Hey coach! Great drill love it. Any tips on focusing kids that love to talk too much in the Huddle have a few that always have a question or want to offer their opinion. Recommendations on how to command the huddle in a positive but Direct way?
@CoachD
@CoachD 3 күн бұрын
2 things. First, in future seasons make that part of your expectations that in the huddle, we need everyone to focus and that you’ll be calling the play and deciding who’s getting the ball, etc. (it’s all part of a game plan and strategy for the offense), and that for me has made a huge difference. For right now, second, I would take them aside, maybe during a break or at the beginning or end of practice, and have a quick one on one with them. Usually, you can have a leader conversation where you get down at their level and you let them know that you appreciate their their input, but that it can also be distracting and you need them to focus on giving their best effort out on the field with what you’re asking them to do. This usually resonates really well with them. Overall, you want them to know that you have a strategy and a game plan and everything that you’re doing is going toward that game plan so you’ve got it covered. You need them to focus on executing and giving their best effort out on the field. Let me know how it goes out there, coach.

Hello Coach, I want to print plays for wrist inserts for 7v7. Can I do that with only purchasing your powerpoint slides product? I don’t have any coaching packages and I don’t want to create any plays. I just want to print out pre-created plays for 7v7 flag adult league I’m playing on. I am one of the players as well on my team.

Coach - with the PPTs you can manually add them to the wristband template I sent, but I’d recommend the Complete Coach Package that comes with the wristband inserts already created so you can simply print, trim, and insert. This is what i teach my players. Keep everything inside. Never let the ball carrier to the sideline. If the ball carrier is running down the sideline only one flag can be pulled and now theres a defender who has to come all the way from across the field to help out. Force everything inside to get help from teammates to pull both flags.

You wouldn’t want to do the opposite and push them out of bounds?
@CoachD
@CoachD 20 күн бұрын
I’m a fan of that as well. The whole goal is to block the sideline with someone who isn’t the best at pulling flags. Good call - practice and teach both. If they are just focused on forcing them out and a player makes a quick move they can get on their outside and win the sideline so I’m just coaching to shut down that sideline. Thx for your question.
@mikhalfoster2106
@mikhalfoster2106 20 күн бұрын
In that type of situation you wouldn’t want to funnel back to the middle. Utilize the sideline as a defender and push the RB to the sideline and guide the RB out of bounds while grabbing the flag
@CoachD
@CoachD 20 күн бұрын
Thx for your comment coach. I would teach both. If they turn and try to force them out the runner could easily turn them around and win the sideline and be gone. With this they are locking down or shutting down that sideline so nothing is getting on the outside. But run it and teach both. Good stuff, coach. Thx.
@richardterryjr8691
@richardterryjr8691 19 күн бұрын
Keep everything inside. If ball carrier runs to the right sideline, left defender has to run across field to help out plus only one flag can be pulled. Keeping ball carrier inside means both flags can be pulled.

Thats a genuis drill. Especially for time. When you have 10-12 kids with an hour practice time before a game, you lose time throwing, catching, getting the ball etc. All you need is everyone gets a ball on a line and do the progression.

Another great video Coach 😎 I got a question for you since I would love your advice: my league has gone from 5 on 5 to 7 on 7 this season. How do I transition my defense from a 2-1-2? I still wanna keep the basics of a 2-1-2, but what would you recommend? I’ve been debating a 2-2-3, and a 1-2-4. Or even possibly a 1-1-5 (the 1-1-5 would mostly be for plays where they have to throw deep upon running out of downs) What would you suggest?
@CoachD
@CoachD 22 күн бұрын
I’d say depending on what you’re seeing from the offense you can either go 3-2-2 if they are run heavy and I want to contain the sidelines while not leaving the middle open (with a rusher) or 2-2-3 if they are deep threats with multiple players going over the top. This would give me the ability to adjust to a 2-3-2 (with a MLB) rushing if they start doing a mid range attack. That’s my recommendation but be ready for quick adjustments after the first series. I’ve been seeing HS flag coaches going with 2-5, but that’s when you don’t have a deep threat. So if they are all new to flag that might work, otherwise I’d go with my previous recommendations based on rusher rules, etc.

Thanks for all these videos, Coach D! I am a first year coach for a 5th/6th 6v6 team. Our league is only allowed to practice one day per week, so we only had three practices before our first game (coming up tomorrow!) and we had a lot of new players. Here's what I managed to teach them: How to line up in ONE offensive formation. How to line up in ONE defensive formation. How to hand off the ball. How to throw a few short passes (nothing over 7 yards.) Ideas that worked for us: Coach D's "walk the zone" drills. Coach D's advice on how the QB should hand off the ball. The wristbands. We only have four plays on our wrist band, all out of that one formation, and all highly simplified. I just wanted to share our experience. The kids are having a great time and we're all looking forward to our first game. It's going to be chaos out there, haha.

Coach D has a turf field for his yard! Awesome! Great tips on those plays, especially for the QB. Do you instruct your QB to hit the flood and single receiver sides of the defense for zone and man, respectively?
@CoachD
@CoachD 28 күн бұрын
Ha! Yep - so I can keep cranking out this content. 🤣 I give the QB the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd option for where to go with the ball so they can adjust to the defense (and matchups for Man). We adjust based on the defense, weak zones, easy matchups, etc. But yes, I’m working w my QB to understand these gaps/opportunities and then take advantage of them.

Love trips - we use the circle run/pass a ton. Great for playing games with the defense and finding mismatches. If they overload to the trips, we can run to the open side with circle run. If they leave someone on the open side, we can run circle pass or even throw a screen to the trips. Great stuff, Coach!

Hey Coach D, love your videos! In our league you cannot pull the flag until the receiver has the ball or it is a 15 yard penalty from the spot of the foul and an automatic first down. If your defensive player was able to get there as the ball was coming in, wouldn’t you tell him to pick it? Thanks
@CoachD
@CoachD 22 күн бұрын
I did make another video right after this about picking it. Yet many times when they go for the ball and miss the player is gone. I’ve found that this method works well if they whiff on the ball they have their hand on the handle of the flag and can immediately pull it instead of losing the WR. Honestly I teach both.

He’d chew the players out in front of the parents and I didn’t agree with his coaching philosophy overall. Saw the looks on the kids faces all year and most aren’t playing anymore.
