I grew up on Macs, since my dad always used them for work. I still look back on Mac OS 9 with a lot of nostalgia. As others have said, KZbin didn’t actually exist back then, this is a “what if scenario”. Instead, there were websites where people uploaded QuickTime MPG and RealPlayer videos. I would download clips of anime and cartoons. Sometimes fan-made music videos. Also AVI files, but those never played on a Mac back then. There was a glitchy version of Windows Media Player for the Mac, but it didn’t work too well. MP3’s were more common on the web back then, so you didn’t have to necessarily use pirating software for music. Although there was a Mac-only program called Carracho, which was kind of the Limewire of its day. Internet radio stations were around, too. There was a site called Live 365, and I remember it had a Japanese Pokémon station called KCHU radio. Browsing the Internet, I used Netscape Navigator, since the Mac version of Internet Explorer was very terrible and slow. My main big thing was playing the hell out of the SNES9x emulator, and it actually ran perfectly well without any lag. That was absolutely HUGE for me, and turned me onto role-playing games like “Chrono Trigger” I still deeply cherish to this day. I also played a Bungie game my dad bought called “Oni”, before “Halo” came out. There was also “Beach Head 2000”, which was incredibly violent. On a lighter note, there was the educational “Thinkin’ Things” series, “Reader Rabbit”, “Grandpa Mouse’s Magic Tales”, and the Disney CD-ROM storybooks and activity centers. ESPECIALLY “Toy Story”. I also watched Flash web toons like “Homestar Runner”, and Amy Winfrey’s “Muffin Films”. Probably “ Making Fiends” as well, but I think I was using OS X at that point. But those were all huge influences for me. iMovie was definitely incredible, and I messed around a lot with that. I wish Apple had kept the original iMovie timeline design. I remember hating it when they changed that in the late 2000’s. And since my dad used Photoshop as a professional, that was the program I used pretty much as Paint. I also remember burning CD’s, making copies of CD’s, and creating disc labels using the printer and CD Stomper. And recording stupid stuff using the Apple microphone in actual lossless audio. Mac OS 9 even had a program that let you watch actual VHS tapes on your Mac, no lie. No clue how my dad hooked it up, but he did. We didn’t use it a lot, since we just used the two TV’s while dad was working. But nevertheless, this was very impressive tech for the 90’s. People who try to make it seem like Macs were less capable back then compared to PC’s clearly just didn’t grow up with them. Yes, it was incredibly frustrating when there were games I wanted that were PC-only. “Worms 2” is the only one that comes to mind. But come on, so much fun could still be had with Macs. The SNES emulator alone kept me entertained for literally months at a time. There’s some other stuff I could mention, but this comment’s more than long enough.
