“Disperser is not a filter, it’s just delaying the low frequencies so that they come in a little later than the high frequencies” Audio engineering student and sound design nerd here, disperser is actually a serial stack of special filters called all-pass filters, which have a flat frequency response but really mess with phases via phase shifting (which creates a slight delay), creating that squelch effect (for lack of better terms). You can actually replicate this effect using only stock plugins in pretty much any DAW by stacking a bunch of blank EQs in series.
@jacobjaramillo3192Ай бұрын
So having a bunch of clean EQs stacked on a sound actually affects its timbre? 😮
@LuLeBeАй бұрын
@@jacobjaramillo3192well it really depends. If they're not linear phase, they affect phase. Which will affect timbre if non-linear effects (distortion, compression etc but not EQs or IRs) come afterwards. And the EQs only affect phase when active. So depending on the plugin nothing happens with no bands turned on or without any knobs twisted or whatever. Basically EQ works by mixing the original signal with a version that went through an all-pass filter, and of course that filter needs to be turned on. An empty pro-q3 will do nothing.
@88bsides2 ай бұрын
That was the simplest and best description of disperser I’ve heard. And the stock ableton recreation was concise and informative. Still quality tutorials and not just jokes. ❤

Suffering on a 15.6 inch laptop? I'm researching the Linkin Park Numb sound. I tried some different techniques, but you gave me an idea I haven't tried, yet. Morphing two sounds with vocoder. It was the early 2000's so I guess they didn't have granular and all kind of new synthesis stuff. So how is it that after 20 years nobody found the answer.
