I wouldn’t find it as a mistake, I’ve seen people trying to justify the shade, however if a makeup brand creates foundation I’m 100% sure that they would know people have undertones. This just shows how little some companies care about their customers and choose to discriminate rather than address the problem.

The biggest problem with this whole scandal isnt that they made a foundation that was just black and expected black people to be fine with but it was actually the amount of people who went out of their way to mock, shame, and criticize black people for calling out the company as if we should be expected to be grateful of what is literally a mockery of our biology.

it's actually sad. i live in a country where although rare, dark skinned people exist. I'm more of a fair medium but somehow my shades are the middle shades when buying makeup 💀 now i know i said im a fair medium but people here aren't PALE, so there aren't many shades for light skin either, mainly olive or tan like my own. the thing is, there's shades for fair skin tones which are more rare than dark skin tones by companies from our country???? as for companies from abroad, there's a darker shade range but the undertones are totally wrong, they're all too warm 😭

But the way they marketed this product is so wrong, it seems like they wanted to make it seem as a real skin tone when it’s just black, the concept of black foundation is good if it’s promoted as a colorful foundation and not a skin tone same for a pure white foundation

as an artist the explanation of it just being a mixing color is not good either. not only are their foundations very expensive, but the entire concept of color theory gets thrown out the window. when it comes to mixing skin tones, you usually dont want to just use black because that neutralizes the undertones, making it look muddier. some people might have a skin tone that requires mixing black, but it’s generally recommended to use the complimentary color to darken something, or a darker version of the color you’re working with. for example, if im making a warm toned piece, i would use something like red to shade skin with an orange undertone. if i were making something more cool-toned, i would use purple to shade skin with a yellow undertone. this argument so poorly researched

Not really because if you watch the rest of this video video and other creators videos on this foundation because it’s essentially just a black pigment and there’s no undertones to it so that means there’s no red yellow or blue when it’s mixed with a white or even a lighter foundation it turns gray

I can't remember who, but an actual oil painter on TikTok who actually understands color theory said that it is not possible to mix it with other shades because the black desaturates the other colors, creating a gray cast. It's possible to do this successfully, but it's a lot of work and you would have to drastically alter the other shade you plan on mixing it with. You would need other actual undertone pigments (for example, red) it create a deeper base, then you'd have to add white to the black (you need to use very little black so it doesn't overpower the other colors). Even doing this, you still run the risk of the black turning everything gray, because it doesn't mix with other colors in the same way as any other color does. It's just too much time and money, so you'd be better off just buying another shade (and brand) altogether.
