Wish I had this video last week for our Championship Game! Anything from 5 yards and beyond, I still use a rusher (and QBs can run when blitzed in our league). Seven seconds is just too long for a decent QB. Love the idea about keeping most kids in front of the goal line. We tried to tell the kids that, but I think this more structured way is better to communicate it. Man to man is so difficult when the kids don't have numbers. I'd switch to that, but its always chaos as you describe in the video.

Right. It can be chaotic even if you practice it over and over. I like this approach because it gives a solid line of defense from any short dumps, slants, etc. Make sure the player in the back is a beast and make adjustments if they continue to go over the top. Always love your comments! Thx Coach!

We are currently in an age 7-9 league, and yeah man to man is pretty hard for kids these age to do effectively.

Greetings coach! Thx for watching. It’s going to be great day with them. Let me know how it goes. Love that age group - my son is now 13. I appreciate the comment. Glad you’re finding value. Get some out there!! 🏈🔥

I pull my safety and keep a rusher for 10u since I have found the qb will find a seam if I give them that much time (usually back corner where we go) and are more apt to chuck and pray.
@CoachD Жыл бұрын
Nice - I’ll give it a shot. Thx for sharing. Yep, the good ol’ chuck and pray - sometimes the best plays come out of that! Good stuff, coach! 🏈🔥

Ha - this is Colorado Springs and that’s Pikes Peak. Yeah we are very fortunate over here. Where are you located?

OK was trying to follow this. OK so you do play zone in the red zone? We are 6 v 6 and I plan on running the zone husker base defense. We are in a Age 7-9 division, and man can be a 50/50 thing.

Sorry for taking so long - have you tried this yet? What’s the result?
@emmettmortgage Жыл бұрын
@@CoachD no worries man. After much research and having it work in 5v5 at this age its basically run zone as much as you can. Man coverage is just too unpredictable at this age and with kids at different levels.

If you are against a 2 pt play at the 10.... Do you line up the same? Ie keep your up folks on the 2 and safeties at the end zone?
@CoachD Жыл бұрын
I move them up 3 yards off the ball and keep the safeties just outside of the end zone. I’ve tried keeping them on the 2 yard line and safeties at the end zone and they had too much space between our defenders and we were then too late on the ball (had too many gaps) and they scored. So I scoot up if they are on the 10-12 yard line. Let me know what you’re seeing work for your team.

Another great video Question. When u have a rusher on defense, do u always have them rushing on the short plays or when in the no run zone. I tried utilizing the rusher as an additional defender and not rush on close plays last year but never seen any other team doing it. Do u think it's a bad idea to not rush some plays or should we always rush them??
@CoachD Жыл бұрын
I like to do situational rushing like this. Sometimes the rush works and disrupts the QB so much that even short plays are forced so I keep rushing. If they quickly adjust and start throwing short from where the rusher is positioned and taking advantage of that gap then I’ll fake the rush, run 2 or 3 steps then back up and make a play on the ball. I like to do it play by play so they aren’t sure when it’s coming. I like it!

@CoachD great. I was hoping I wasn't crazy. But the looks I get when I only rush half the game is amazing. They think we r nuts. But there is very few plays that can beat us deep

Coach, my team is playing in a 5x5 championship in Brazil, and we find very difficult in Man to Man in the 5 yards, cause our players are shorter and the matchups are unfavorable. Do you think that Zone 4-1 will help us in this situation? Watching yours videos from Brazil 🇧🇷

Yes I totally think it will work for you. Make sure to adjust as needed based on the items I mentioned in the video. You should be good to go. Get some out there! 🏈🔥

Love your stuff and owe a lot of what I've accomplished to what I've learned from you but most leagues do not require flags to be over the goal line. Per NFL FLAG rules... "The ball is spotted where the ball is when the flag is pulled." Section X. Running, pg. 11. In other words, the ball CAN be reached over goal line.
@CoachD3 ай бұрын
Not sure how this slipped by me and I didnt respond. I’d love it if ALL refs were on the same page w the rules. Sometimes that’s not the case. Had many calls go the other way and the ball was not the spot. Coaches, bring a copy of the rules so you can quickly spot specific calls like this in the moment. Thx for the rule check, coach. I’ll take it any day of the week. Also, coaches, I’d confirm PRE-game on certain rules like this to ensure both coaches and refs AND players are all on the same page.
