Any other video I might have skipped because of the wind noise. But we are watching Coach D and listening intently to his every word! Great video Coach! Thanks for breaking this down. Just keep it simple, I like that idea!

Yay, thanks for sticking through it! As I was editing, I thought about scrapping it but a ton of gold came out so I kept it. Appreciate the support and glad it added value!! 🏈🔥

I just want to take a minute to appreciate that view, love those mountains in the back. Also great advice on these defensive concepts.

Ha thx so much. Pikes Peak back there. We’re super fortunate. And I appreciate the kind words about the defense concepts. There are so many options out there it’s good to get direction on what is best. Hope it helped.

One of the easiest adjustments that has worked for us: two teams in our league this past season very obviously had a plan of feed the ball to their best player. We made the quick adjustment to run our zone but match one of our two safeties on that player man to man. If they could beat us using somebody else, so be it, but once we took that away, they were lost and uncomfortable. We wound up shutting both teams down rather easily

Was this 5 on 5 and did you also blitz? What age is your team? We've had more success with that in 6 verses 6.
@leeschuetz
@leeschuetz Жыл бұрын
@@reddhole3422 it was 6v6, 2nd grade. Typically didn't blitz unless we knew it was a probable running situation.

Yeah, I’ve seen that work well. As long as it doesn’t open up a massive hole in the zone for a secondary “best” player to take advantage, I love it. Smart adjustment and thx for sharing! That’s that pre-planning, plan B or C I’m talking about walking into the game with. And I’m sure you practiced it so all other players would know how to adjust and shift as necessary. Good stuff! 🏈🔥

Thanks for your tips Coach 😉. My team is 4-2 on the season with one game left. Just lost our last game 12-2, defense wasn’t the problem, our offense couldn’t score. We played good by holding them to just two touchdowns, but when you only get a safety, offense has gotta put points on the board

Hopefully they weren’t watching my videos on how to shut you down! 😉 You’re a rockstar coach and will get that team rockin’ - attack their weak zones or players and keep the progressions and play calling simple. Focus on positive yardage vs trying to go too big and you’ll make that comeback! Great season! 🏈🔥

Any bundles that'll work for 11v11 flag?

I would go with the 7v7, then use the route tree I provide for the others. Then you can see how each play is built out and the different progressions and schemes. Any of these will work: flagfootballwithcoachd.com/products/unstoppable-7-on-7-flag-football-plays

Nice video coach. Do you prefer this 2-1-2 setup over that “husker” 1-3-1 you mentioned in a different video? It’s interesting you seem to toy around with the blitzer too. In my league the general consensus is to have the faster player be the blitzer and do it every play. Most kids in the 8-10u level can’t handle the pressures blitz provides on a consistent basis. I’ve found when you don’t blitz, the qb gets to just relax and pick the defense apart. It’s tough for kids to cover that long too if there is no blitz.

I agree with the blitzer and as long as you’re not leaving gaps in your coverage then go for it. And I like to adjust based on the offenses we are playing and age group. I recently put out my defense playbook where I break down why and when I use which defense. I get a ton of questions about it, so finally just put it down on paper. Ha. @coachd how do your defensive schemes account for that one kid on the field that's just a little better than everyone else and keeps burning you over and over all day?
@CoachD
@CoachD 11 ай бұрын
Those are adjustments that may be necessary after the first series. Making sure to put my best players across the field so I’m not exposed to any fully weak sides. Then I might have to take my best player and have them shadow that person to take them out of their offensive strategy. And if I can make a strong defensive play against that player it might get in their head (in a fun competitive way) and stop them from dominating. Just a few thoughts…what’s your strategy?

@@CoachD we've struggled. My kids aren't strong on zone coverage so we double cover this kid and make someone else beat us.but it leaves us open Any suggestions are welcome

@@Actionnate1I just started coaching. This will be my 3rd game and we are going against what seems like a good QB/wr. I'm thinking about going 1-3-1 with my best kid at safety shadowing the best wr. We usually run a 2-3 and will have that in the back pocket if necessary. Definitely not going man.

Coach D... I just started coaching 8 and 9 year olds and five versus five, what do you recommend for defense to start with.... where the league doesn't allow me to have more than one practice per week

might sound weird but you got anything for 8v8?
@CoachD
@CoachD Жыл бұрын
Def not weird. Get that question a lot. You can grab the 7v7 versions then add in the additional player either on D in the gaps depending on the type of offense you’re facing or on offense with my route tree that’s included.
