woman, no longer the gifted child/teenager 😍 When I saw the WishUSA bus performance I thought that version was a mix of the two others. Hi Juliet, Yes, I actually enjoy every version she has sung of this song, Bad Valentine, and you're right, the first version we heard from Hotel Cafe was incredible, and she had a sass to it like we couldn't believe, but each version afterwards was amazing in it's own way, including the Toby Gad version at the Glendale concert. This version, especially when it came out without the music video, started out in a different key and is slower, and it's as if she's talking to you, all sad and melancholy like, and she adds all these different jazz parts, even the scatting, about a third way or halfway through the song. Of course, there's the WishBUS version, where it's kind of a mix between several different versions, but I actually really do enjoy each piece that Angelina Jordan has to sing to us because we get to see, with her being the co-writer and singer, how she's feeling from the beginning until now. It really is a moving experience. ❤️

Angelina is such a genius, we have heard her reimagine songs like Bohemian Rhapsody, Good Bye Yellow Brick Road, and Suspicious Minds, but here she is reimagining her own song! I like the Hotel Cafe version best. It has the same orchestration as this one but the interpretation, or expression (the statement she presents) is similar to the pop version: sassy and careless, maybe even a bit angry, while this one feels more regretful, "why did it end this way, how did *I* fail to make him understand", very introspective. Musically the Hotel Cafe version is somewhere in between the two official releases. It's not jazz, nor pop, but blues .... and I love it.

Great analysis Juliette, Angelina is known for taking classic, iconic songs & upgrading them in her own style, but this is the 1st time she's done it to one of her own songs. I love the original version, but the jazzy piano version is my absolute favorite version of the song & also my favorite video from her, ever. It's probably because I've always loved jazz, but the emotion & sultry performance is off the charts. The only other vocal performance that compares, IMO, is her 16 yo performance of My Funny Valentine filmed in the antique store, but I don't like that video because we don't see her singing. I want to see her facial expressions, her hand movements & how she manipulates her mouth to make those glorious sounds. Man, we really see that here.

If I want to listen to Bad Valentine as a song I'll go with the original version. I amntruly inlove with the beat... But if I want to hear Angelina ZINGING.. I'll go with the jazzy version.

She's not used to moving her mouth with the new teeth. It' looks like she not quite comfortable yet. Sorry, i still don't like them..!!!
