What's your relationship to your state?
@edennis8578
@edennis8578 6 ай бұрын
The state is run by people. It's one of those career categories that attracts psychopathic personality types who enjoy having control over others. At least in Norway, it's easier to personally know your politicians, whereas in the US, they're usually rich people who live in gated communities, and at the national level, they are hundreds or thousands of miles away. Currently, we have a federal government that doesn't allow dissent from political opponents. Need I say more?

Living in another Nordic country I too trust the state although less and less. I hate that politics has become a job more than working towards improving our country.

Ugh - I live in the USA. On the federal level, our politics have devolved into the completely ludicrous. I don't want to vote for any of the available candidates, anymore. Not much better on the state level, imo. Local and regional are a mixed bag.

In Pennsylvania the state (commonwealth) runs "the state stores," which are the alcohol shops. The state even has its own wine brand.

Always so happy to see another video from you guys! I hope to move to Norway one day (from the southeastern US), and your videos always make me want to move even more. Do you think you might ever do another video about the Norwegian language? I'm trying to learn Bokmål and the grammar rules are very interesting (and make much more sense than English). It would also be really cool to see the average Norwegian's opinion of black metal. Tusen takk, og jeg håper vi får se en ny video fra dere snart!

I thought Norwegian passenger service, such as Vy, is now all privatized now. I love NRK's concert videos. (And that 4 season Bergen to Bodø train journey set back on the anniversary year of the Bergen line). The ending - LOL! At least, while you are in the store, you can buy what you want. I learned that one must have an alcohol card stamped in Svalbard, with a monthly limit. No ability to overindulge there!

I don't think state restricted consumption of alcohol would go well in the US. Of course we have hours of operation. I did a DNA test and got the results last week, and I'm 5% Norwegian so maybe I will like it - but the 95% of me that is Scottish/English/Irish might hate it :D PS. I live in Alberta Canada, not of Norwegiann heritage, but 3 of my grandparents were from Sweden, have been there once to meet my father's first cousins. In Alberta our liquor laws were changed so that you can usually buy liquor until about 0200h. Not so in all other provinces, in the USA you can purchase beer and some mixed drinks even in 24h conveniance stores. Love your programs, always look forward to new ones.

In Canada, liquor is also under the control of the government. Each province has its own liquor boards and liquor laws. For instance, in Québec, you can legally buy and consume alcohol at 18, whereas in Ontario, you have to be 19 years old. We can buy beer and wine at grocery stores and in corner stores, but the wine is not the best quality. For liquor and good wines, we have to go to the SAQ (Société des alcools du Québec). They are opened 7 days a week, same hours as regular stores. 😊

The liquor monopoly is kinda the same in Sweden and Finland as well. In Finland we are the most liberated from our alcohol monopoly, as our regular retail shops have the longest hours for alcoholic beverage sales, and can sell the highest alc.vol. drinks, but STILL we have to get our wines and spirits from the specialized alcohol monopoly stores (Alko). But we have great opposition to this practise, and I'm quite certain that pretty soon at least regular wines will be a grocery store commodity. The Alko stores are already situated under the same roof with markets and in malls, but the problem is that they are too few and far between.

The luxurious airport express is one thing I didn't experience. I was in Oslo for a tradeshow and I had free public transportation included in my exhibitor pass. Just the regular trains, though. Still I'm very fond of it, cause I got a couple of the vouchers for the express train you can get at the Oslo station. You are supposed to board with them and pay at your destination, if you can't use your card at the ticketing machines at departure. They look just like tickets, price and all, so... I put them in my expense note. 😉 The money I got out of that little trick paid for a nice, warm jumper I took as a souvenir. A jumper I've found at an excellent price, in a shop that was suggested in one of the videos from this channel! I love you guys! ❤

In Sweden it's the same with "Systembolaget", the alcohol stores run by the Swedish government. In Sweden you can buy folköl (peoples beer) in the grocery stores but it's below 3% or 4% alcohol content. Whenever I take a trip on one of the Baltic ferries in Sweden it's entertaining to see how much alcohol people by from the duty free shops on the boats. I've literally seen cars driving off the ferries with cases of beer and booze stacked to the roof. The ferry between Helsingborg Sweden and Helsingør Denmark is 20 minutes long, I think its only purpose is for Swedes and Danes to buy cheap alcohol.

I'm fine with taxation of tobacco and alcool, I would put on the label even how much tax money from them was used the previous year to cure diseases caused by them. I just hope, since I'm planning to come to Norway to live, that the state doesn't go full commie like the WEF likes: no meat, no private cars, no privacy, no property of any kind... How many chances are that it will happen in the near or distant future? Greetings from Italy.

@@YOURWAY2NORWAY Yep, I know, the problem is that in the dystopian future those bright minds are planning for us "you will own nothing and be happy", to quote them verbatim, so someone - them - will own everything. Capitalism for them, socialism/communism for us. But not everything is going according to their plans, and in the previous mass craziness monarchies managed it better then so called democracies. So I've really high hopes for Norway and my life there. Sorry for such a serious comment, I know you are more for a light hearted entertainment.

In the Netherlands the state has all her monopolies sold to the free market, so everything got worse and more expensive but hey, it is progress! 😢 I think a lot of people don't trust the state anymore because they have really made awful decisions. For instance we have earthquakes in the north of our country due to gas drilling. They have built a skyskraper high administration confusion (think Kafka!) but they can't compensate the people with ruined houses. Also they have send a lot of people into debt and despair because they had to pay back the compensation they had gotten for childcare, because they were wrongly accused of fraude. But it were the daycare centers who had committed the fraude. Also in this case the state doesn't succeed in reparing their mistakes.
