@Youthman4 ай бұрын
@@dhowting someone mentioned that the T7 78 should be able to assign the surround back channel to the height 2. They are titanium domes but also you should have gone with the PWM2's all round and the 3 for just the centre. The PWM3 is the most detailed of them and can be harsh, they are meant to be used as a centre. The PWM2's are much smoother on the top end. Also on the NAD you can add their 2 ch power amp for the fronts and get more power to the rest of the channels for that headroom. Try the c298. Hope this helps.

Love this colab. Remember seen you in one of Matt's houses he had a car outside with a soft plasic enclosure, several years ago. 😂 I have done several similar on the wall setups with cheaper speakers, of course. Interestingly, there will be flection(s) of the front channels from the kitchen wall/cabinets with a significant delay. It gets all nicely mixed with the side speakers and feels like there are phantom rear speakers, especially listening music or sports (arena or stadium feeling) The easiest way to notice is to sit sideways, one ear toward TV and play calibration sound klicks. Try it the next time you are there.

The strongest drywall anchors are GeeFix. They're wild. You could mount a TV with those easily. I mean two of those. And you need two just so the mount won't rotate. They can hold hundreds of *kilos*, not lbs. The first thing to fail would be the entire wall.

Matt will buy one of every product on the market (like soundbars), test and compare them to find out what is the best product for him and for his audience. He then he reaches out to the brand to become a dealer for that specific model and sells it to his audience. He and I are both full time content creators, sharing our lives and our experiences with our audiences. I noticed judging from the KZbin audio the room is very echoey and has very high reverb times which will affect the systems performance in very significant ways. All I heard was I want to replace this audio component for that audio component but no thought went into the room acoustics. I dont mean he should plaster ugly black absorption panels all over the room but there are options nowadays that can look very aesthetically pleasing- ie acoustic products that resemble artwork for instance. It just seems like a shame to dump a fairly expensive (or pretty damn expensive for a lot of people) system into a room that has little to no treatment that sounds like an echo chamber.
@Youthman4 ай бұрын
Matt’s living room is very typical of most consumers living rooms. Mine included. Ideally, we would love to have acoustic treatment in our living room. my agreement with Jessica is I can do anything I want in the Dedicated theater room, she however, has the living room. And I’m perfectly OK with that. Matt and I both have dedicated Theater Room. We can do whatever we want and treat that room. but when you have the means to have a nice audio system, even in a room, that’s not ideal, they’re still valuing that, and you can still find incredible enjoyment out of it. The key is to work within the limitations that you have and not get discouraged by what you don’t have. Matt likes the sound of the system. It’s not that he’s chasing better equipment. He’s going with larger subwoofers to get more physical impact. He’s changing the front soundstage to black for aesthetics, not performance. And he’s upgrading to the Marantz Cinema 30 because the NAD does not have four independent subwoofer outputs, and it does not power 4 Dolby Atmos speakers. Hope that provides some clarity.
@KimmoJaskari4 ай бұрын

@@Youthman OK, if I may - I watched painfully because that room I would die for could be a sterling example of a home theater that is disguised as a family room right in the middle of the home. The idea is why do we have to be banished to a basement mancave in total darkness and isolated from the family. Would it be possible to have a superb invisible theater in that nice room that rises at the push of a button and disappears when the lights come back up? He has this giant white wall (could be painted bright white in the screen area) with NO FRAME or masks on which you can project huge images of any size or aspect ratio with the press of a button on a motorized lens with memory positions and blanking for all picture possibilities from 16:9 to scope to IMAX and Cinerama. I have mine that way in Lakeland. I have all of my electronics in an adjacent room operated with infrared relay. Really impressive video - great discussion. Obviously not a budget system especially when you have a BDI cabinet, a NAD, and the largest G3/G4. I see 4 subs but then I wonder about the 40-80hz positional bass which the subs can't really do and for that kind of money, I think the LCR should be handling part of that (the 50-80hz) range. Would it be better to sacrifice 2 subs and get the better positional bass? That'd be an interesting test. Certainly music would also benefit if the towers can sing on their own and it does sound like he really likes music given the Contour. Curious to watch part 2 and the grand reveal.

It appears that in the menu, we need to tell it we have Height 2, but instead of the speakers being connected to Height 2 terminals on the rear of the NAD, we have to connect to surround back terminals on the NAD. That’s stupid. It should always be connected to output like most other AVR’s but it seems that’s how they have it setup. That would explain why we did not get any sound from the rear Atmos speakers, even though we had it configured for Height 2 speakers. This was my first time using NAD so I assumed since they had height 2 pre-outs, that meant it was not a assignable, and you had to use an amplifier for height 2 speakers. Matt will still likely purchase the Marantz Cinema 30 for the extra power capability and 4 independent subwoofers

@@Youthman well he did say he was living below his means so put the 98 downstairs and pick up a new 110 or 115 incher for upstairs ;).

This guy is insane, and not in a good way. Spending that much money on a living room setup with no treatment and in a white room is a complete waste of money. Build a shed in the back yard and make a dedicated get away room with hush frame and treatment where you can watch movies, play pool, etc.
@Youthman4 ай бұрын
I guess I’m insane too for not having any treatment in my living room. That’s why we both have dedicated Home Theaters. No need for a shed.

@@Youthmaneven better. I just don’t think there’s a point in spending 30 grand on a theater setup in a room where 75% of the sound is going to be lost anyway. But whatever no skin off my nose
@Youthman4 ай бұрын
75% loss? I’m curious where you came up with that figure.

@@Youthmanyou’re hearing mostly reflections anyway and since the room is so big the reverb in the room is longer which is covering the sound even more. There’s noticeable reverb just speaking in there around 55-60db, let alone when you’re playing 85db dialogue in a movie. All that’s gonna do is veil the sound in reverb so you’ll hear no fidelity and no difference from $5000 speakers and $500 speakers. Again I really don’t care about what the guy does, obviously it’s his money. The guy obviously has some sort of problem seeing that he spent $3500 on a cabinet that looks the exact same as one for $150 on wayfair.

@@ChadAV69 Matt said he will mainly use the system for sports. I think it’s a bit overkill for that but will do very nicely. His dedicated Theater Room that we are going to build upstairs will be fully treated and will be used for movie watching.

It’s all good. Matt and I live in the South so our dialect is much more laid back. My wife used to say Frigerator instead of Refrigerator.

Not sure about this style. I would say stick to shorter, polished videos. 1.5 hours of amateurs installing a system with poor technique and then deciding the design doesn't work? Not sure how that is adding value for anyone. I've loved your stuff for a long time, hopefully this is not what Obsessed Home Theater is going to be.
@Youthman4 ай бұрын
Seven years ago, my channel started out which just reviews. I later added Home Theater Tours, tutorials, trade show coverage, podcasts and factory tours. The new content is additive, not a replacement for what I’m currently doing. Feel free to watch just the shorter, polished content. No format will be for everyone.

From KZbin Studio "Views are up 25%! More regular viewers are choosing to watch this video, and they’re watching longer than usual, helping to increase its reach on KZbin recommendations" with 97.9% like to dislike ratio. It seems a lot of people are connecting with the new style.

I agree adam. They’re so obsessed with home theater that they didn’t bother testing a design choice before spending 8k on speakers. They’re so obsessed that they installed a center speaker with lobing issues (for 8k). They’re so obsessed that they only have 2 subwoofers that are co located. Definitely obsessed.
